The Upper Clutha Senior Citizens Club runs exercise classes for over 60’s each week at the St John rooms on Link Way.

The classes are age appropriate and alternate between Tai Chi and seated Pilates. Last year the club purchased wrist & ankle weights, therabands and other exercise equipment with funds granted to the club by the Olive & Graham West Charitable Trust. The classes focus on functional fitness which enables participants to go about daily life with as much ease as possible. For many older people, simple functions like bending over to tie shoelaces or pick something up off the floor can be difficult.

The classes are not just exercise, to many older people, they are an opportunity to socialise and make friends, this is considered just as important as the exercise. The classes are held on Tuesdays at 1.30 pm at St John, gold coin donation for members and $4 for non-members.

The Senior Citizens Club holds social meetings and afternoon tea every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month at the Wanaka Districts Club on Plantation Rd at 2pm. For information or enquiries please contact Vivienne 443-5120 or check our website www.ucscclub.weebly.com. All Welcome.

Over the past few weeks I have attended a rising number of bad driving complaints within the Wanaka area. Many of you I'm sure have witnessed poor and dangerous driving on our roads. Please keep reporting these incidents to police and by doing so you may help reduce the number of crashes. There are no main groups of people responsible for such offences. Please remember your speed, stopping distance and drive to the conditions.

While on the topic of road policing we are targeting intersection offences and seat belts over the next few weeks. I recently gave a ticket out to someone whom allowed their child to be unrestrained in the back seat, but the TV on the front seat was buckled up. I like to watch some telly now and then, but let's hope that we can all get our priorities right!

A couple of weeks ago there was a reported incident at the local supermarket that drew the attention of many people. When dealing with a variety of incidents reported to police, be mindful that some do feel offended or consider themselves a victim and expect police to deal with incidents accordingly. I would hope that all of you can understand that one person's joke might be funny to you but it could offend someone else.
