Finally the first snow arrived at FUMA on February 16th, with an accumulation

of 6-8 inches. It was all too tempting for the cadets who were seen making a quick

snowman (or snowball) during morning break, so we organized a bit of snow fun

after class. The cadets participated in a “build a snowman” company competition

that ended in a snowball fight, with some choosing to be buried in the snow and

others just laying in the snow and making snow angels. Just SNOW much fun!

Each Saturday the Commandant’s Department conducts a Saturday

Morning Inspection (SMI). The inspecting teams vary between TACS,

Cadet Staff and or Company Commanders. On February 7th, the

Admiral’s SMI was conducted. During this inspection, a random

platoon was selected for Rear Admiral Burhoe to inspect. The Corps

was very meticulous as they prepared for Rear Admiral’s Burhoe’s

inspection, and the Admiral’s comments were favorable.

On February 7th, the Debate Team headed to Cosby High School for the last “qualifying” tournament (for STATE FINALS) of

the season. When the final results were announced, Ozz Ben-David was awarded the first place trophy in Student Congress,

Michael Head second place in Student Congress, Miles Seaburg fourth place in Extemporaneous Speaking and Ryan McEnroe

fifth place in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Three additional cadets were named State Qualifiers: Chris Pianalto in Student Congress, Adam Zhao and Jonathan Muniz in

Extemporaneous Speaking. Due to winning first and second place in Student Congress, FUMA was awarded the FIRST

PLACE SWEEPSTAKES trophy in debate. Congratulations to ALL!

As Activities Coordinator, I had the easy job of securing

space in Estes Athletic Center, renting the equipment,

and providing adult supervision—Battalion Commander

Cadet Seth Jackson did everything else. Jackson recruited

friends to set up the playing field and then totally

reorganized the barriers for the next day. He organized

and ran various games every 10 minutes for the two-day

weekend event. The Corps, both upper and middle

school, had a fun-filled weekend of Laser Tag!
