HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL
PAGEANT TITLE: AMBASSADORS OF MATH & SCIENCE
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: JSLS GYMNASIUM (10:00 am)
General Mechanics
1. The Ambassadors of Math & Science Pageant is open to all private and public schools.
2. Each participating school shall be represented by a pair of bonafide Grade 11/12
Senior High School students (one male and one female) of academic year 2017-2018.
3. Only the first five schools to register can join the pageant.
4. Upon confirmation, the school shall send a creative photo (soft copy) with white
background of the participants wearing their statement shirts (see Costume below),
5R in size.
5. Contestants will compete for the following categories/ special awards:
• Best in Costume (Statement Shirts)
• Best in SciMath Advocacy
• Best in Talent
• Most Popular

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-HIGH SCHOOL GENERALS OF KNOWLEDGE
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (10:00 am)
General Mechanics:
1. The Generals of Knowledge is open to all private and public schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO TEAMS consisting of four (4)
students (minimum of two (2) Junior High School Students and maximum of two (2)
Senior High School Students). Strictly no alternates allowed.
3. The questions shall cover high school Mathematics and Sciences.
4. Only the first 20 teams to register can join the competition.
5. A registration fee of Php 200.00 per team shall be collected upon registration.
6. The top three groups with the highest points after the final round shall be declared as
winners. They will each receive a plaque and a cash prize.
7. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
8. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
I. Elimination Round (Group Work)
A. Easy Round
• There will be 20 questions in this round. Participants will be given 30 seconds to
answer each question.
B. Average Round
• There will be 15 questions in this round. Participants will be given 60 seconds to
answer each question.
C. Difficult Round
• There will be 10 questions in this round. This may comprise of either practical work
or objective items or both.
• Participants will be given 2 minutes to answer each question.
• The top three groups with the highest points after the final round shall be
declared as winners. They will each receive a plaque and a cash prize.
• An official judge assigned to each group shall decide on the correctness and/or
appropriateness of the group’s performance or their final answer to the objective
items.
• In case of ties, a sudden death will apply - questions will be given until one team
makes a point over the other.

The point system below will be strictly followed.
Other Mechanics:
1. All questions shall be read TWICE. The team must write their answer after the quiz
master says, “Timer starts now.” Failure to comply with the rules will automatically
disqualify the team for that question only and receive points for wrong answer.
2. All answers shall be written on the official answer sheets provided.
3. MISSPELLED, UNMARKED and LATE answers shall NOT be accepted. Answers with
INCORRECT SIGNIFICANT FIGURES/UNITS shall NOT be considered correct.
4. All answers should be simplified.
5. Calculators are allowed but will only be used for Science-related questions.
6. Clarifications from the participants will be acknowledged after the correct answer is
given by the game master.
7. Judges’ decision shall be deemed final, binding and irrevocable.
8. Coaching from the audience is strictly prohibited. A team caught receiving coached
answers will be disqualified and will be blacklisted.
Note: The UP Rural High School reserves the right to revise the mechanics of all the contests. Any

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-HIGH SCHOOL INNOVASCIENCE QUIZ CONTEST
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (1:00 pm)
General Mechanics:
1. The Inter-High School InnovaScience Quiz Contest is open to all private and public schools.
This contest is an individual contest.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO (2) STUDENTS from Grade 7 to Grade
12. Only the first 30 participants to register will be allowed to join the contest.
3. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per contestant shall be collected upon registration.
4. Questions may be taken from any field of inquiry related to all general sciences (Biology,
Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences and Environmental Science) technology and
innovations, and famous personalities.
5. The contest shall have three rounds namely: Easy, Average, and Difficult.
6. The top three students with the highest points after the final round shall be declared as
winners. They will each receive a medal and a cash prize.
7. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
8. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
I. ANYTHING GOES ROUND
• A total of twenty-five (25) questions will be given for this round.
• Point System

• If a correct answer is submitted before halftime, the score will be doubled. Halftime
corresponds to half the time allotted for answering the given questions, i.e. the
problem is to be answered within ten (10) seconds then the halftime is five (5)
seconds.
• The top 10 scorers at the end of this round will advance to the Final round.
• In case of a tie for the 10th spot, a “sudden-death round” will be given. In this round,
a set of clincher questions will be asked to all participants vying for the 10th spot.
Participants with incorrect answers will be automatically eliminated until only one
participant remains.
II. IDENTIFY THE UNKNOWN ROUND
• In this round, scores will be reset to zero (0).
• The goal of this round is to identify “unknowns”. The “unknowns” will cover any of
the following categories: Personality, Invention, Concept, Phenomena and
Substance.

• Five “clue questions” will be given for each unknown. The answers from these
questions will serve as hints that will lead to the identification of the “unknowns”.
• All participants will have equal chances of answering the clue questions. A
participant who successfully answers a clue question will gain five (5) points and a
chance to identify the “unknown”.
• If a participant gives a wrong answer to the clue question, three (3) points will be
deducted from their scores.
• If the “unknown” is not correctly identified, another clue question will be asked and
all the participants will have equal chances of answering again.
• In the event that all five (5) clue questions are exhausted and the “unknown” has
not been identified yet, the unknown will be revealed and a new set of clue
questions for another “unknown” will be asked.
• The participant/s who is/are able to identify the “unknown” will gain ten (10) points.
• In case of a tie at the end of this round, another set of clue questions and
“unknown” will be given until the tie is broken.
OTHER GUIDELINES
1. The quizmaster will read the questions twice.
2. Wrong spelling is considered a wrong answer. A full name would mean a person’s first and
last name. Last names would be accepted as correct answers ONLY if specified by the
quizmaster.
3. The top three students with the highest points after the final round shall be declared as
winners. They will each receive a plaque and a cash prize.
4. The panel of judges for this quiz contest will answer queries or dispute related to the contest
after the correct answer is given by the game master. The decision of the judges is FINAL and
IRREVOCABLE.
5. Any sign or form of coaching from the audience is a ground for the nullification of the
question.

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-HIGH SCHOOL MATHDOKU CHALLENGE
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (10:00 am)
General Mechanics:
1. The Inter-High School MathDoku Challenge is open to all public and private schools.
This is an individual contest.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST THREE (3) STUDENTS from Grade 7 to Grade
12.
3. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per contestant shall be collected upon registration.
4. The contest is divided into two rounds namely: the Elimination Round, and the Final
Round.
5. The winners will receive a medal and a cash prize.
6. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
7. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
I. ELIMINATION ROUND
• The contestants shall be given 3 puzzles to solve for 45 minutes.
• When the participant is done, he/she should pass the questionnaire to the assigned
proctor per table.
• Proctors will be standing by to check immediately the questionnaires.
• If there is a mistake, the proctors will give the papers back to the contestants for them
to recheck their answers. Note: Proctors are not allowed to point out the error/s.
• When the participant is done, the questionnaire shall be passed again to the proctor
and if there is still a mistake, the process repeats again.
• All participants who will be able to finish answering all the puzzles correctly within the
time limit will qualify for the final round.
II. FINAL ROUND
• The participants will now be given only ONE MathDoku puzzle to be answered and this
time, there will be a time limit of 60 minutes.
• The participants shall only pass their questionnaires ONCE so before submitting, the
participants should have reviewed and finalized their answers.
• The participant who first finished answering the puzzle correctly will be declared the
winner, second to finish will be the second place while the third to finish will be the third
place.
• If in the event nobody finished answering within the time limit, they will be given time
extension of another 15 minutes. If there is still no one who finished answering, the
participant who has answered the most number of boxes correctly will be declared the
winner.

General Mechanics:
1. The Inter-High School On The Spot Poster Making Contest is open to all public and
private schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO (2) TEAMS consisting of two (2)
students per team from Grade 7 to Grade 12.
3. Only the first twenty (20) teams to register will be accepted.
4. A ¼ illustration board will be provided to each team.
5. The participants are expected to bring their own drawing and coloring materials
(i.e. pencils and OIL PASTEL).
6. The theme of the poster will be announced at the start of the competition.
7. The first, second, and third placers will receive a medal and cash prize.
8. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
9. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per team shall be collected upon registration.
10. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
11. The posters will be judged based on the following criteria:

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-HIGH SCHOOL INFOGRAPHICS MAKING CONTEST
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (1:00 pm)
General Mechanics:
1. The Infographics Making Contest is open to all public and private schools.
2. Each school may be represented by AT MOST TWO (2) STUDENTS.
3. Each students is required to bring his/her own laptop and charger.
4. Using Adobe Photoshop, each student is required to create an infographics related
to the theme to be provided on the day of the contest.
5. Each students is required to design his/her own infographics using the available fonts
and effects on Adobe Photoshop.
6. Photos and images will be provided to the contestants.
7. Final image size: A4 size (21 x 29.7 cm)
8. No minimum or maximum use of images.
9. Image resolution should be 100 pixels per inch.
10. The student may add text or slogan needed for enhancement.
11. The student is free to use as many Photoshop tricks and techniques as he/she can.
12. Each student is given 2 hours to finish the project. No extension will be given.
13. The first, second, and third placers will receive a medal and cash prize.
14. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
15. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per student shall be collected upon registration.
16. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
17. The infographics will be judged based on the following criteria:

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE
DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (1:00 pm)
1. The Debate is open to all private and public schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST ONE TEAM ONLY consisting of three (3)
students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Strictly no alternates allowed.
3. Only the first four (4) teams to register can join the competition.
4. The participants must be in the designated venue 30 minutes before the said time for
the competition. This time will be allotted for the briefing of the participants
regarding the mechanics of the contest.
5. Each team must choose a team captain. The designated team captains shall
represent their respective team in draw lots, determining which side of the
proposition they shall represent, etc.
6. The teams shall be given time to discuss their presentation and argumentation.
7. The Asian’s Parliament Type of Debate will be used (5 minutes per speaker). There
will be a timer present in the designated venue. A orange flag will be raised for the
last minute of speech, interpolation, or rebuttal. A red flag will be raised when the
time allotted is finished. The speaker must stop speaking once the red flag is raised.
8. The Asian’s parliamentary style consists of two roles: the Government and the
Opposition. The composition of the teams and the roles of each are as follows:
A. Government Team
i. Prime Minister – frames the debate; provides the background for the debate; presents
constructive arguments
ii. Deputy Prime Minister – rebuts the leader of the opposition; rebuilds the case of the Prime
Minister; Presents new constructive arguments
iii. Government Whip – rebuts all argument of opposition; summarizes the debate; provides
new analysis and improve why Governing body should win
B. Opposing Team
i. Leader of the Opposition – rebuts the prime minister; presents the clash of the opposition;
presents constructive arguments
ii. Deputy Leader of the Opposition – rebuts the Deputy Prime Minister; rebuilds the case of
the Deputy Prime Minister; presents new constructive arguments
iii. Opposition Whip – rebuts all arguments of Government; summarizes the debate; provides
new analysis and prove why opposition should win

CONTESTS MECHANICS
ELEMENTARY LEVEL
CONTEST TITLE: INTER-ELEMENTARY SCI-SPELL
DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (9:00 am)
General Mechanics:
1. The Inter-Elementary Sci-Spell is open to all public and private elementary schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO STUDENTS from Grades 4 to 6.
3. The terms and names to be spelled in the contest cover the following areas: GENERAL
SCIENCE, BASIC BIOLOGY, INTRODUCTORY CHEMISTRY, ELEMENTARY PHYSICS, EARTH
SCIENCE, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, and GENERAL INFORMATION.
4. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per student shall be collected upon registration.
5. A cash prize will be awarded to the student garnering the highest score after the
elimination round. The first, second, and third placers after the final round will receive
a medal and a cash prize.
6. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
7. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
I. QUALIFYING ROUND
• The elimination round is in the form of a written exam. The representatives of each
school shall answer a 50-ITEM MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAM for one (1) hour.
• This will test the students’ proficiency in spelling various terminologies in Science.
• The top 15 students garnering the highest individual scores shall qualify for the
Elimination Round.
II. ELIMINATION ROUND
• The students shall spell 25 terms based on the categories or names of the scientist
specializing on fields as mentioned above.
• They will be given 20 seconds to spell each term or name.
• The game master will give the term and its definition. Significant accomplishments
and information about the scientist, and the name of the scientist will be given.
• The top 10 students garnering the highest scores will move to the Pre-Final Round.
III. PRE-FINAL ROUND
• The 10 remaining contestants will be randomly paired via draw lots for this round.
• Each pair will be given a term to spell, one pair at a time. The first contestant to
spell the word correctly qualifies for the final round.

IV. FINAL ROUND
• The 5 remaining contestants will compete against each other for the top three
places.
• The terms will be read twice by the quiz master. They will be given 15 seconds to
spell each term.
• Every CORRECT ANSWER is worth 5 points; every INCORRECT ANSWER is -2; and 0
for NO ANSWER.
• The top three highest pointers will be declared as winners.
• In case of ties, tie-breaker questions will be given until one contestant makes a
point over the other.

General Mechanics:

2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO (2) TEAMS consisting of three (3)

5. A cash prize will be awarded to the student garnering the highest score after the

Contest Proper:
I. Elimination Round
• The elimination round is an individual written exam composed of 50 MULTIPLE-
CHOICE MATH QUESTIONS good for one (1) hour.
• No calculators or any other devices are allowed. Students caught using such
devices will be automatically disqualified. Scratch papers will be provided by the
organizer.
• The average scores of the members of the team will determine the rank of the
whole team.
• The top 10 teams will proceed to the final round.
II. Final Round
A. Anything Goes Round
• There are 20 questions in this round. A question could range from elementary
math problems to manipulatives.
• Time allotment for each question will be given during the contest proper.
B. Chain Reaction Round
• The difficult round is composed of 5 items with three questions each, each
question related to the next question, and then to the next. Thus the name, chain
reaction.
• The contestants will be given 30 seconds, 45 seconds and 60 seconds to answer
the three questions respectively. No contestant will be allowed to go back to the
question after the allotted time has ended.

7. Judges’ decision shall be deemed final, binding and irrevocable.
8. Coaching from the audience shall be strictly prohibited. A team caught receiving
coached answers will be disqualified and will be blacklisted.

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-ELEMENTARY COMICS MAKING CONTEST
DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (9:30 am)
General Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all public and private elementary schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO (2) STUDENTS from Grades 4 to 6.
3. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per contestant shall be collected upon registration.
4. Only the first 30 students to register can join the contest.
5. The top three students will be awarded with a medal and a cash prize.
6. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
7. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
• Contestants are required to bring their own art materials. Only A3 sized paper will
be provided for each contestant. The time allotment to complete the comic strip
is one hour.
• The theme will be given at the start of the contest.
• The students must fill out a 2x4 comic strip. The format of the comic strip is shown
below:

Creativity 20%
Relation to the theme 40%
Originality 10%
Cleanliness 10%
Dialogues 20% (Sense - 10%, Impact to the Reader - 15%,
Humor - 5%)

CONTEST TITLE: INTER-ELEMENTARY BIG SUDOKU CHALLENGE
DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2017
TIME AND VENUE: (1:30 pm)
General Mechanics:
1. The Inter-Elementary Big Sudoku Challenge is open to all public and private elementary
schools.
2. Each participating school is limited to AT MOST TWO STUDENTS from Grade 4 to Grade 6.
3. A registration fee of Php 100.00 per contestant shall be collected upon registration.
4. Only the first 20 students to register can join the contest.
5. The contest is divided into two rounds namely: the Elimination Round, and the Final
Round.
6. Certificates of Participation shall be given to all participants.
7. The winners will be announced during the closing program.
Contest Proper:
I. ELIMINATION ROUND
• This is an individual game.
• Each student will be given three (3) 6 x 6 Sudoku puzzles to solve within 10 minutes.
• At the end of the given time limit, the ten (10) students who got the highest scores will
qualify for the final round.
II. FINAL ROUND
• The participants will be given ONE BIG SUDOKU puzzle to be answered within the time
limit of 20 minutes.
• The participants shall only pass their puzzle ONCE for checking so before submitting, the
participants should have reviewed and finalized their answers.
• The participant who first finished answering the puzzle correctly will be declared the
winner, second to finish will be the second place while the third to finish will be the third
place.
• If in the event that none of the participants finished answering within the time limit, they
will be given another 10 minutes to solve the puzzle. If there is still no one who finished
answering, the participant who has answered the most number of boxes correctly will
be declared the winner.
