QUESTION 1Tips in answering the question:

• What should you do:

• Read the instruction(s).• Understand the instruction.• Study the given picture.• Note every details in the picture.

• Read the given words.• Think of your sentences. (‘Wh’ questions will help)• Write about what you see

happening in the picture.• Write your sentences on a piece

of paper.• You can write 9 or 10 simple

sentences.

•Then, join the sentences using conjunctions.

•Check the sentence structure & grammar.

•Go through the sentences.•Write the sentences on the

question paper.

Reminder to students:• Only 5 sentences are needed.• Extra sentences are not given any

marks.• You may or may not use all the

given words.• You may use the given words in

any order you want.• Sentence structure, grammar &

relevancy(suitable sentences) are important.

Utmost importance

Construct sentences according to your capabilities:

• Good – compound & complex sentences

• Average – Simple & compound sentences

• Weak – Very simple & simple sentences

Question 2(a)

Always remember to:

• Read the instruction(s).• Study the given information

carefully.• Note all the details, even the

smallest print.

• Study the table & note the given clues.

• Complete the table based on the given clues & information.

• Handwriting is very important here.

-do not break up the words -upper case & lower case -formation of the alphabet -comma & full-stop

•10 marks – it’s a bonus!

Question 2(b)

Remember to:• Read the instruction(s)

carefully.• Take note of what is/are

needed.• Refer to the given information.• Decide on your choice.

• State your choice (must be one only).

• Think of your reasons to support your choice.

• Reasons stated must be based on the given information.

• Remember – for whom is the choice made?

• You may use linkers such as; besides, moreover, apart from that, in addition etc –more convincing (optional).

• Give logical reasons related to the given information.

• Try to write a conclusion to finalise the choice made.

Question 3

Remember to:• Read the instructions at least

twice.• Study the pictures & note the

details.• Think of the tenses that are to

be used.

• Think of the ‘Wh’ questions.• Start writing the draft on a

piece of paper.• Try to introduce the characters

in the story.• There must be a story-line(a

good flow in the sequence of events).

• Use linkers, variety of sentences, similes & proverbs to make the essay interesting (optional).

• Conclude the essay well.• Go through the essay – check for

spelling, grammar, punctuation & sentence structures.

• Finally, copy the finished product onto the question paper.

Reminder to students:

•Question 3 – creative writing!

•Determines whether you will get A.

Tips on Paper 1

1. Answer all the questions in the paper – 40 MCQ

2. Read the questions carefully before choosing your answer.

3. There is only one correct answer so choose the best.

4.Use discriminating method if you are not very sure of your answer.

5.If there is any accompanying picture, study it carefully because there is a clue in the picture to help you to get the answer.

6. If you find a difficult question, mark it with an astheric and move on to the next question.

7. When you are done with all the other questions, go back to the difficult ones and use discriminating method to get the best possible answer.

8. Finally, check your answers and make sure you blacken the correct choice, A , B, C or D.

9. If there is anything to erase, make sure you erase it well.
