Embroidery Trends

We speak with monogram master Stitchfork about the renewed popularity of personalized embroidery

Monogramming and customization have long been a part of the machine embroidery world, but with the rise in the availability of the personal embroidery machine, personalizing apparel and accessories has never been more on trend.

Urban Threads crafter Cathy, aka Stitchfork, has been on top of this trend from early on. Cathy got into customization when she got sick of always asking whose wet towel was left on the floor, and eventually solved the issue by stitching her kids’ names onto their bath towels. That aha moment launched her into the world of monogramming, and she has since built her business creating custom monograms incorporating Urban Threads designs and artfully arranged initials.

According to Cathy, monogramming is everywhere now. Though the traditional styles are always popular, she sees the need to add some creativity to those styles and “draw in those new to wearing and using items monogrammed.”

So where does one start? When choosing embroidery designs for monogramming creations, Cathy believes each one should be a unique reflection of that person. “I love the traditional monograms,” she says, “but then I’ll look at it and try to figure out how to make it different. I love to break those traditional rules.”

Monogramming is only getting more popular and interesting as more people get their hands on the ability to stitch their own style. Check out some fun alphabet designs here and see where this trend leads your own craft!
