XXII. ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY/HUMAN DISEASES

Demonstrates an understanding of normal structure and function of the body, including understanding of basic cell structure and function, chemical process of life, interrelationships of body systems.

Biology Standard 3: Cells and Biochemistry-Students learn cellular and chemical foundations of life, how energy moves through living systems, and the matter cycles 1. cells are ultimately responsible for all life processes 2. most life processes can be explained at the chemical level

10th 19.0

Demonstrates an understanding of human growth and development.

Biology Standard 3: The Human Body – Interacting Organ SystemsStudents learn to explain human body functions in terms of interacting organ systems that maintain internal balance/health, and how they compare with other organisms.

10th 8.0

Understand the role of DNA structure, replication, and mutation in human inheritance.

Biology Standard 3: Genetics Students learn the basic principles of how traits are expressed and passed down from generation to generation 1. DNA is the molecular basis of heredity, genetic variability, and continuity of a species

10th 6.0

Demonstrate an understanding of the role of genetics in human population and environmental issues, including an understanding of the advances made in DNA manipulation and how this creates bioethical debates in the medical community.

Biology Standard 3: Genetics Students learn the basic principles of how traits are expressed and passed down from generation to generation 2. principles of genetics explain physical traits of organisms, patterns of inheritance, and genetic disorders 3. recent advances in technology have made DNA manipulation possible

• CADD DraftingStarted with crosswalk of national CADD standards and district math

performance expectations. Team was high school CADD, district content expert, community college academy teacher and retired math specialist. Only using, senior level course of CAD 202 to add advanced math modeling. Piloting next year.

• Process TechSimilar team make-up starting with identification of modules of

petroleum, carbonated beverages, medical and semiconductors cross-referencing with science performance expectations. Modules identified by industries in Colorado. Optional modules in food science, forensics & waste water management. Hope to have science credit by fall.
