Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM)
ITAM supports the objectives of the Army Sustainable Range Program with
the goal of maximizing the capability, availability, and accessibility of
ranges and training land.
Principles: Integrated Management, Information Excellence, Outreach
Mission: Manage The Army’s Training Land “Platform” To Sustain Its
Future Use for Training by:
1. Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance
2. Range and Training Land Assessment
3. Training Requirements Integration
4. Sustainable Range Awareness

Target : Promote Environmental
Stewardship
Desired End-state:• Demonstrate how GMC safeguards the natural environment within the training area, while maximizing its uses as a training resource for U.S., NATO, and emerging partner nations.• Increase in environmental awareness of training units.• Maintain current environmental legislative exemptions for the military. • Educate the GMC about what they can do to support environmental stewardship initiatives.• Translate knowledge of how environmental influences affect our ability to provide quality of life and training support.

Promote Training Area Sustainability
Metrics• Sustain overall condition of installation lands to ensure long-term military viability. • Increase in available and accessible maneuver land.• Increase in the ability to enhance realism of training environment to replicate the operating environment.• Increase in invitations to external events.• Increase in message exposure in all media.• Increase in request for ITAM support from AFRICOM and EUCOM in support of Theater Security Cooperation activities.• Positive Media Framing of GMC environmental stories.• Decrease in EPAS survey findings.
Communication Target Summary
MESSAGES:• GMC remains committed to training land sustainability and environmental stewardship.• GMC sustains the natural installation environment while implementing practices to reduce energy usage and protect resources in order to provide a realistic training environment. • Through the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM), DPW Environmental, and German Federal Forestry programs, the GMC manages and maintains training land by integrating mission requirements with environmental requirements and sound land management techniques.• Sustainability is a direct result of training units taking care of the environment.• GMC is a haven of ecological biodiversity.
