    Local Unit Charted Information

    Version 3

  • WHAT LUCI DOES

LUCI is an Excel-based application that monitors five key performance measures. - Vessel examinations - Public education hours - Marine dealer visits - Surface patrol hours - Member training

  • WHAT LUCI DOES

LUCI charts those five key performance measures in up to ten units.

LUCI can chart both flotilla performance and division performance. User inputs are the same. LUCI files are updated by the 25th day of every month.

Performance comparison by year Monthly performance by unit

  • FINDING LUCI

Navigate to the Performance Measurement web page at

    http://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=m-dept. Then select LUCI.

  • FINDING LUCI

You’re inside! Select the icon of the district whose LUCI file you wish to view.

  • BRINGING LUCI HOME

You can select and download the district LUCI file to your computer. You will also see that this LUCI User Guide is available in both PowerPoint and .pdf format for download if needed. It is best to save your selected district LUCI file to your computer, and then open it up. Google Chrome will download it automatically. Explorer and Firefox will give you dialogue screens as shown:

  • When you first open your downloaded LUCI file, you might get this annoying pop-up message. Just select Enable Editing, and it will disappear permanently.

The six new consolidated flotillas created in the late 2014 district reorganization will display work performed prior to their time of creation. In the USCG database, work performed by members in forerunner flotillas are credited towards the consolidated units that replaced them.

    LUCI Opens Up

    For Fifth Northern Users

  • GETTING STARTED The User Console is where you select the unit(s) whose information you want to view and compare. Just follow the instructions on the screen.

Click anywhere in the unit box

  • GETTING STARTED In this example, we have just clicked on the left-most colored box. The icon for the drop-down box appears to its right. Clicking that icon will open the unit list so you can select one for viewing. Conversely, selecting “x” from the drop-down box will remove a displayed unit from view.

  • GETTING STARTED Here, we have selected four units to view and compare. Clicking the colored tabs below will bring us to the graph pages for each category show these four units.

  • LUCI KEEPS TABS

All LUCI pages have colored tabs on the bottom. Each tab covers a different area - Vessel Exams, Public Education, Dealer Visits, Boat Patrols, and Member Training. When you click on the yellow “Public Education” tab, for example, you’ll be taken to the Public Education page. There, you can view the graphs on PE activity for the units that you have selected. The black tab on the right has the software release information. At any time, you can return to the User Console via the red tab on the left to change your unit selections.

  • LUCI’s DASHBOARDS Here is the Public Education dashboard showing our four selected units. There is one large year-to-year chart, and up to ten smaller charts for each selected unit’s month-to-month data. Here’s how it the page appears zoomed out in 75% screen view. You can easily scroll down to view the monthly charts of the bottom units.

  • LUCI’s DASHBOARD GRAPHS

Each dashboard’s ten monthly graphs will display a projected figure for the current month and previous month. The reason for this projection is that it takes several weeks for the RBS and response information to make its way up the reporting chain into AUXINFO. All the other months show actual data. The dashboard’s yearly graph displays the selected units’ past four full calendar years.

  • WORKING WITH DIVISIONS

Here is another dashboard comparing divisions. In LUCI, you can select and compare divisions in exactly the same the same way that you compare flotillas. Divisions appear towards the bottom of the drop-down screens on the User Console.

  • AVOID RAINBOW SPAGHETTI

While the LUCI User Console can accommodate up to ten units, you will run the risk of getting “rainbow spaghetti” if you try. Using fewer units will you give results that are easier to interpret.

  • DETECTING VSC DATA LAGS Here are monthly VSC charts from two units in the Northeast. The graph on the right has a normal appearance reflecting seasonal activity. The one on the left shows high VSC activity late in 2012 and 2013. Since there was actually no VSC activity during those chilly months, such a charted upsurge will alert commanders that the unit’s Form 7038s were processed only after long delays.

  • GETTING SNIPPY

Windows Vista and later versions of Windows come with an onboard snipping tool. With this utility, you can cut LUCI graphs for pasting into other presentations. Macs also come with a snipping utility.
