GENERAL INFORMATION

AMIBEN® Ch10ramben Herbicide is effective appl1.edpreplant incorporated, preemergence and early postemergence. When used preemergence· it is most effective when applied the same day as planting. Rain, irrigation, water, or mechanical incorporation moves AMIBEN® into the soil where weed seeds sprout.

Uniform spray application over the soil surf~ce is important. About 10-20 gallons of water or sprayable fluid fertilizer for ground and about 3-5 gallons for air application is enough spray solution for good coverage. See specific sections of this label for any special spray volume requirements.

AMIBEN® Herbicide remains active and effective for several weeks ... 10ng enough generally for crops to fill middles and shade out the late season weed growth. Moisture Is necessary to move AMIBEN® ch10ramben herbicide into the soil zone where weed seeds germinate. On course and medium soils one third inch of rainfall or overhead irrigation is sufficient to move AMIBE~

( rbicide into the seed germination zone. One fine soils one half inch of )'dlnfa11 or overhead irrigation is needed. Moisture must be received within 5 days after application and prior to weed emergence. High intensity or excessive rainfall or excessive irrigation after application may reduce control by moving the product below the weed seed germination zone.

In coarse textured soils with less than 1% organic matter heavy rains may move AMIBEN® Herbicide below the weed seed germination zone and produce erratic weed control. Weed tontro1 may be reduced on peat or muck soils (over 8% organic matter.)

Band application of AMIBEN® may be made for broadleaf weed control over the top of preplant soil incorporated grass killers.

Deep germinating annual weeds and sprouts from established perennial weeds are not controlled. Sprouts coming from roots of established perennial weeds such as horsenet",l e, hedge bi ndweed, nutsedge (nutgrass), mil kweed, dogbane, quackgrass, and johnsongrass are not controlled by any selective, surface preemergence chemical treatment including AMIBEN®.

DIRECTIONS FOR INCORPORATION OF AMIBEN®

AMIBEN® Herbicide applied alone, and several AMIBEN® tank mixtures as specified in the crops section of this label, may be incorporated into the top 1 to 3 inches of the final Seedbed before planting. When preplant incorporation is recommended in the crops section of this label the following

( .uipment and operating procedures should be used. Be sure to use machinery that mtxes AMIBENe thoroughly with the soil. Incorporation with implements set to cut less than 2 inches deep may result in erratic weed control.

Recommended Equipment Includes:

1. Two passes with a disc set to cut 4 inches deep at 4 to 6 mph with the second pass running at an angle to the first. A tandem or double-disc operated on~ time does not provide adequate incorporation.

2. One pass with ~ field cultivator set to cut 3 to 4 inches deep and operated at 6 Mph or m~re. The field cultivator should have 3 to 4 rows of sweeps, spaced at intervals of 7 inches or less and staggered so that no soil 1s left unturned. Ch1sel points should not be used. The field cultivator used alone or in combination with the double-disc will provide effective.incorporation. If used 1n combination with a double-disc the spray boom should be mounted behind the disc blades but ahead of the cultivator sweeps.

3. One pass with a rolling cult1vator set to cut 2 to 3 1nches deep and or.erated at 6 to 8 Mph. Rol11ng cultivators are adequate for use on

5. PTO-driven equipment (tillers, cultivators, hoes) set to cut 2 to 3 inches deep with rotors spaced to provide a clean sweep of the soil operated one time. PTO-driven equipment should not be operated at a speed greater than 4 mph.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

AMIBENI in water or fluid fertilizer: first fill the spray tank 1/4 to 1/2 full with clean water. Start agitation and add AHIBENI while adding the remaining required water or fluid fertilizer.

A~IBENI Plus Emulsifiable Concentrates in Water: first fill tank 1/4 to 1/2 full with clean water, start agitation and add AMIBENI. Mix thoroughly

("<j add water until tank is 3/4 full, continue agitation and add the IIlulsiffable concentrate material. Fill tank with remaining required water

and continue agitation during spraying until tank is empty. Agitation should sweep bottom contents of the tank up into the main body of the spray mixture for thorough mixing. If a compatibility agent 'is required it should be thoroughly mixed with the water before adding the emulsifiable concentrate. To prevent foaming, avoid stirring or splashing air into the mixture by placing the end of the fill pipe below the surface of the water in the spray tank.

AHIBEN® Plus Wettable Powders or Flowables: Fill tank 1/2 full with clean water, start sprayer agitation and add the recommended amount of the flowable or wettable powder. Mix thoroughly and add AMIBEN® while filling tank with remaining required water. Continue agitation during entire spraying operation until tank has been emptied. Agitation should sweep bottom contents of the tank up into the main body of the spray mixture for thorough mixing and ~niform suspension.

'bIRECTtpNS FOR USING AMIBEN® THROUGH OVERHEAD IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

AMIBEN® may be applied as a preemergence treatment in irrigation water alone, or in tank lIIixtures with any of the other herbicides on this label which are re~istered for center pivot or overhead irrigation,application. Use the broadcast rates per acre for each pi ,<juct as specified elsewhere on thfs label for each of the tank mixtures, and follow all use precautions below and on respective labels for any other products applied In this Rlanner. Use only through automated (center pivot or continuous lateral move) equipment which is properly maintained and operated to apply water uniformly.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

Remove scale, pesticide reSidues and other foreign Rlatter from the ~hemlcal tank and the entire injector system. Flush with clean water. In the chemical tank prepare a Rlixture with a Rlinimum of 1 part of water to I part of herbicide(s). Maintain continuous agitation in the chemical tank while in~2cting into t!le irrigation system with a positive dfsplacement pump. Injecting a larger volume of a more dilute Rlixture will usually provide lIIore accurate calibration of metering eqUipment.

Set sprinkler to deliver 0.5 inch or lp.ss of water per acre. ApplicatiQn of more than 0.5 inch of water per acre may reduce weed control by moving the herbicide below the weed germination zone.

USER PRECAUTIONS:

Apply AMIBEN® only through systems containing anti siphon and check valves and having interlocking controls between the metering device and the water pump to insure their simultaneous shutoff to prevent water source contamination and overflow of the mixing tank.

To insure adequate mixing inject the chemical into the main line at least 8 feet ahead of a right angle turn.

Do not apply when conditions favor drift, such as from windy conditions, or when system joints and connections are leaking, or when nozzles do not

(nrovide uniform distribution, as crop injury may result.

Where sprinkler distribution patterns do not overlap sufficiently, unacceptable weed control may result. Where sprinkler distribution patterns overlap excessively, crop injury may result.

DIRECTION FOR USING AMIBEN® IN CONSERVATION OR REDCCED TILLAGE SYSTEMS

When applied as directed below, AMIBEN® tank mixtures will control many emerged annual weeds, suppress many emerged perennial weeds and will give . preemergence control of many annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in conservation tillage or reduced tillage systems.

When used In tillage systems with practices which elimir:ate all existing vegetation before planting, AMIBEt~ may be <Jsed alone or in ta"~_ mixture with any of the other products on this label which are labeled for use in reduced tillage operations. AMIBEN® and AMIBEN® combinations with other

( ~eemergence or preplant incorporated herbicides will not control emerged deeds. The presence of previous crop residue (trash) which is uniformly distributed on the soil surface will not affect the performance of AMIBEN®, providing sufficient rainfall (0.375 to 0.5 inch) is received before weeds begin to germinate. IF WEEDS HAVE BEGUN TO EMERGE AT TIME OF APPLICATION FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW.

When used in tillage systems where emerged weeds are present at planting, either Roundup, or Paraquat plus Ortho X-77 spreader should be added to the AMIBEN® tank mixture. Refer to the respective Roundup, Paraquat and Ortho X-77 labels for crops labeled, weeds controlled. use rates. and specific precautions to be taken. Use a minimum of 15 to 40 gallons of water per acre and apply the tank mixture during or after planting, but BEFORE CROP EMERGENCE. As density of stubble, crop residue or weeds increase, spray gallonage and rate should be increased, within recommended ranges, to assure good coverage.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF AMIBEH® WITH SPRAYABLE FLUID FERTILIZERS.

In most cases, AMIBEN® Chloramben Herbicide can be mixed and applied with liquid nitrogen. blended clear liquids, or suspension type fertilizers.

The compatibilitv of tank mixtures of AMIBENe with other herbicides in combination with l1quld fertilizers should be evalua',!d on a small scale before mixing spray tank quantities. Do not use fertilizer mixes with combinations of AMI BENe and Premerge 3.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE ON SOYBEANS

AMIBEN® PRE EMERGENCE OR PREPLANT INCORPORATEO

AMIBEN® Chloramben Herbicide may be used as a preemergence or preplant incorporated herbicide. AMIBEN® may be applied and incorporated at planting or several days prior to planting. Uneven spray application or improper soil ~ :orporation of AMIBEN® can produce erratic weed control. Incorpor£te '1:nemical in the top 0 to 2 inch level as most weeds sprout in this zone. Refer to the "Directions for Incorporation" section of this label for approved incorporation eqUipment and operating procedures.

In coarse textured soils heavy rains on incorporated AMIBEN® Herbicide may move it below the weed seed germination zone and produce erratic weed control.

Use the higher rate of AMIBEN® when heavy populations of black nightshade, velvetleaf, wild mustard, cammon ragweed or Pennsylvania smartweed are expected. To insure good spray coverage use 10 to 20 gallons of water per acre with ground equipment or a minimUM of 5 gallons of water per acre by aircraft.

When band sprlying, .ount the spray nozzle on the last picker or row wheel so that planting and spraying Ire done in the same operation. Proper calibration and maintenance of desired nozzle height above the ground are very Important. Weeds growing In the middles ~etween the treated rows should be cultivated as soon as necessary.

Use care while cultivating to avoid throwing fresh 5011 on treated bands.

Apply AMIBENe at the rate of 3 to 4qUarts.per broadcast acre. Use the higher rate of AMIBEN® on finer soils or when heavy populations of pigweed, annual nightshade, ragweed, smartweed, barnyardgrass or foxtail are expected. Use the higher rate of Command 4 EC on finer soils or when heavy populations of velvetleaf, Jimsonweed or ragweed are expected.

When applying mixtures of AHIBEN® Chloramben Herbicide plus Command, observe all cautions and limitations appearing on the labels for each of the products. Observe application precautions, rotational crop/graZing and feeding restrictions and replanting instructions on the Command 4 EC label.

A tank mixture or the sequential treatment of AMIBEN® Herbicide and Lasso will control the following annual weeds: barnyardgrass, crabgrass, foxtail (green, yellow, giant), fall panicum, 1ambsquarters, pigweed, smartweed, ragweed, black nightshade, l'e1vet1eaf and wild mustard, as well as all other weeds listed on the AMIBEN® and Lasso labels. For uniform application tank mixture of AMIBEN® Herbicide and Lasso use 10 to 20 gallons of water per acre for ground application. To prepare the tank mixture refer to the "Mixing Instructions" portion of this label. DO NOT mix AMIBEN® Herbicide and Lasso concentrates before the addition of water as an emulsion will not be formed.

Apply AMIBEN® and Lasso prep1ant incorporated or preemergence using the appropriate rates from the table below. For prep1ant incorporated treatments apply the tank mixture to the soil and incorporate into the top two inches of soil as directed in the "Directions for Incorporation" portion of this label. For preemergence treatments, apply the tank mixture during planting (behind the planter). For sequential applications apply Lasso alone preplant

( corporated as specified on the Lasso label. Follow with a preemergence application of AMIBEN® Herbicide during planting (behind the planter).

With preemergence treatments rain is necessary to move the chemicals into the soil and make them available to control ger~inating weed seeds. If no rainfall occurs within 5 days fo110wlrg application, a shallow incorporation no deeper than 2 inches is recommended. High intensity or excessive rainfall after application may reduce control.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE ON SNAPBEANS (GREEN AND YELLOW)

Apply AMIBEN® at the rate of 4 to 5 quarts per.broadcast acre as a preemergence treatment in sufficient ~ater for good spray coverage (10 to 20 gallons of ~ater per acre). Use the higher rate of AMIBEN® on heavy or high organic mineral soils or where Black Nightshade is a problem. Use the lower rate on loam soils. Do not use on sandy soils low in clay content or with less than 1% organic matter. Attach the applicator to the planter 50 that planting and spraying are done in the same operation. Rain or sprinkler irrigation carries AMIBEN® into the soil where weed seeds sprout. If weeds begin to emerge after AMIBEN® application, but prior to rainfall or irrigation, a light cultivation is recommended to up-root the small broadleaf weeds and grasses. The shallow mixing of AMIBEN® in the soil surface will not interfere with its weed killing action when rain comes.

WARNING:Stunting of beans has been observed when rains wash the chemical into contact with the germinating seed or the root system of

( young plants. Und~r good growing conditions plants normally recover and yields are generally not affected.

Heavy or prolonged rainfall may move AMIBEN® below the weed seed germination zone and produce erratic weed control.
