C;ENERAL INFORMATION

SCEPTER is a uniquely Oexible oroad-spectmm herbicide which may be applied preplant incorporated, preemergcnce or post emergence in soybeans.

When SCEPTER is applied to the soil, susceptible weeds emerge, growth stops, and then the weeds either die or are not competitive with the crop.

When SCEPTER is applied postemergcnce, absorption occurs through both the foliage and roots. Susceptible weeds stop growing and either die or are not competitive with the crop.

A timely cultivation may aid in the control of cert.lin weeds or iJllllrove general weed coatrol when adequate moisture is not received after application. Cultivation should be shallow. After postemergence treatments, wait at least 10 days before cultivating.

The mode of weed killing activity involves uptake of SCEPTER by wee.:! roots andlor foliage and rapid translocation to growing POi.lts. Therefore, adequate soil moisture is impolt.mt 'or optimum SCEPTER activity. The amount of rainfall or irrigation required following application depends on existing soil mobture. '9;1 texture

) and organic matter content. Sufficient water to moisten the soil to a depth of 2 inches is normally equate. If adequate moisture is not received within 7 days after treatment. then a cultivafjon or postemergen"" herbicide application may be needed to improve weed control. When adeqm'e moisture is received after dry conditions. SCEPTER will provide residual control of susceptible germinating weeds; activity on es:ablished weeds will depend on the weed species and the I('cation of its root system in the soil.

)

A soil treatment of SCEPTER followed by a postemergence application of SCEPTER" OT'" or Classic6 will control certain problem weeds. Use sequential treatments in recommended states only

Occasionally, internode shortening of s"ybean plants may be observed with SCEPTER applications. 'This has no effect on soybean yields

Nat:Irally OCCurrill c biotypes· of some of tile weeds listed on this label may not be effectivelY controlled by this andlor (,ther products with either the ALS/AIIAS en;.mle inhibiting mode of action. Other herbicides with the ALS/AHAS en/Hne inhibiting mode of acti"n include the sulfonylure.1S (eg, Accent', B~sis'. CI~ssic', Concert', Exceed' . Pennit'. I'inn~cl", etc), the sulfonamides (e.g., Broadstrike', etc.) and the pyrirnidyl benzuates (e g . S~aplen. etc) If natur~lIy occurring ALS/AHAS resistant biotypes are present in ~ field, SCEPTER andlor any other ALS/AIIAS enzyme inhibit in/! mode of action herbicide should be tank-mixed or ~pplied seqllenti~lIy with ;;n appropri~te registered herbicide h~\'ing a different mode of action to ensure control.

PRECAUTIONS:

)

)

DO NOT use on crops other than soybeans. Crops other than soybeans, such as cotton, com and vegetables, may be injured by spray drift or other indirect contact with SCEPTER.

To avoic' mjury to sensitive crops from spray drift, follow all use directions and precautiJns in the SPRAYING INSTRUCTIONS section.

Do not use SCEPTER other than in accordance with the instructions sct forth on this label.

To avoid injury to sensitive crops, spray equipment used for SCEPTER applications mllst be drained and thoroughly c!~ed with water before being used to apply other productS to these crops. See the ROTATIONAL CROP RESTRICTION section for details.

There must be an interval of at least 90 days between the last SCEPTER application and soybean harvest.

DO NOT graze or feed treated soybean forage. bay or straw to livestock.

Use of SCEPTER herbicide in accordance with label directions is expected to result in normal growth of rotational crops in most situations; however. various environmental and agronomic factors make it impossible to eliminate all risks associated with the use of this product and. therefore, crop injury, is always possible. See ROTATIONAL CROP RESTRICTIONS secti1n.

Replanting: If replanting is necessary in a field previously treated with SCEPTER. the field may be replanted to soybeans. Rework the soil no deeper than the treated zone DO NOT apply a second treatment of SCEPTER.

DIRECTIONS FOR CONVENTIONAL, MINIMUM, AND NO-TILL APPLICATIONS

APPLICATION RATE

Apply SCEPTER at a broadcast rate of 2n pint per acre for preplant incorporated and prccmcrgence (including minimum and no-till systems) applications. At this broadcast rate, one gallon of SCEPTER will treat 12 acres of soybeans. Apply SCEPTER at a broadcast rate (Jf 1/3 or 2n pint per acre for postemergence applications.

NOTE:

NOTE:

For preplant incorporated and preemergence applications on sands and loamy sands, 1/2 pint per acre can be used without a substantial reduction in the control of only cocklebur and pigweed.

In Use Region 3 as defined by the Use Area section of this label, apply SCEPTER prior to July 1.

APPLICATION INSTRUcnONS

SOIL APPLICATIONS

SCEPTER may be applied in conventional, minimum, or no-till as a preplant incorporated or pr~~rnergence application up to 45 Oays (30 days in Use Region I) before planting. Preemergence applications may also be applied during or after planting but before the crop emerges.

Adequate moisture is required for activation of SCEPTE~

PREPLANT INCORPORATED APPLICATIONS

Applv SCEPTER before planting and incorporate uniformly into the top I to 2 inches of soiL

S( 'EPTER may be applied immediat~ly before planting or up to 10 days prior to planting in Use Region I Fe,; lise Region 2 and Use Region J. SCEPTER may be applied 45 days prior to planting. Incorporate within 7 days aftcr application

Posn:I\1ERGENCE APPLICATIONS

SCEPTER applied postcmcrgcncc not only controls the emerged weed species listed previously, but can also provide residual COni' 01 of susceptible weeds that may emerge after application. Application should be made to small soybeans so n."re herbicide reaches the soil surface, The ,level of residual control will depend on weed density and canopy closure which affect the amount of SCEPTER reaching the soil surface and environmental conditions, such as rainfall, at the time of and following application.

To maximize weed control following a post emergence SCEPTER application, wait at least 10 days befort: cultivating, TIlls timely cultivation will enhance residual weed control, especially under dry conditions,

Use a nonionic or organo-silicone surfactant or crop oil concentrate,' The nonionic surfactant should contain at least 80% active ingredient anJ should be applied at a rate of 2 pints per 100 gallons of sp!'3y mixture, The organo-silicone surfactant should be applied at a rate of at least I pint per 100 gallons of water, Refer to the specific surfactant label for more specific use instructions, Apply the crop oil concentrate (COC) at the rate stated on the COC labeL

There must be an interval of at least 90 days between the last SCEPTER applicadon and soybean harvC§t

HERBICIDE COMBINATIONS

A soil treatment of SCEPTER is active against many grass species, but for maximum grass control SCEPTER should be tank mixed with PROWL 3,3EC herbicide, trifluralin, Frontier, Lasso or Oual, SCEPTER may also be applied as a sequential preemergence or postemergence treatment following application of one of the above grass herbicides,

For no-till IIses. SCEPTER may be tank mixed with Gramoxone Extra, Roundup, 2,4-0, or 2,4-08 to kill existing vegetation, Gramoxone Extra. Roundup, 2,4-0 or 2,4-0B should be deleted from the tank mixture if vegetation is absent at the time of application SCEPTER may also be tank mixed with Bronco, a product which gives both preemergencc control of annual grasses and postemergence control of existing vegetation, Use a minimum of 10 gallons of water per acre, Usc higher gallonage for fields with dense vegetation or he"vy crop residues Usc ground equipment only Plant soybeans at least one inch deep and adjust planters to ensure adequate seed coverage

In addition to those broadleaf herbicides sr .ifically mentioned elsewhere in this label. a SCEPTER application may be followed bv one or more of the It'llowing herbicides: Ba"'1granX, Blazer, GalaxyR, Storm8, Cobra, or Renex,

SCEPTER Plus Frontier Tank Mixture

Apply SCEPTER plus Frontier in conventional, minimum, or no-till soybeans as a preplant or preemergence surface application or preplant incorporatec application up to 30 days before planting. Surface applications may also be applied during planting or early postemcrgence to soybeans (up to unifoliate stage) but before weeds emerge.

The Frontier use rate to be tank mixed with SCEPTER varies by soil type. The most accurate indicator of appropriate usc rate for Frontier is the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of the soil to be treated. CEC values are available in standard soil testing procedures: When use rates are expressed in ranges use the lower end of the rate range for lower CEC values and use the higher end of the rate range for higher CEC values.

LIQUID FERTILIZER COMPA T1BILITY DETERMINATIONS

If a liquid fenili!.er and herbicide(s) Il'ixtufc separates in the spray tank, clogged equipment and uneven application can reslIlt, whkh can cause pl r weed comrol and crop injury. Always predetermine the compatibility of SCEPTER alone or with other herbici<!es in the specific liquid fenilizer to be used according to the followin~ directions

I. Add I pint fertilizer to each of 2 one-quart jars.

2. Add In teaspoon of adjuvant to one jar. See rrcommended adjuvants below.

NOTE: Comprex-Yalo Laboratories Incorporated, Kansas City, MO; Sponyo 168 D-Witco-Retzloff Chemical Company, Houston, TX; Unite-Hopkins Agricultural Chemical Company, Madison, WI; or other compatible adjuvants.

(3) When using SCEPTER alone, add to each jar the correct amoUllt of SCEPTER as specified in the table below.

(b) When using SCEPTER tank mixtures, first add the specified qu,mtity of SCEl'TEi and then add the correct amOlmt of PROWL 3.1EC, trifluralin, Lasso, Dual, Command 4EC or metribuzin.

Close both jars and shake thoroughly for \ Q seconds. Let them stand for 30 minutes and then observe the results. Look for signs of separation, an oily layer of globules, sludge, flakes or other precipita~c3.

(a) If the mixture without adjuvant docs not separate, use this mixture in your spray tank

(b) If the mixture with adjuvant does 110t separate, but the one without adjuvant separates, usc the adjuvant mixture i" your spray tank Add the adjuvant to the liquid fertilizer as direcll1<i on the mallufacturer's label

(e) If either mixture sef.arates but mixes readilv with ~haking, the mixture can be used providing good agitation is m"intaincd in the 'l'lJ" tank

APPLICATIONS WITH DRY BULK FERTILIZERS

Sn'l'TER may be impregnated on dry bulk fertilizers. When applied as directed, SCEPTER/dry bulk fertili/cr lIli.,t!!res provide weed control equal to that provided by the sarne tates of SCEPTER applied in water.

ApI SCFPTER/dry bulk fertilizer mi,,1ures only with ground equipment.

Ali individual state regulations relating to dry bulk fertilizer blending, registration, labeling, and application are the responsibility of the individual and/or ctlmpany selling the SCEPTER/dry bulk fertilizer mixture.

A minimum of 200 pounds and a maximum of 450 pounds of' dry bulk fertilizer impreb-.ated with the recommended amount of SCEPTER must be applied per acre.

DO NOT impregnate SCEPTER onto coated ammonium nitrate or limestone because these materials will not ahsorb the herbicide. Dry fertilizl' blends containing mixtures of ammonium nitrate or limestone may be impregnated with SCEPTER. A minimum of 200 pounds cf impregnated dry bulk fertilizer, excludlllg the weight of ammonium nitrate or limestone, must be applied per acre.

) Usc the following table to determine the amount of SCEPTER to be impregnated on a ton of dry bulk fertilizer based on the rate of fertilizer which will be applied per acre.

of fertilizer

To impregnate SCEPTER on bulk fertilizer, usc a closed rotary-drum mixer or other commonly used dry bulk fertilizer blender equipped with suitable spray equipment. Spray nozzles must be placed to provide uniform coverage of SCEPTER onto the fertilizer during mixing.

Apply the SCEPTER/dry bulk fertilizer mixture with an accurately calibrated dry fertilizer spreader. The SCEPTER/dry bulk fertilizer mixture m'lst be spread uniformly on the soil surface. Uneven spreading can cause poor weed control a/'j crop injury.
