Reminder

For more than 17 years the ExtensionProgram has been offering its studentsan exceptional academic experience. We propose not only a high quality, full-fledged linguistic programbut one that during the week also covers all the aspects of American culture through its traditions and history. Throughout the years, wehave established a reputation of excellence and hard work thanks toour team of teaching professionalswho are all English mother tonguespeakers and hold a teaching degree;the majority of whom also hold aMasters from the United States educational system and are trained inteaching the English language and notjust English as a foreign language. Atthe start of each Summer Camp, theyprove themselves with innovation and creativity in establishing an original linguistic approach that brings out themaximum learning potential in eachstudent in conjunction with their aptitude while motivating them with aconstructive critical eye, imaginationand making them feel part of thegroup. Our mission: to give each language learner the necessary toolsthat will help them develop their individual talents and groom them intobuilding their individual path towardssuccess.

COOPERATIVE LEARNING

Students work together to maximize learning, both individually andcollectively. The objective is to promote higher achievement andgreater productivity by stimulating motivation, higher-level reasoning, and critical thinking. This includes “esprit-de-corps” andcohesion which reinforces each student's personal and academicstrengths while developing self-esteem, responsibility, and socialcompetences.

THE PORTFOLIO

The purpose of a student-working portfolio is to present cumulativework covered each week. It includes: drafts, written exercises, finished/unfinished work and students' and teachers' evaluations onwritten and oral projects. This is designed to fully involve students inthe learning process, and motivate them to be more active, critical andresponsible participants. Each student will be evaluated by the teacheron the first day of Summer Camp.

CLASSTIME - 9:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

Class time consists of daily intensive English courses especially designed for non-native speakers. Highly qualified teachers enhancethe learning experience by introducing grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening comprehension and oral expression in the classroom. Ourpedagogical approach, through which students experience a new culture and broaden their horizons, exceeds conventional linguisticacquisition.

The Mississippi

The length of the Mississippi River is approximately 2,340 miles. It is the fourthlongest river in the world and flows through ten US states: Louisiana,Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsinand Minnesota. The first bridge built across the Mississippi River was in 1855with the first railroad bridge finished a year later in 1856. The Mississippi Riverserves as a water supply for 70 towns and cities.

The Mississippi River has had strong historical significance in the USA fromNative American tribes through European explorers. It may be the most musicalriver in the entire world. Blues, jazz and folk songs were all created along theriver. There is an abundance of literature inspired by the rivers’ character and thecultural diversity of the people who have resided along its banks. Many of MarkTwain’s famous stories take place near the river, this including the well known“Adventures of Huckleberry Flinn”. Author Tennessee Williams lived in NewOrleans for several years and the river’s influence is a constant undercurrent inhis works. The Mississippi River includes a variety of organisms and ecosystems. Todaythe river needs protection from pollution and over development. Students willlearn about what has been done to save one of the world’s greatest rivers.Workshops will be conducted to raise awareness of major environmental issues.
