Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, pray for those who mistreat you. ~ Luke 6:27

From Our Pastor, Fr. Fausto ... My Dear Friends,

The gospel today is a true earthquake of our souls, John Wayne, Inspector Callahan or Captain America would find it absolutely incomprehensible. But we are followers of Jesus, not of Hollywood, we are the children of love and of the light, not of hatred and darkness. So let us follow the GOLDEN RULE: DO TO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU.

1. Love your enemies, starting with justice and sincerity in all diplomatic dealings to international peace.

2. Do good to those who hate you, in their jealousy, envy and trickery. Be just and fair in dealing with them, making sure that you let them know their trickery that you have forgiven, and that you have even prayed for them.

3. For those terms cloak and tunic, a parallel for us would be our conduct in civilian or criminal courts. As much as we can, let arbitration be followed more than endless destructive fights in court.

4. Give to everyone who asks of you. Are we doing our duty at home? Are we generous to one another? I always keep in my pocket a bunch of singles to give to every creature of God: a buck does give solace to a poor, and does not make me poor myself.

5. From the one who takes what is yours, do not demand it back. Colloquially, it is better to give to your relatives as gifts, not as borrowed money: you’ll never see it back to you anyway. Lend expecting nothing back.

6. Be merciful! Spread love and compassion around; be just another Jesus! A forgiving child of God!

7. Stop judging and condemning: God will judge and condemn us in the same way we do. If we do not do it from our tender heart, let us do it at least for our own interest which is to enter into paradise; and they know we are Christians by our love.

Today is Commitment Sunday. All parishioners are kindly encouraged to to submit a commitment card for the Offertory Campaign and the Catholic Faith Appeal.

We need every family to provide a regular, consistent support to the parish offertory. We also need to support our Diocesan programs and ministries which are so vital. “What return shall I make to the Lord for all the blessings He has given me?” Psalm 116.

Welcome to our new parishioners who have just moved downtown! Be sure to read our bulletin to join us for all our events and ministry gatherings, like our monthly family dinner hosted by the Knights of Columbus. Also, if you wish to have your new home, condo or apartment blessed by a priest or deacon, contact Sara in the parish office to schedule a visit.

Smile, God loves you and so does Fr. Fausto with your St. Martha clergy:

FEBRUARY 24, 2019 PSALTER WEEK III

Did you know? St. Martha Parish provides more than $100,000 annually to help the poor in our community.

LECTIO DIVINA Thursdays during Lent Starting on March 7th Br. Geenen Hall at 6:15 p.m. “Those who listen to the Word of God and act upon it will

enter the Kingdom of God” Lectio Divina is the ancient way of praying and listening to The Word of God. With it, generations of Christians have prayed and deepened their relationships with God. Through the listening to the Word of God they have found and done the will of God in their everyday lives. We invite you to join Fr. Jan Rykala, S.A.C. during Lent to learn more about it and follow this way of praying.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES SUMMARY JANUARY 16, 2019

State of the Parish • This Lent is to be focused on bringing people back to

the faith with the theme: Do you love someone, who no longer practices the faith, enough to ask them to return to Church?

• The Knights could host a dinner to reach out to the people who do not attend Mass.

• Many new families are moving into the downtown area, and we need to welcome them to our parish.

• We will plan to send out St. Martha marketing literature and invite people to a parish dinner with council members.

• We will continue to distribute brochures to the new downtown hotel and condo lobbies.

School Update • Enrollment is going up: St. Martha School = 438 students

and St. Mary Academy = 68 students. • Interest from prospective students is rising with 7-10

school tours per week. • In compliance with the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Act,

the new security deputy from the sheriff’s department started working on the combined school campus.

• Catholic School’s Week was at the end of January. The school partnered with FELT (Feeding Empty Little Tummies) and students and their parents/family packaged 1,600 bags of food/miscellaneous items for the needy students in Manatee County.

• Other events on the calendar: Father/Daughter Dance in February and the Golf Outing in March.

St. Martha Parish Religious Education • There are 240 students in the Religious Education Program. • St. Martha hosted a very successful Catechetical Day

with over 300 catechists and teachers in attendance. • The Confirmation date is March 30 and we have 35 high

school sophomores and six adults who will be receiving the sacrament.

• The Teacher’s Retreat is upcoming. New Business • Security is an current topic of concern. It will be further

explored to have additional security officers for after office hours meetings/gatherings.

Abortion affects countless marriages more than many people recognize. But there is no doubt that God will bring great healing to those who trust in his infinite mercy. If a past abortion can

LEGION OF MARY On March 2 and 3 the Legion of Mary will be in the courtyard having a free give away along with the sale of rosaries and rosary bracelets for the benefit of Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (Home for Relief of the Suffering), a private hospital
