USB Memory Stick Interface The USB Memory Stick is used to: transfer data recorded from the MD102 to a PC transfer new maps and databases from a PC to the MD102 change the configuration of the MD102 and update the software of the MD102 Technical Information The USB Interface is a four wire interface (two wires used for power and two wires used for serial data). On the MU102 the connector C1 has these signals on the pins 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. All wires can be AWG24 or AWG22; they can be straight or twisted, but if twisted, Data - (pin 15) must be twisted with Data + (pin 16) and Power 5V must be twisted with Power GND. The USB Shield must be connect to a shield which covers all four single wires, the two pairs together or the two pairs individually. USB Power 5V 14 USB Data - 15 USB Data + 16 USB Power GND 17 USB Shield GND 18 The BRAVIO interface UB102, includes a panel mounted female connector (part 900-303-635-011). The USB Interface is only used during maintenance on the ground and therefore does not have any interference problems. The connector should be located at a location, which is easy to access, but should not be in the cabin (a good place is the baggage area). The UB102 connector and the USB standard Interface (female side) have the (same) following pin definition: 1 5V red 2 Data- white 3 Data+ green 4 Ground black BRAVIO has a readymade cable to interface USB memory sticks with this connector.

USB Memory Stick Interface The USB Memory Stick is used to:

• transfer data recorded from the MD102 to a PC • transfer new maps and databases from a PC to the MD102 • change the configuration of the MD102 and • update the software of the MD102

Technical Information The USB Interface is a four wire interface (two wires used for power and two wires used for serial data).

Update Procedure 1. Prepare a USB Stick with one UPDATE.BAT file. The UPDATE.BAT file is a textfile

which contains the commands you want to execute when the system boots with the USB Stick activated.

When you create this file in Windows, make sure you really do create an UPDATE.BAT file and not an UPDATE.BAT.TXT file. If in doubt check the icon, it normally looks like this:

The UPDATE.BAT file permits the following commands: copy source-filename(wildcards permitted) target-filename (or pathname) /Y ren souce-filename target-filename erase filename mkdir pathname The built-in FLASH MEMORY is called drive C: the USB-STICK is normally drive D:

2. With the system on or off put the USB-Stick into the adapter cable and connect it to the

USB connector. 3. Turn the system ON or recycle the MD102 application until you are at the STARTUP

screen. 4. Select the option REBOOT WITH USB, press RETURN and WAIT. The system will automatically reboot and execute all commands which are in the

UPDATE.BAT file on the memory stick. Thereafter the system will reboot again and will show the normal STARTUP screen. 5. Now you have to remove the USB STICK. At this stage the system is ready to use and does

not need to be rebooted again. Werner Dietmüller 08/08/2007
