Network QoS Assurance

Use case overview:

This is a use case based on the persona of a Network Planner where the Network Planner wants to analyze and review the QoS performance through the QCI-based traffic classes on the radio access network by viewing the offline Active Report (Network QoS Report) scheduled weekly. Active Report is part of Cognos 10 feature which will be available in the TNPM 1.4 release. This Active Report provides visibility to the Network Planner in terms of the worst contributing resources and worst-trending resources by analyzing the performances of selected Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

QOS Class Indicator (QCI) is used to specify the priorities and performance attributes for different services offered to the customers. For example QCI1 is for Voice traffic class and QCI3 is for real-time gaming.

An example scenario is the Network Planner identified in a particular EutranCell that 50% of the traffic belongs to online video traffic. A sharp decrease in IP throughput per average active subscriber will lead to customer’s dissatisfaction and potential customer churn issue. By analyzing the IP throughput per average active subscriber, Network Planner could identify those worst performing cells in a particular area and take appropriate actions, for example recommend increasing the network capacity by introducing new eNodeB in the case where IP throughput decreases because of increase in number of subscribers.

This use case overcomes the challenge of the operator to assure their network working properly and its give analytical result to the operators which help them to take operational and business decision.
