Use Lemons Daily
For Health
(“When life gives you a lemon... squeeze it!”)
On a personal note, here’s what I do when it comes to using lemonade daily and I published
this on my blog a while back and I am including it here:
To Our Valued Customers
Based on updated research, we at www.bodyhealthsoul.com would like to suggest the following
in addition to adopting the lifestyle changing program outlined in our e-book
*try to drink 2-2.5 quarts of unflavored lemonade daily in the mornings in one sitting and remain
still for several minutes afterwards for the solution to be properly assimilated.
Recipe:
1 lemon to a quart of room temperature water (so that’s 2 lemons for 64 oz or 2.5 lemons for 80
ounces)
HELPFUL HINTS: Rubbing the first squeezed half in a vertical motion on the tongue 3-times
before squeezing the rest of the lemon (s) helps keep the mouth hydrated.
In addition, to activate the salivary glands for optimum assimilation of the lemon juice, before
the first swipe and after the third swipe state a positive affirmation or favorite phrase like “The
Lord Is my shepherd, I shall not want….” Or whatever you want to say that’s positive. I even go
as far as to sing before saying these affirmations, making sure I hit various notes in the bass,
tenor and falsetto voices. Sounds weird admittedly, but it works for me.
Furthermore, do wait for at least 45 minutes before consuming any other food or drink items. On
a side note, to keep the intense, yet pleasant after taste of the lemonade, you can reduce the water
by about an ounce or two in both instances or add a few drops more of lemon juice to get more
of the tangy taste.
With all of that being stated, remember that Lemon juice keeps you hydrated and purifies the
body way more than just plain water. When you use just ordinary water, the human mechanism
cleanses itself, the same as though you would press out a dirty watery sponge, but the dirt in this
instance is sticky mucus and in many cases pus and drugs, which must pass through the
circulation until it is so thoroughly dissolved that it can pass through the fine structure of the
‘physiological sieve’ called kidneys. In other words, another good analogy will be washing
soiled close in a washing machine WITHOUT detergent?!
So on a daily basis; drink lemon water to help restore the pH balance in the body which is vital
for good health. You may be surprised to find out that lemons are an alkalizing food!
Although lemons are acidic in their basic form, they've a very different effect on the body once
digested and assimilated. The end result becomes alkaline. Our modern diets have led to many of
us having an overly acidic bodily environment. If the body is too acidic then immune deficiency
and an array of medical disorders can result.
Therefore, remember, Lemons are one of the most amazing fruit for your health and I will
like bring to your attention that lemons and limes are the richest source of minerals and
vitamins of any food or foods known to man, and they are available the year round.
When it comes to the lemon:
Its constituents benefits bile formation, which is essential for optimal fat metabolism. It helps
regulate the liver, promotes peristalsis, encourages tissue building, strengthens and energizes the
heart, stimulates and builds the kidneys and adrenal glands.
Its oxygen builds vitality, its calcium strengthens and builds the lungs, its sodium encourages
tissue building, and its iron builds the red corpuscles.
Lemons alkalize the pH of the blood to a healthy level and cleanse the blood plasma. It aids the
thyroid for deeper breathing and helps dissolve and eliminate mucoid plaque from the digestive
system.
Lemons act as an antiseptic agent that will prevent infection or putrefaction. They are also
antiscorbutic and assist in cleansing the system of impurities.
Lemons are a great stimulant to the liver and are also a solvent for uric acid and other poisons in
the body. People who may be suffering from rheumatism, rickets, tuberculosis and gout will reap
immense benefits from using lemon juice. During pregnancy, lemon juice is said to help build
strong bones in the child as it contains certain elements that help to build a healthy system and
keep it healthy. Taking into account its potassium content, lemons help nourish the brain and
nerve cells and its calcium strengthens the body and makes the teeth healthy.
According to documented research, the minerals found in lemons play an important role in the
formation of plasma-the fluid portion of the blood, considering that an average size lemon has
the following mineral contents.
1. Phosphorus 16 mg
2. Sodium 2 mg
3. Calcium 26 mg
4. Potassium 138 mg
5. Vitamin C 53 mg
6. Iron 0.6 mg
Lemons and their juices are great for treating all mucus related diseases, which well are all
diseases period. However, they come in quite handy for the treatment of asthma, gas, colds,
cough, sore throats etc.
Medicinal Uses of Lemons:
Lemon Remedies Published by Jethro Kloss in Back to Eden
* For sore throat, dilute lemon juice with water and gargle frequently. Dilute one-half lemon
juice with one-half water. It is even better to use straight lemon juice.
* A slice of lemon bound over a corn overnight will greatly relieve the pain.
* A slice of lemon bound over a felon [pus formation on a finger joint] will not fail to bring the
pus to the surface where it can be easily removed.
* To relieve asthma, take a tablespoon of lemon juice one hour before each meal.
* For liver complaints, the juice of the lemon should be taken in a glass of hot water one hour
before breakfast every morning.
* To break up la grippe [flu or influenza], drink a large glass of hot water with the juice of a
lemon added, while at the same time have the feet in a deep bucket or other vessel of water with
mustard added to it. The water should be deep enough to where it comes nearly up to the knees.
Keep adding hot water to the patient's tolerance and until the patient begins to perspire freely
(about 20-30 minutes). Be sure there is no draft on the person while this is done. The patient
should be near a bed so he can get in it easily and avoid any danger of getting chilled. If
convenient, a full hot bathtub would be good in place of the foot-bath. The lemon water should
be taken every hour until the patient feels that all the symptoms of the cold are gone.
* A teaspoon of lemon juice in half a glass of water relieves heartburn.
* For rheumatism, one or two ounces of lemon juice diluted in water should be taken three times
a day: one hour before meals and at bedtime.
* In cases of hemorrhage, lemon juice diluted in water and taken as cold as possible will stop it.
* Scurvy is treated by giving one to two ounces of lemon juice diluted with water every two to
four hours.
* In excessive menstruation the juice of three to four lemons a day will help check it. It is best to
take the juice of one lemon at a time in a glass of cold water.
Mr. Kloss explains how lemon juice can even help someone with stomach ulcers:
“How can one with an inflamed or ulcerated stomach partake in the juice? Would not a strong
acid like that of the lemon act as an irritant? That would depend on how it was taken. If in
quantity, yes. But to take it very weak at first [diluted sufficiently in water], it will cease to burn.
The sufferer afflicted with ulcerated stomach has to use great perseverance to affect a cure, and it
can be cured if care and patience is used. The gastric juice in the stomach is four times as strong
as lemon juice.”
Lemons May Even Help With Cancer Prevention.
Like all citrus fruits, Lemons and their juice are rich sources of vitamin C.
It has been estimated that a 50 g serving of fresh lemon juice, or slightly less than 1/4 cup,
provides 23 mg of vitamin C -- over 33 percent of the recommended daily value, or DV.
It should be noted that Vitamin C, like vitamins A and E, is an antioxidant that supports immune
system function. Furthermore, it helps protect your cells from free radicals, which can cause
significant damage.
According to the National Cancer Institute, by definition, free radicals are charged atoms that are
formed when certain molecules work together with oxygen. They react with cell membranes and
the DNA within cells, thus hindering their function.
Now, it is noteworthy that damaged cells are the first step leading to cancer development.
Therefore, again, choosing a diet high in antioxidants, from fruits and vegetables, plays an
important role in cancer prevention and to a degree, healing cancer as the case may be.
On that note, it should be pointed out that lemons and limes also contain disease-fighting
compounds known as limonoids and in laboratory tests with animals and with human cells, these
citrus limonoids have been shown to help fight cancers of the mouth, skin, lung, breast, stomach
and colon.
According to the US Agricultural Research Service, the human body is able to readily absorb a
specific, long-acting limonoid known as limonin and both lemons and limes contain nearly as
much limonin as they do vitamin C.
Now, this is special significance in cancer prevention because the results of a 2001 culture study
summarized in "Nutrition and Cancer," showed that this compound, at a concentration of 100
mcg/mL, was highly useful at partially inhibiting the growth of human ovarian cancer cells and
causing the death of breast cancer cells.
On a related note and adding to this piece of good news, it should be pointed out that three years
later in the "Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry," researchers discovered three new
limonoids. Two of these limonoids, obacunone and deoxylimonin, significantly reduced the
number and load of induced oral-cavity tumors by 25 to 50 percent!
So, by all means, please partake generously of this super fruit as outlined herewith.
Now, in the hope that you will be taking this advice to heart, let me recommend an alternative to
junk food that is packed with nutrients, has all the carbohydrate needs you may have, is sweet,
easily accessible and available year round. It might shock and amaze you, but, of all things, it is
the Tropical Fruit that virtually everyone must have had several times in their lives-The Banana.
This is a Recommended Staple Item For Health Seekers!
I have to bring this item to everyone’s attention, this fruit should not be overlooked and in
addition to the lemonade I have recommended (along with a recipe) Bananas should be a staple
in your diet.
Let’s face it, washing fruit, cleaning up afterwards, refrigeration and storage could be tasking
(albeit a little bit), and maybe that’s why some people find it difficult to stay on a healthy diet
based on plant and tree yields such as fruits, roots and leafy vegetables. However, what could be
more convenient than grabbing a banana, peeling it and having it for a snack? Nonetheless, do
remember, the Good Lord has blessed us with a plethora of delicious fruits that are very much
worth the effort or work that may be involved with consuming them.
I am just pointing out the fact that bananas are, besides being highly nutritious, perhaps the most
readily accessible fruit.
According to Dr. Doug Graham, a lifetime athlete, raw fooder (since 1978) and author of Grain
Damage, it is not unrealistic to eat 15 bananas a day!
By the way, Dr. Doug Graham is an advisor to world-class athletes and trainers from around
the globe. He has worked professionally with top performers from almost every sport and every
field of entertainment, including such notables as tennis legend Martina Navratilova, NBA pro
basketball player Ronnie Grandison, track Olympic sprinter Doug Dickinson, pro women's
soccer player Callie Withers, championship bodybuilder Kenneth G. Williams, Chicken Soup for
the Soul coauthor Mark Victor Hansen, and actress Demi Moore.
So suffice it to say he knows what he is talking about in regards to Bananas.
I believe bananas truly are a god send in that they are available year round and are quite cheap
even when organic.
Furthermore, they are durable, comfortable and of course sweet. Indeed, bananas should be a
staple in any health seeker’s diet. When fully ripe, they can be digested with ease and their high-
caloric density is a plus when it comes to meeting one’s energy needs.
It should be noted that when one eats primarily fruits and vegetables, you need not worry about
or keep track of Calories.
I can eat close to 3,000 calories a day or more on fruits easily and most people always say I’m
skinny!! (10 bananas alone is a 1000 calories and I’ve not mentioned 6-8 apples, 6-8 pears, 15 or
so tangerines and that’s in the fall. Don’t get me to talking about how many mangoes I eat after
eating a whole watermelon and 2-3 honeydew melons with ease! Trust me, yours truly can eat a
lot!!)
Now, let’s go over some healthy benefits of bananas.
Benefit #1: Bananas Provide A lot Energy-Even though it does not come with a fancy
packaging promising you anything, a banana will give an instant, sustained and substantial boost
of energy because it contains three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose. It’s been said
that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. The banana is
not the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes for nothing!
Benefit #2: Bananas Provide Vitamins & Minerals-Dear Friends, as will be discussed in
Chapter 14, vitamins are the cornerstone to good health, and the banana is packed with mostly
everything the body needs. (and on a related note, Lemons and limes are said the richest sources
of vitamins and minerals known to man!) The vitamin B6 that a banana contains regulates blood
glucose levels, which can affect your mood. It’s high levels of iron and potassium reduces the
risk of blood pressure and lowers the desire to snack on high carbohydrate foods. So suffice it to
say that after drinking the prescribed lemonade in the morning for breakfast and then having a 2-
3 course meal of fruits for lunch such as Tangerines, Bananas and Apples in the Fall or
Watermelon, Bananas and Mangoes in the summer, not that the fruits before and after the
bananas are of less significance to the body, but in eating bananas daily along with the lemonade,
you pretty much have met ALL your nutrient needs honestly-give or take.
Benefit #3: Bananas Promote Optimism-Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the
nervous system control our blood sugar. Since they also contain tryptophan, a type of protein that
the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, bananas will improve your mood and
generally make you feel happier. The happier you are, the more likely you will stick with a
healthy lifestyle and not want to revert to former habits of alcohol, smoking and eating the wrong
foods for comfort or distractions.
Benefit #4: Bananas Are Rich With Fiber-Including bananas in the diet can help restore
normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives. Fiber is
important for health because it helps absorb fat and helps the body so it functions at the optimal
level. Bananas have the ability to neutralize over-acidity and reduce irritation by coating the
lining of the stomach and working with arguably the most alkaline forming fruit-Lemons, on a
daily basis, you can see how over-acidity and disease will altogether be kept at bay.
Benefit #5: Bananas Are A Healthy Alternative-Again, Bananas are said to have perhaps
everything the human body needs, so this makes it one of the best value foods around. Don't ever
fall victim to the many fad diets out there that tell you an all-natural banana is bad for you due to
its sugar content. Come on, it’s meant to be sweet. You'll be hard pressed to find a healthier
alternative to eating cookies, baked goods etc.
Benefit #6: Bananas Are Easily Accessible-Most people never stop to think that the reason
Americans are so obese is because they just don't make the time to stop and think. A banana is
the ultimate fast food! Think about it, which can be done faster? To grab a banana and peel it
even if you are in a hurry or pulling up to a drive through window and waiting for that greasy
cheeseburger that you think is your only choice when you have to be somewhere. Folks, bananas
are quick and easy to eat at any given moment! The same argument could be applied to any fruit,
once they have been washed that is, but even if that is not feasible, dates are also quick and easy
to eat at any given moment and some actually taste like Snickers Bars. In addition, per the food
combination principles given in Chapter 26, dates combine perfectly well with bananas.
Benefit #7: Bananas Help With Depression-According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND
amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is
because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin,
known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. In addition
in regards to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they
contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan that may come in handy for such persons.
Benefit #8: Bananas Could Help With Anemia-Since they are high in iron, bananas can
stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Benefit #9: Bananas could help with Blood Pressure-because this unique tropical fruit is
extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much
so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official
claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.
Benefit #10: Bananas are one of the Ultimate Brain foods-200 students at a Twickenham
(Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast,
break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-
packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.
In addition to all the previously mentioned benefits, bananas are high in B vitamins that help
calm the nervous system. In addition they help with avoiding panic induced food cravings since
studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on
comfort food like chocolate and crisps Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the
most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid
panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high
carbohydrate foods and nothing can be the wholesomeness of bananas in this regard or any other
fruit at that.

A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a
certain set of attitudes.
- Hugh Downs
It's been said that Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The Vitamins B6 &
B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover
from the effects of nicotine withdrawal. It should also be noted that according to research in The
New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of
death by strokes by as much as 40%!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. Not to discount the apple per se,
however, when a banana is compared to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the
carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other
vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.
Maybe the saying should be a Banana a Day Keeps the Doctor Away!
