What to do with changing total area?
Area increase ~5000 ha
● Maasvlakte 1500 ha
● Border corrections, mainly with Belgium

Reed swamp
Drifting sand
Dunes, beaches and sand plates
Uncertainties in LUC
High resolution maps
Gridded to be able to follow changes
● 25m x 25m gridcells
● Majority rule applies most dominant LU to gridcells
Total area per LU type very low uncertainty
Changes in LU per gridcell are much more uncertain
LU changes in gridcells are followed over time

Check on classification of deforestation

Controle ontbossing 2013-2017
Comparison 2013 and 2017 kaart
● 140.202 polygons deforestation
● 20.232 ha deforestation

Controle ontbossing 2013-2017
Comparison 2013 and 2017 kaart
● 9.008 polygons checked (6,4%)
● 7.625 ha deforestation checked (37,7%)

Check deforestation 2013-2017
Check on the basis of aerial photos:
1: Correct
● 11: temporary forest
● 12: conversion to other nature areas
● 13: deforestation, but before 2013
2: Not correct
● 21: border effect
● 22: border along road/bike road
● 23: was misclassified as forest before
● 24: wood harvesting
● 26: high voltage line
3: Not certain
4: Part of polygon correct, part incorrect

Monitoring land-use change
Mapping land use is not very difficult
Comparing changes in total areas of different land uses is also doable!
Spatial explicit monitoring of land-use changes over time according approach 3 is very challenging
