INTRODUCTION

Agriculture crops need nutrients in there correct proportions in order

to grow healthy.

The most important of these are nitrates, phosphates and potasium

(NPK)

Also, some cations and anions are required in small quantities

(Cu,I,Fe).

Most Farmers use chemical fertilizers such as ammonium sulphate and

ammonium phosphate to improve the fertility of soils.

However, usage of chemical fertilizers alters the pH of the soil hence

there is the need to use environmentally friendly fertilizer to enrich soilfertility.

In this study we are going to consider agriculture fertilizer

manufactured from poultry ash which can easily be transformed into

humus.

Poultry ash includes faecal matter from rared birds and other wastes.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Use of artificial fertilizer ammonium sulphate and ammonium

phosphate ( ( NH)SO and (NH)PO ) for soil fertility byfarmers pose a danger to the soil mineral content.

It can also bring about acidity to the soil whereas nitrates and

phosphates from chemical fertilizers when released to natural water

bodies can cause eutrophication.

AIM

To manufacture agriculture fertilizer using poultry ash as a more

environmentally friendly soil nutrient additive for farmers.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

To understand how the nutrition value of the soil can be improved

by applying agriculture fertilizer from poultry ash.

To prevent complete drying and caking of the ash, the temperature

should be maintained between 323 K and 328 K for the first few days

and it should be mixed or turned on regular schedule.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

To optimize nutrient supply to the soil the size of the poultry ash

should be reduced to almost powder form for easy conversion tohumus and aeration to oxygen.

HYPOTHESIS

The use of poultry ash to manufacture fertilizer can improve soil

fertility with less harm on soil acidity.

PROBLEM JUSTIFICATION

With a lot of farmers in Zambia practicing poultry farming,

nutrient rich poultry ash availability has increased hence the need forits positive use to enrich the fertility of the soil.

METHODOLOGY

Poultry ash would be collected weighing about two hundred grams

from a poultry in riverside were chickens which are ready for resale have

been removed.

Receiving,sorting,separation,size reduction will be done on site

The next step is the drying of the poultry ash in the open air

The last step would be product preparation and marketing. This step

may include fine grinding,bagging,storage,transportion and in some cases

direct market.

METHODOLOGY

At this stage the ash will be ready for use that is it is spread in

vegetable beds watered together as fertilizer and the growth ismonitored to observe the change in the health of the vegetables.
