Show Highlights� rough the years the Minnesota Harvest Horse Show has been a beloved tradition. � is year we’ve got a new look and feel, we’ve added some fun new entertainment and events, and more than $88,000 in prize monies!

On Friday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 there’s a Competitor’s Party and kick-off of a silent auction to benefi t We Can Ride. Board the free shuttle to the University of Minnesota Leatherdale Equine Center for complimentary food and beverages.

Take note. We’ve changed the schedule. � e Infi nity Direct Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic will take place around noon on Friday. � en, on Friday Night the $5,000 Purina Hunter Spectacular takes the prime time spot. With jumps decorated by Bejing Olympics ring decorator Flora Baptiston, it promises to be a gorgeous and festive evening.

Expect more spectators in the stands on Friday night. We’ve created a community outreach event for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at the University of Minnesota’s Leatherdale Equine Center on Sunday October 4th (the weekend before MHHS). We’ll give away 2,000 tickets to Scout horse enthusiasts for Friday night.

And on Saturday night, October 10th, fi rst, celebrate with friends at the Sponsor Dinner. � en right before the $30,000 Nutrena Grand Prix of Minnesota, join Cheryl Kaye from the Kevin and Cheryl morning show on 102.9 Lite FM for the fi rst annual Ariat Jumping with the Stars! Come root for your favorite celebrity/trainer team! And, during the Prix, before changes to the course for the jump-off round, join Bob Sansevere, from 92 KQRS, and his family for a demonstration of their enchanting miniature horses.

On Sunday, look for a new $4,000 Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Stake right after the $5,000 Harvest Rising Stars.

USEF membership statementLife, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level, Dressage, Reining and vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent, coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions upon payment of a $30 nonmember registration fee. Participants in the following classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes. I will accept as final the decision of the Hearing Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to release and hold harmless the competition, the Federation, their officials, directors and employees for any action taken under the Rules. liability/loss/injuryNeither the sponsor beneficiary, show grounds, show committee or show management or their respective officers will be liable for 1) injuries sustained in any way to exhibitors, spectators, vendors, sub-contractors or employees; 2) any article of any kind or nature that may be lost, destroyed, stolen or injured in any manner – although every precaution will be undertaken to protect the property of the exhibitors; 3) any loss or damage that may occur to any horse on the grounds. Every horse entered for competition will be under the control of the horse show management. By participating in the show in any way, to include spectator, exhibitor, rider, trainer, agent, or employee or agent of any of the above agree to hold the show and their officials, the beneficiary, the USEF and their officials, directors, employees and agents harmless for any injury or loss suffered during or in connection with the show whether or not such injury or loss resulted directly or indirectly from the negligent acts or omissions of said officials, directors, employees or agents of the show, the beneficiary, or the USEF. horse registration numbersAll horses competing in Federation non-breed restricted licensed competitions with hunter, hunter breeding, jumper and hunter seat equitation classes (except those activities enumerated in GR 901.9, items 1-9) must be properly identified and must obtain a Registration Number from the USHJA. A registration number for each horse must be entered on all entry forms for licensed competitions. Only one Horse Registration Number will be issued per horse, and must remain with the horse throughout its career. Anyone knowingly applying for a duplicate Registration Number for an individual horse may be subject to disciplinary action. The Federation and/or USHJA as applicable must be notified of any change of ownership and/or competition name of the horse. Owners are requested to notify the Federation and/or the USHJA as applicable of corrections to previously submitted information, e.g., names, addresses, breed registration, pedigree, or markings. Applications for Registration Numbers can be completed online at www.ushja.org or www.usef.org using the Horse Registration application form. motorized vehicles USEF Rule GR1301.7. Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside, will NOT be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle on the grounds of a recognized competition. This includes, but is not limited to golf carts, motorcycles, scooters and farm utility vehicles. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parents or guardians, and/or trainers from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of these individuals in accordance with Chapter vII. ring/exhibitor conductIf the courtesy circle is restricted, it shall be announced, and also be indicated on the course diagram. A corresponding barrier will be erected in the arena. If said restrictions are not observed, the rider shall be disqualified. Jumping orders will be computer drawn and posted at the in-gate. Post entries will be added to the top of the jump order.

Professionals — Please read this and inform your customers that exhibitor numbers will not be issued by the secretary until entry forms are correctly and completely filled out and arrangements for payment are completed.

Parents — If not accompanying minor, please send permission for medical treatment (responsibility for care) with trainer or responsible adult.

attire and equipmentIt is compulsory for riders in all Hunter, Jumper and Hunt Seat Equitation classes, and Paso Fino classes, both open and breed restricted including Hunter Hack, where jumping is required and when jumping anywhere on the competition

grounds, to wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness secured. A show committee member must bar riders without protective headgear from entering the ring for classes in which protective headgear is required and may bar any entry or person from entering the ring if not suitably presented to appear before an audience.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Entries postmarked after September 20, 2009 will be considered late entries and a one time late fee of $50.00 per horse will be charged. Post entries close at the start of the preceding class. The office will accept no entries on Sunday after 9:00 a.m. Same horse ineligible to enter both split portions of a section. Show office hours:

Proof of negative coggins required for all horses within 12 months. This must be presented before numbers will be

given out. This is a Minnesota state law.

trainer splitsMidstates Horse Shows offer a service to trainers that allows the trainer to purchase shavings, feed, tack stalls, etc. directly from the Horse Show and then split the total amount for some or all of these items and have it charged directly to their client’s horse show bill. Any horse show secretary can assist the trainer in this process. Trainer splits will be accepted until noon on Friday (no exceptions) of each show week. Please advise your clients that these charges will appear on their show bill. Only dollar amounts will be split (not quantities) and totals will be rounded up to the next whole dollar amount. Trainers are reminded that this is a service provided by the Horse Show and that doing splits in a timely manner is their responsibility. Additionally, any splits uncollected from the client will revert back to the trainer for payment.

Dog owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under Chapters 6 & 7, as well as issuance of warning cards. No dogs or other pets will be permitted in the colesium.

ring/exhibitor conductIf the courtesy circle is restricted, it shall be announced, and also be indicated on the course diagram. A corresponding barrier will be erected in the arena. If said restrictions are not observed, the rider shall be disqualified. Jumping orders will be computer drawn and posted at the in-gate. Post entries will be added to the top of the jump order.

Professionals — Please read this and inform your customers that exhibitor numbers will not be issued by the secretary until entry forms are correctly and completely filled out and arrangements for payment are completed.

attire and equipmentIt is compulsory for riders in all Hunter, Jumper and Hunt Seat Equitation classes, and Paso Fino classes, both open and breed restricted including Hunter Hack, where jumping is required and when jumping anywhere on the competition

grounds, to wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with harness secured. A show committee member must bar riders without protective headgear from entering the ring for classes in which protective headgear is required and may bar any entry or person from entering the ring if not suitably presented to appear before an audience.

Entries postmarked after September 20, 2009 will be considered late entries and a one time late fee of $50.00 per horse will be charged. Post entries close at the start of the preceding class. Proof of negative coggins required for all horses within 12 months. This must be presented before numbers will be

given out. This is a Minnesota state law.

trainer splitsMidstates Horse Shows offer a service to trainers that allows the trainer to purchase shavings, feed, tack stalls, etc. directly from the Horse Show and then split the total amount for some or all of these items and have it charged directly to their client’s horse show bill. Any horse show secretary can assist the trainer in this process. Trainer splits will be accepted until noon on Friday (no exceptions) of each show week. Please advise your clients that these charges will appear on their show bill. Only dollar amounts will be split (not quantities) and totals will be rounded up to the next whole dollar amount. Trainers are reminded that this is a service provided by the Horse Show and that doing splits in a timely manner is their responsibility. Additionally, any splits uncollected from the client will revert back to the trainer for payment.

Please note: Only amounts billed by the horse show to the trainer may be included in the split. Reception tickets may be included in trainer splits.

dog ownersUSEF Rule GR1301.6. Dogs are not permitted to be loose on the competition grounds and must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Individuals must not lead dogs on a leash whle mounted. Dog owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under Chapters 6 & 7, as well as issuance of warning cards. No dogs or other pets will be permitted in the colesium.

Reminder for computer list classes! Riders need to designate their “computer list” horse.

Please remember that in Computer List classes where riders are permitted to ride more than one horse, the rider will designate their “Computer List” horse prior to the start order being determined, and ride that horse first in the competition. For riders who do not designate their “Computer List” horse prior to the start order being determined, his/her “Computer List” horse will be the first horse he/she rides in the competition.

This class is to be judged and scored under USEF Table 2.2 (a) or Section 3. In the event there are more than 20 starters, this class will be conducted under Table 2.2 (a) with only ties for first place returning for the jump-off. If possible, five (5) horses must separate any two horses shown by the same rider. Horses must be entered for this class by Friday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. The order of go for the class will be drawn at 10:00 a.m. in the secretary’s office on Saturday, October 10, 2009. All horses competing in this class must be on the show grounds for the twenty four hour period prior to the scheduled start of the class. The show committee requests that all participants be formally attired. Ribbons and prize money to twelve (12) places. Please plan on a victory gallop. Minimum speed 382 yards per minute. National Level.

$500 rotating pair costume relay entry Fee: $60.00Class 342 0.95mThis competition is for teams of two. A horse can only compete once in this class, but a rider may compete on more than one horse. The entire course must be jumped twice in the correct order by either competitor. The competitor who crosses the start line must jump the first obstacle and the competitor who jumps the last obstacle must cross the finish line. Height of fences to be 0.95m. See USEF Rule JP149.5 for complete specifications.
