    HEADACHE

    The tribals prepare

    paste of several herbal

    plants and apply themon fore head for obtaining quick relief from severe pain. The paste of

    Zingiber offficanilis Ross (Dry Ginger) is applied on forehead for 2-3-days

    for relief in headache. The mucilage of leaves Aloe barbadensis Mill. (Ghrita

    Kanwar) is applied on forehead for a week to cure severe headaches. The

    paste prepared of Santalum album Linn.(sandal wood) is also applied to cure

    headache. A bandage is tied with leaves of Vitex negunda Linn. for obtaining

    relief in pain in the scalp region of forehead.

    FEVER

    Asparagus racemosa Willd Cassia tora Linn Bauhinia purpurea Linn.

    The root and tuber decoction of Asparagus racemosa Willd (Shatavri) isprepared by the tribal medicine- man and given to patient twice a day of fora period of five to six days. In case of high fever pods of Cassia tora Linn.(Charota) are collected and seeds are crushed. The seed extract is boiledand filtered with a piece of cloth and given to patient twice a day for abouta week.The stem and bark decoction is prepared of Bauhinia purpureaLinn. (Kelor bhaji)and given twice a day to patients for control ofintermittent fever and fever with acute body pain.The leaves and stem ofCuscuta reflexa Roxb. (Akashbeal) is boiled with water and vapours areinhaled to cure body pain and swellings.

    ASTHMA

    Calotropis procera Calotropis gigantean

    When cold, cough and bronchitis persists for longer period patients sufferfrom asthma. The paste prepared from rhizome of Curcuma longa Linn

    ( Kali haldi) is applied externally on lungs and affected part s to cure

    asthma . The flowers of Calotropis procera ( Willd .) ex. W. Ait (Maddar)

    and Calotropis gigantean ( Linn.) R.Br. ex. W.Ait ( Aak) are dried ,

    powdered and decoction is prepared . The filtered decoction liquid is given50 ml thrice a day for atleast forthnight to patient suffering from acute case

    of asthma. Rhizome of A. calamus is also chewed for obtaining relief in

    asthma.

    HEALING OF WOUNDS AND SKIN INFECTION

    Argemone mexicana Argyreia nervosa

    The skin of small children and women of tribal community isnormally delicate and sensitive . In case if the skin is exposed due to

    cut, it gradually filled with mucus and the pain persits on wound.

    Traditional medicine man of tribals apply latex extracted from

    leaves, stem of Argemone mexicana Linn. ( Pilli - Katai ) on

    infected skin for cure and healing of wounds. The root paste ofArgyreia nervosa ( Burm .f. ) Boj ( Ghabel) is also applied on

    wounds developed as eruption on skin.

    COLD COUGH BRONCHITIS

    Amaranthus tricolor Tamarandus indica Acorus calamus Acacia catechu

    Tribals use many plants for cure of cold, cough and bronchitis. Fruits ofAmaranthus tricolor Linn. ( Arak gandhiri) and Tamarandus indica Linn. (Imli) and rhizomes of Acorus calamus Linn ( Safed Buch) are chewed bytribals for cure of cold and cough. The decoction of A. calamus Linn (Safed Buch) rhizome is prepared which is filtered with cloth and half cup

    of it is given to drink for atleast a forthnight to patients suffering fromacute case of bronchitis. The bark decoction of Acacia catechu Willd. (Khair ) half cup thrice a day for atleast one week is also given to patients

    suffering from bronchitis.

    Himalayan Tahr

    The meat is believed to be a

    promoter of strength and virility

    (usually that of the tail). The

    soup of the bones (of the limbs)

    is principally given to the womenfolk immediately after giving birth to

    a child, and usually during the parturition and lactating months. In

    addition the horns are kept atop the homes to ward off the evil. It has

    been observed by the villagers that the thar usually eats up the snakesfound in the temperate zone, and thus the usual belief that eating its

    meat results in miraculous benefits.

    Musk Deer

    Musk is used in the treatment of malaria, high fever and inheart ailments. The lactating mother are given a pinch of

    kasturi-the musk with the belief that the children receiving

    thy milk become immune to diseases, i.e. the musk is believed

    to bolster the immune system in children.

    SNAKES

    The meat is believed to promote eyesight and facilitates the

    elimination of urine, stool and flatus. The skin is often fed to

    cattle in foot and mouth disease. The very act of seeing a

    snake swallowing a frog symbolizes the death of a near kin or

    a relative in near future.

    LEOPARD

    The meat is believed to be a promoter of strength and virility,

    while the bones are supposed to be an aphrodisiac. Wherever

    possible the burnt hair is applied in the treatment of foot and

    mouth disease. In addition the fat is used as massaging oil in

    the treatment of body pain.

    HIMALAYAN BLACK BEAR

    The animal is mainly killed for its gall black bear bladder,

    which is used for curing myriad diseases, malaria being one of

    them. The fresh gall bladder is filled with rice grains and then

    is left to dry out. After few days a yellowish powder is formed,

    which is used as medicine. The dried powder can be kept forrelatively longer period of time.
