    The Librarians Message

    The Govt.First Grade College, Arkalgud, Library one of the Best

    College Libraries. It started its function with a vision to serve the

    information needs of its users mainly holds books and Journals to Arts,

    Commerce, management and allied subjects.

    Govt.First Grade College, Arkalgud established its library in the

    year of 1993. and Govt.First Grade College, Arkalgud (1984) The

    Librarys amazing rich collection is well utilized by Staffs and

    Students.GOVT.FIRST GRADE COLLEGE,ARKALGUD Library and

    Information center works with vision of the Institute honoring the

    commitment to spread knowledge. The librarys dedicated staff and

    Librarian are the navigators of knowledge.

    Hope the Staffs and Students make full use of the opportunities

    provided by the well-equipped Library and reach greater heights in

    their career as well as their life.

    1. OBJECTIVES:-

    The primary purpose of the library is to serve the faculty and students

    of the Institute; it acts as a center for the collection of literatures,

    predominately related to Arts, Commerce, management and its allied

    subject. It aims to develop a comprehensive collection of information

    that is useful for faculty and students. It ensures that information

    resources are acquired and organizes to meet the present and future

    information needs of its user.

    2. LOCATION: -The library in housed on Ground floor of the Main Building (Institution)

    3. LAYOUT: -

    The total collection of documents is arranged subject wise. The library

    has reading section Issue counter, textbook section reference section,

    and periodicals section,

    4. WORKING HOURS:-

    The Library is open from 10-00am to 5-00pm in all weekdays except

    during the National Holidays and Sundays.

    5. DOCUMENT RESOURCES:

    The Library has a total collection of about 25,000, periodicals

    Reference Books, Cds, Maps.

    6. COLLECTION ARRANGEMENT:-

    Readers have open access to most of the holding of the Library

    a) Books

    New books acquired are classified and catalogued using the

    AACR-2 (Anglo American Cataloguing Rules-2).New books after

    processing are displayed for 10 days for reference and reservation,

    and put in to Circulation, after the stipulated period. A reader arranges

    books according to subject for easy access.

    b) Current Periodicals

    The Library receives about 21 National Journals are

    arranged area sector wise in the Library (This is only for

    reference).

    d) News Papers

    The Library receives 3 News Papers, which are as follows:

    1, Deccan Herald

    2, Times of India

    3, Vijaya karnataka

    They are displayed in the Reading Section

    7. CIRCULATION SECTION:-

    The Library follows a combined system of the maintenance Register

    for the documents to borrowers card each student can get 5

    borrowers ticket. For issue of books the borrowers should present the

    book along with their borrowers ticket to the staff at the circulation

    counter. He/she should sign the issue register before the presentation.

    After necessary checking the library staff will issue the book by writing

    the due date in the issue register book should be brought physically to

    the library circulation desk for issuing and returning with renewals.

    User can reserve books and get such information as to whom a book is

    used when it is due list of books that are issued to particular borrowers

    etc:

    a) Borrowing facility:

    1. Books and other documents are issued from the issue counter

    between 10-30am to 5-00 pm only

    2. Books are normally issued for15 days to Students and other

    Teaching staff for 30 days. Books can be recalled incase of an

    urgent demand for the same by other members.

    b) Condition of Loan:

    1. Library tickets are not transferable.

    2. The borrower is fully responsible for the books borrowed inhis/her ticket

    3. Absence and illness are not an acceptable excuse for exception

    from paying overdue charge. In calculating the over due charges

    only Institute holidays are left out of the reckoning. If the due

    date falls on an Institute holiday. The book may be returned on

    the next working day without any over due charges.

    4. The Librarian may recall a book at any time before its due date.

    He/she may increase the over dues charge for failure to return a

    book when it is due or recalled.

    5. If student do not renew or return the book issued against their

    name with in a three of it due date their borrowing facility may

    be with drawn for a fortnight.

    6. If the Librarian considers that a borrower has not returned the

    books with in a reasonable time of its due date as indicated in

    the recall notice, or in the book card as the case may be the

    borrowers is liable to pay for the book plus the prescribed

    overdue charge.

    7. If a book belonging to a set is lost, the borrowers will be charged

    for replacing that entire set.

    8. Incase students lose the book issued to them they should report

    it immediately in writing to the Librarian. to avoid accumulation

    of fine .they will be allowed a grace period of the a week to

    confirm the loss in writing to initiate and also about the process

    of recovering the cost of the books incase they produce the book

    after the grace period they will have to pay the prescribed fine

    the library service will be also stand terminated until they settle

    their arrears whether for the loss or as a fine.

    c) Overdue:

    An amount of re1:00 is collected as overdue Charge per

    day.

    d) Reservations:

    Reservations for more than one book will be issued according to

    priority. Resreved books are kept separately in the Issue Counter

    for three days for each member the reservation Lapses

    automatically after three days. And the Next person on the list of

    Reservation gets priority.

    e) Renewals:

    1, Loans are renewable provided there is no demand for the

    material by other member.

    2, Books have to be produced at the time of renewal

    f) Reminders:

    1, Reminder are issued to return books on expiring of the

    due date.

    2, for students a List of over dues are notified on the

    Library notice board for their information and clearing the due

    immediately.

    g) Issue of periodicals:

    Current journals are not issued out.

    h) Borrowers Tickets:

    1, Member will be given as only one borrowers ticket as the

    number of books they are affixed to their borrowers tickets for

    identification and non-Transfer or tickets.

    2, If borrowers tickets get mutilated for whatever reason, If has

    to be reported. at the issue counter where a new one will be issued.

    3, Loss of borrowers ticket should be reported in writing to the

    Librarian immediately. A fresh duplicate ticket will be issued by the

    Librarian. After an interval of 7 days from the date of application by

    paying Rs.25/- per tickets.

    4, although the library takes all possible care against the misuse

    of

    Tickets. Members are responsible for any loss to the library due to

    the misuse of their tickets.

    5,while returning books to the Library members must see to it

    that their

    tickets are duly re collected

    8. ADMISSION TO THE LIBRARY

    All members are required do deposit their personal

    belongings at the property counter. at their own risk. The

    Library will not be responsible for any losses are damage

    to the same. Taking briefcase or bag inside the Library is

    strictly forbidden. User should let the security, Cheek their

    personal belongings like books, files, etc., before they

    leave the library premises.

    9. TECHINICAL PROCESSING OF DOCUMENTS:

    a) Classification:

    Classification is translating the Specific of Documents in to

    nation. This user the Dewey Decimal Classification.

    b) Catalogue:

    Books are catalogue as per Anglo American Catalogue Rules-

    2(AACR-2)

    1. Library books and journals project reports.etc. are Costly

    and often-rare one should not write upon, damage, turn

    down the leaves or mark on any library materials.

    2. No tracing or copying of any map book journals is allowed

    in the library before leaving the Issue Counter member

    should satisfy themselves a to whether the library

    materials lent to them is in sound condition.

    3. If not, they should immediately bring the matter to

    knowledge of the library staff at the issue counter.

    Otherwise which they are liable to be held responsible for

    replacing the material or paying such compensation as

    fixed by the librarian.

    11. CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE:

    Borrowers tickets are property of library. At the end of the

    period of Issue, all those who leave the institute, whether

    for good for cant in a time being on leave, etc.

    Must surrender their tickets to the library and a NO DUES

    Certificate from the Librarian, in order to ensure that they

    owe no dues to the library including any Over due charges,

    should be letter

    a. Smoking is prohibited in and around the library or institute

    and hospital premises.

    b. No refreshments or foodstuff of any kind shall be

    Consumed anywhere inside the library.

    c. Keeping in mind that the Library is a place of Individual

    study to be maintained peace and silence within the

    library premises.

    d. Suggestions for purchasing books and improving the

    library services are Welcome.

    e. The librarian has the power to Cancel the tickets and

    refuse admission to any one who violates the rules and

    regulation of the library.

    f. Library materials should be handled with utmost care

    nobody should write damage or make mark on any of the

    library materials.
