    8 ENGINE STARTING

    Before starting the machine always check:

    The oil level in the air filter if this is in oilbath. Usually the machine is sold WITHOUT

    oil by transport reason.

    The oil level in the engine and in the gear boxby its dip-stick.

    The air filter is well clean. All screws and nuts are well tightened. All levers are in neutral position idle point-. The clutch lever has a little play. There is fuel in the tank.

    Before using the machine refer always to the ENGINE USE AND MAINTENANCE BOOKLET!

    The hole on the tanks plug is open. The refuel must be done when the engine is

    stopped by a funnel provided with a very thick

    net to avoid the introduction of impurities.

    Before starting the engine pay attention not

    to have walls or obstacles in front or behind

    you.

    - 5 -

    Pull the clutch lever and block it with its motorstop

    device. Close the air to the carburettor (starter),

    open the fuel tap, place the gas throttle at half gas

    and energically pull the small rope of the recoil

    starter.

    WORK STARTING

    Carefully inspect the field you have to work and

    take off any foreign thing (iron, wires ,stones,

    glasses, etc.) dangerous for the machine that may

    break and have brusque reactions.

    HOW STARTING THE MACHINE

    When the engine is running cut the starter out .

    Let the engine warning for some minutes

    before starting working.

    9 DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTROLS

    Referring to the picture on right side:

    1. Clutch lever: placed on the left of thehandlebar, disengaged the engine from the

    transmission; to be used when you engage

    the speeds or the p.t.o. or when you switch

    the engine off. To start the machine, pull and

    block the clutch by the relevant device placed

    in the inner part of the lever together with the

    red lever of motorstop. With engine running

    the lever must be lightly pulled for its

    disengagement.

    2. Engine-stop-lever (red): placed on the leftof handlebar, above the clutch lever. Its a

    safety device that stops immediately the

    engine, every time its necessary, simply it

    releasing. Starting the machine, the engine-

    stop-lever must be locked together with theclutch lever keeping it always down in order

    to get the engine running.

    3. Throttle lever, on the right of handlebar.This is to increase or to reduce the r.p.m. of

    the engine (power).By pushing down the

    r.p.m. increases, in the opposite way (by

    pulling it up) reduces.

    4. Disengagement wheels lever:placed on theright side of handlebar, it is necessary to

    disengage wheels from transmission; This

    makes easier the displacement of the machine

    when the engine is stopped. Dont use itabsolutely like clutch in order to stop the

    machine in running.

    5. P.T.O. lever, placed on the right side underthe handlebar. It is to engage (by pushing it

    ahead) or disengage (by pulling it towards

    the operator) the P.T.O. A safety device

    stops the tiller engagement in case the

    reverse speed is fitted in and doesnt allow

    the engagement of the reverse speed in case

    the tiller is fitted in, too. This lever has

    always to be used pulling the clutch.

    6. Reversing rod,placed on the left side underthe handlebar, necessary to change the speed

    direction. By pulling it towards the operator

    the machine, used as motocultivator, goes

    ahead: on the contrary , by pushing it ahead,

    the machine goes backwards. The forward

    speed, used as motocultivator, is slower than

    the reverse speed , used as motor mower .

    - 6 -

    7. Handlebar-block handgriff: it serves tofix the handlebar in the best position for the

    work. Unscrewing it , it is possible to

    change the handlebar position up or down

    or sideway, as the handlebar may turn on

    itself. Got the position you want, tighten

    the handgriff again.

    8. Handlebars support handgriff: it servesto fix the handlebars support to thegearbox. By unscrewing the handgriff the

    support may turn on itself for 180

    (machine reversibility). Once got the right

    position of work, tighten this one again. To

    turn the support of 180, the reversing and

    the P.T.O. rods must be taken away and

    then must be put again.

    9. Oil cap: to be used to put the engine oil in.10.Oil caps: to be used for level checking and

    filler.

    11.Recoil starter.

    The machine is normally delivered packed

    into a carton with or without accessories that

    may be packed into other cartons due to their

    dimensions.

    To prepare the machine do in this way:

    Helped by right instruments, take the machineaway from the carton ; put the handlebar in

    the position you want and fix it with its

    handgriff.

    The engine is already full with oil. On thecontrary a yellow ticket tell you that the

    engine is without oil.

    If engine is equipped with an air filter in oilbath, fill its small box with oil SAE 20-40 as

    far as the level shown on it. Due to the

    transport, the filter is delivered without oil.

    Machine used as walking-tractor

    - put the handlebar opposite to the engine;

    - lubricate or grease the engagement coupling

    (male part) of the tiller;

    - take away the fixing pin placed on the body-

    machine.

    - insert the tiller coupling inside the body-

    machine, keeping the axle of the P.T.O shaft with

    the same inclination of the tiller shaft. Insert it

    completely putting the lock pin in the lower part

    and fixing it by its cotter pin.

    The machine may be equipped with tractor

    tired wheels or cage wheels.

    If you turn the handlebar support or take away the

    wheels, pay attention to the right direction that they

    must have ,as shown in the side picture.

    Make a good running-in of the engine and of themachine (at least for 10 hours dont use more than

    70% of the engine power).

    Always use the clutch before operating any levers orrods.

    Dont keep too much the clutch disengaged. Never use much strength when you fit levers and

    rods as it is possible to damage the machine. If it is

    difficult the engagement of levers and rods, move

    the machine with wheels engaged or make a light

    pressure on those levers or rods hard to be engaged. Keep the handlebar joint clean and oiled.

    10 WORK STARTING

    Machine used as motormower

    - adjust the handlebar in a way to have them

    above the engine.

    - fit the cutting bar to its mower set by using the

    4 available screws.

    - lubricate with oil or better with grease the

    engagement coupling (male) of the mowing bar ;

    - take away the fixing pin placed on the body-

    machine.

    - insert the coupling of the mowing set inside the

    body-machine, keeping the axle of the P.T.O

    shaft with the same inclination of the mowingbar shaft. Insert it completely putting the lock

    pin in the lower part and fixing it by its cotter

    pin.

    DURING THIS ACTION KEEP ALWAYS

    ON THE BLADE ITS GUARD.Never use much strength when you fit the

    accessories as it is possible to damage the

    centring ring and the engagement manifold.

    Never press the engine; when you see somesmoke coming out from the exhaust pipe ,

    the engine is under stress.

    Never work for long periods at maximumpower, especially in hot periods.

    Periodically check the pressure of tyres (1,3Atm ).

    Never leave the machine under the rain.

    11 RULES FOR A GOOD WORKING OF THE MACHINE

    - 7 -

  • 7/31/2019 User's Manual GB MTC601 10-04 GB

    9/13

    12 - MAINTENANCE

    LUBRICANTS

    - 8 -

    To ensure the efficiency of the machine is necessary

    a good maintenance and a perfect lubrication. The

    machine is normally delivered packed into a cartonwithout engine oil, as clearly indicated on the yellow

    ticket applied on the engine itself.

    ENGINEFollow strictly the instructions indicated in the book

    of ENGINES USE AND MAINTENANCE .

    Its necessary to check the oil level every 5 working

    hours and replace it every 50 hours. Use SAE 40 oil

    in summer and SAE 20 in winter. The first oil change

    must be done after 10 working hours.

    Check the air filter is clean specially if you work on

    dusty soil.

    GEARBOXCheck the oil level every 50 working hours taking the

    plug of the gearbox cage off and keeping the machine

    horizontal.

    If necessary, add oil SAE 80-90.

    Bear in mind it is better to change oil at least once a

    year.

    CUTTING BAREvery 4 working hours grease the internal part of

    the blade head. Every 10 working hours grease the

    bush of the eccentric gear.

    Every 20 working hours grease the coupling between

    the machine and its cutting bar.

    ROTARY TILLERCheck all the blades screws are well tightened and

    change oil in the tiller carter at least once a year. The

    oil must completely fill the carter (cl. 250 ).

    Use SAE 80-90 oil.

    The used and waste oils must be discharged

    according to rules in force in the country where

    the machine is utilised.

    MAINTENANCE AT THE END OF SEASON

    BEFORE LEAVING THE MACHINE IDLEFOR A LONG TIME, IT IS NECESSARY:

    To wash it outside with gasoline; to replace the

    engine oil and those one of the gearbox and of the

    body-tiller;

    To empty and clean the fuel tank and clean or

    replace the air filter;

    To oil and grease all the joints and mechanisms;

    To replace or repair the damaged parts;To lubricate the cylinder with engine oil through

    the spark plug hole by letting the piston running

    several times ,by pulling the rope of the starter;

    To leave the machine in a sheltered place with

    wheels on wooden tables or, even better, well

    uplifted from the floor.

    POSSIBLE TROUBLES AND THEIR SOLUTIONS

    Little problems that the operator can directly solve.

    THE ENGINE DOESNT START; CHECK

    THAT:

    enough fuel is in the tank, at least more than a

    half of the tank capacity;

    the gasoline plug is open;

    if the engine is cold, to pull the starter;

    the fuel arrives at the carburettor;

    the leaking hole on fuel tank is not close;

    the carburettor jets are open, if not, clean them by

    an air jet.

    The spark plug gives ignition (ATTENTION!HIGH TENSION). To make this checking ,

    unscrew the spark plug; connect it again to the

    tension wire , lean the metal part of the spark

    plug against the engine cylinder and make the

    pulley turn like for starting. If you dont see any

    sparkles between the electrodes, check the cable

    joints , on the contrary replace the spark plug with

    another one of the same type. If even now you

    dont get positive results, the damage probably is

    in the electrical installation (sparkling plug points,

    condenser, coil etc.). In this case it is better to

    contact the nearest service centre of the engine

    fitted on the machine.
