INTRODUCTION 1

1 INTRODUCTION The Datalogic Application Manager™ is a desktop application for Windows CE .NET, allowing Datalogic Portable Data Terminals to run in Kiosk mode by selecting the application(s) to be published to the user. The Kiosk mode is a feature of the Kiosk information systems, the computer based terminals used to provide information or services, typically in public places, such as museums, libraries, airports, etc. When a system is run in Kiosk mode only one or few applications are available. If the autorun parameter is enabled, when the device is reset, the application is automatically re-started. In this way the terminal works as an application-specific device, not as a multi-purpose device. Datalogic Application Manager™ prevents the user from leaving the application and interacting with the operating system, or accessing the Task Bar or Start Menu. This feature is very important in Windows-based devices also to prevent users from changing terminal parameters. It is possible to exit the Application Manager™ to modify any necessary system setting by pressing the [ESC] key and entering a password. The main features are:

• Password protected exit (no password by default)

• Application selection, including Datalogic DL TCL-NET™ and Locked Web Browser™ (these Datalogic applications are set by default)

• TaskBar (terminal status bar) optionally visible

• TaskBar optionally enabled

• Start button optionally enabled

• Auto-run of Application Manager™

• Auto-run of one single application
