The IMPERFECT is used for past actions that are not seen as completed. It also refers to actions that you (used to/would do) or would do repeatedly/habitually in the past. Use of the imperfect tense implies that the past action did not have a definite beginning or end.

Ex: We would eat lunch together every day.

The ladies would always chat in the mornings.

Conjugation forms

To conjugate verbs in the imperfect, simply drop the (-ar, -er, or –ir) ending and add the following:

U-TOADSTEW (imperfect)

U= Used to/ habitual Yo iba al cine todos los viernes. Yo trabajaba en Target cuando era joven.

T=thoughts or feelings (attitudes, and beliefs) Estaba enojada con su madre.

O=ongoing/circumstance/ action in the past with no reference to its beginning or end. (was/were + -ing) form of verb. Caminaba por el parque … or Mateo esperaba en In-N-Out

A=age Tenía 20 años.

D=descriptions of people, places, situations, and the physical state of an object. La ventana estaba abierta. La playa estaba sucia.

S= setting or scene description (background information, such as the time, the weather, and the location)

E= emotion/ mental/ state of mind Tenía miedo del doctor. No quería ir.

Hay y GUSATR

Hay dos formas de HAY y GUSTAR:

Hay= Había Y Habían EJ: Había mucha tarea en la clase ayer. Habían muchos chicos en la clase. GUSTAR= Gustaba y Gustaban
