    THE LEADERS

    Robert E. Lee Albert Sidney Johnston

    He was a leader of theArmy in NorthernVirginia, and lead hisarmy to the series ofvictories over the betterequipments the Unionhad. He was defeatedat the Battle ofGettysburg.

    During the MexicanWar, he was a leader of

    Texas confederacy army.

    He was known for the

    second best general

    after Robert E. Lee, but

    he died at the battle of

    Shiloh.

    Lewis Addison Armistead

    He was a Confederate general in the Army of

    North Virginia. At the battle of Gettysburg, he

    helped to lead the frontal attack known as

    Picketts Charge. In hid death, he was shot and

    wounded more than once, so his death was

    immortalized in a movie called Gettysburg.

    THE BATTLES

    The Battle of GettysburgThis battle is known for the

    largest number of casualities in

    the American War. General

    Robert E.Lee had a plan to move

    to the Gettysburg if the Union

    army began pressing them. Lee

    fought on the Confederacy side

    fought. Despite Lees smart

    fighting strategy, the Union won

    this battle.

    The Battle of ShilohThis battle was fought in 1862 in

    southeastern Tennessee.

    Confederate forces under General

    Albert Sidney Johnson and P. G. T.

    Beauregard had a surprise attack by

    the union forces. The Confederates

    achieved a great success on the firstday, but they were defeated by the

    Union on the second day and the

    Union won this battle.

    THE BATTLES

    First Battle of Bull Run

    This battle was fought in 1861 in Virginia. It is known for the first

    major land battle in the American Civil War. General Joseph E. Johnston

    and P. G. T. Beauregard arrived from the Shenandoah valley by railroad

    and surprised the Union army. Though the Confederate army soldiers

    were inexperienced, their strong counterattack made the Union armypanicked, and the Confederacy won this battle.

    Minority Group

    Some African-American served in

    the Army as unofficial soldiers.Most women were working at

    organizations, such as hospitals, to

    support the war.

    war was very primative.

    Housing was mostly oftents, and logs were used

    in winter.

    Life on the Home FrontWhile some women supported the war, othersdid not. Those who did help the men in the war did

    a lot of works including sewing garments.
