Using data.census.gov: Basic Mapping
Click on ‘MAPS’ in the upper-left part of the window to switch from
tables to maps.

Using data.census.gov: Customize Map
Click on the CUSTOMIZE MAP button in the upper-right corner
of the window.

Left-click on any state and hit ‘Select’ to add a state.

Alternatively, left-click on any state and hit ‘Deselect’ to remove
the state.

Click on the Rectangle Selection Tool in the lower part of the
window. Right-click on one of the states and hold the mouse to
draw over all states you would like to add.

This is a quick way to select multiple geographies at one time.
Please note that any geography that touches the rectangle will be
added.

To remove a state, remember to left-click on the state and hit
‘Deselect’.

In this example, South Dakota has been deselected.

You can quickly switch between Data Variables, Products, and
Geographies by using the dropdown menu.

Another way to adjust the filters is to select the Filter button located
in the upper left of the screen. This will open the filters menu.

To customize a map, click on the CUSTOMIZE MAP button located in
the upper-right corner.

To apply further customizations, select the cog icon located
beneath the legend.

You can change the color palette, change the number of data
classes, and choose a different classification type.

To generate a table from the map view, click on the VIEW TABLE
button.

This gives you a preview of the map table. To view the full table,
click on the GO TO FULL TABLE button. You can also select the
HIDE button to hide the preview screen.
