CreatingtheFirstClipWearegoingtocreateourfirstclip.ClipperworkswellwithYouTube,whoencouragesoftwaredeveloperstocreateservicesbasedontheYouTubesystem.ClipperalsoworkswellwithanyvideoMP4oraudioMP3filesthatareontheweb,ifyoucanobtaintheirwebaddress(URL),wewillshowyouhowtodothatlaterinthisguide.Inthisguideforourfirst3clipswearegoingtosearchYouTubeforcontent.Tocreateoutfirstclipsweareusingtheterm‘cars’inthe‘Search’fieldhighlightedinredintheimageabove–youcanenteryourownsearchtermsifyoulike.EnteryoursearchtermandthenclickontheYouTubebuttontostartyoursearch.Belowweseetheresultsofourfirstsearchfor‘cars’–NByoursearchresultsmaybedifferent–theyarechangedbyYouTuberegularly

Tomaketheclipfindaplacetostarttheclipandpausethevideoandthenclickontheroundredbutton(shownhighlightedinaredcircle)intheimageabove,indicatingitwillrecordifclicked.Onceweclickontheredbuttonthevideostartstoplayandthestarttimeissaved.Theroundredbuttonnowchangestobecomeasquareredbutton,indicatingthatitwillstoptherecordingifclickedandsavetheendpoint.

Intheimage–belowwehaveselectedashortsectioninthetimelineasshowinthe‘start’and‘stop’boxesfrom00:09:56to00:09:57andenteredthetext‘Cars1-2-3Clip’asthefirstlineinthetextbox–thefirstlineautomaticallybecomethecliptitle.Inthelinebelowthatwehaveenteredthetext‘Mytexthere…’.WehavealsoaddedtwotagsintheTagfield(wordsorphrasesseparatedbycommasbecometags.Oncewearehappywithourclipwecanclickonthe‘SaveClip’buttonandclipwillappearinthelefthand‘Cliplist’column,asshowninthenextimagebelow.Thethumbnailthatappearswitheachclipintheleft-handcolumnisprovidedbyYouTubeandisusuallyfromnearthestartofthevideoitisnotusuallythesamecontentasthestartoftheclipitself.

Cliplists–ChangingtheOrderoftheClipsWecaneasilychangetheorderinwhichtheclipsinaCliplistappear.Wedothisbyselectingaclipintheleft-handcolumnbyhoveringthemouseovertheclipandthenwhilekeepingthemousebuttondepressedwemovethecliptothenewposition.Asyoumovetheclipsyoucanseethisisworkingbecausetheoutlineoftheclipbeingmovedchangestoadottedline.YougetavisualconfirmationthattheclipisreadytobeplacedinanewpositionbecauseanotherclipwillvisiblymovetomakespaceforyoutodroptheclipinitsnewpositionintheCliplist–youdothisbyreleasingthemousebutton.TheneworderoftheCliplistisautomaticallystoredinthedatabase.
