The First Integrated Solution for the Operation of Offshore-Wind Farms

Product Manager
Dear Readers,
Since 2008, we have been active in the field of offshore wind energy and have developed the first integrated software solution for mana-ging offshore-wind farms.
Our BTC | WIND 2.0 product has already been in use at far-offshore- wind farms in the North Sea for several years. Working together with operators and service providers, we have gained valuable experi-ence and have documented the resulting best practices as part of the BMU research project “SystOp Offshore Wind”.
To ensure that wind farm operators can continue to benefit from pro-ven standard operating procedures in the future, we are working constantly on adapting our BTC | WIND 2.0 offshore-management-system to meet the latest industry developments. Our focus is on developing both administrative and technical functions. The use of cloud technology, for example, offers interesting opportunities for reducing IT operational costs.
The key functions of BTC | WIND 2.0 are map views, staff and mea-sure planning featuring weather validation, transport planning and qualification management, plus a convenient analysis and reporting tool that is intuitive to use. The offshore pioneers’ experience and expertise gives all operators a valuable tool in their day-to-day work.
This brochure gives you a brief look at the new version of our soft-ware product BTC | WIND 2.0. For more information or to experi-ence a live demonstration, please contact us.
Yours faithfully,Jörg Ritter Johannes Kratz

The Basis for BTC | WIND 2.0 are the Offshore Processes
The experience gained from the first offshore-wind projects as well as numerous consulting services have been extended to a process model in the scope of the research project “SystOp Off-shore Wind”. For the first time the German Wind Power Plant Model (GWPPM) describes the essential phases of an offshore-wind farm (plan, build, operate and supply) and it has the potential to become an industry standard in the next years.
With the aid of an example process from the GWPPM we would like to give you an insight into the performance capability of BTC | WIND 2.0. The process of “ad hoc repair” guides you through many functions of the software which will support you in your daily business.

An Error has been detected
Event and alarm messages as well as diagnoses and error string identification
| 5WIND 2.0
In the SCADA /network control module of the BTC | WIND 2.0 the event message “fire alarm in the medium-voltage switchgear of the „WTG-02“-wind turbine generator 02 (WEA 02)“ appears. This is ful-ly automatically transferred to the module “Operations”.
The string of errors is then analysed. Here the correct operation of the redundant fire alarm system in the medium voltage switchgear is controlled. Having no further event messages, a fire can be exclu-ded. In this case it is an error of the fire signalling sensor. Therefore a medium priority is given to this error.

Operation and Maintenance Planning
Maintenance schedule, electronic lifetime documentation, resources and qualifications as well as current weather data
| 7WIND 2.0
The electronic lifetime documentation of the wind farm includes the maintenance schedule and all measures performed up to now as well as further detailed information concerning each component. It becomes apparent that the annual inspection of the fire alarm sys-tem in the medium voltage switchgear is due within three months.Previous inspections did not reveal any noteworthy incidents. The Operations Manager decides that the forthcoming inspection of the fire alarm system should be carried out within the scope of the actu-al troubleshooting procedure. In the BTC | WIND 2.0 a new operation includes documentation of required resources (staff, means of transport, tools, spare parts). It is scheduled by taking into account the weather forecast available in the system.
The software automatically checks the professional and safety-rela-ted qualifications of the staff. If these are not available or certifica-tions are no longer valid, the operator is informed accordingly.

Cost and Revenue Optimisation
Coordination of logistics, ordering and reservation, power forecasts as well as direct sales
| 9WIND 2.0
In order to save transportation costs, the current operation will be coordinated for the next week with a repair plan for the density sen-sor in the medium voltage switchgear..
The order for a new fire alarm sensor is initiated by the integrated commercial system and will be calculated.
The exchange of both components in the medium voltage switchge-ar requires the shutdown of the WTG 02. For this reason a power production calculation will be made by BTC | WIND 2.0 for the fol-lowing days. This calculation will among others provide information about loss of earnings during the maintenance period.
Due to the optimistic wind forecasts the quantity of electricity plan-ned in the direct sales trading module will still be reached by the partial availability of the wind farm. The maintenance measure can be executed as planned.

Execution of the Operation
Control and documentation of the operation as well as cost allocation
| 11WIND 2.0
The planned maintenance measure is expected soon. A final con-trol, for example, of the availability of staff and material, is carried out by the system. If also, the weather conditions are within the established parameters, the operation can start.
The BTC | WIND 2.0 controls and executes the operation. All the movements of the transportation ship and the operation staff are tra-cked on a map.
The fire signalling sensor and the density sensor in the medium vol-tage switchgear are exchanged. The SCADA/network control modu-le confirms the error-free operation of the fire alarm system.
The operation is documented, assessed by the BTC | WIND 2.0 and invoiced by the linked commercial system.

*For the maintenance and all commercial processes we apply SAP as a standard. Our Add-on, BTC Assets, gives a better overview and even more convenient operation. If you alrea-dy use another ERP-system, we will be glad to integrate this seamlessly in BTC | WIND 2.0 on your request.

Safe Operation-Right from the Beginning
In the planning and set-up phase the foundation is laid for an efficient management.
BTC | WIND 2.0 facilitates and speeds up the cooperation with part-ners and providers right from the beginning of your project. It provi-des a platform of all relevant information and documents which are controlled by you and used by everybody.
The assets can be inventoried before the set-up and a lifetime docu-mentation can be produced as a file. Damages occurring during the transport and the elimination of errors during the commissioning are recorded in this file.
You always keep an overview by tracking the ship and staff during the hot phase of construction. The support of HSE-briefings and automatic information about the construction progress facilitate reporting to investors.
Thus the smooth transfer to operational business is no longer a problem.
