Your good effort and concentration are commendable and we would like to say “Very well done to you all.” This week our new spellings challenge us to think very carefully when using the suffix –ous to help us to solve a selection of activities. *Remember: During your time in Year 4 (whilst reading) you will have noticed this word ending and spotted that it helps to create powerful adjectives that make your reading interesting and fun. This week our new spellings challenge us to think very carefully when using the suffix –ous to help us to solve a selection of activities.

*Remember:

During your time in Year 4 (whilst reading) you will have noticed this word ending and spotted that it helps to create powerful adjectives that make your reading interesting and fun. Whilst drafting their stories our favourite authors have also had to learn and remember a few spelling rules too.

**Look carefully at the 3 spelling challenges for you. Remember to focus on learning your word list, then in a week’s time (Friday 22nd May) see if someone in your family can spare a few minutes to help give you a spelling quiz.

**To help remember how to use this word ending confidently here are some of the spelling rules to refer to as you solve our challenges:

E.g. carnivore ....... carnivorous

victory ........ victorious joy .............. joyous mountain ........... mountainous

**There are dictionaries on Google that will help you check the meaning of unfamiliar words you find yourself using this week, but please ask your Mum or Dad before you use them.

Close your eyes. Imagine you are in the rainforest. What can you see, hear and feel? Write a short diary extract about what you see and do. Try to include as many of the suffix –ous words as you can. Don’t forget you can use words from any of our spellings lists too. (You may need to look up the meaning of some of the words that are in our grid below).

**Your time in Brazil is nearly over and reluctantly you need to think about returning home. One of your friends has heard of your travels and in a short e-mail you tell them a little about your adventures and why you chose to go to Brazil. The word bank will help you to complete each sentence. (You will find that: courageous, serious, and tremendous can be used quite flexibly).
