Using TOSHIBA Internal Modem

V.92 / V.44 The TOSHIBA Internal Modem uses V.92/V.44 technology. The modem provides the following features when connected an Internet service provider that supports V.92/V.44.

NOTE: This feature works only in the United States and Canada. NOTE: V.92/V.44 rates can be achieved only when one V.92/V.44-capable modem is connected to a V.92/V.44-capable host modem. The TOSHIBA Internal modem will select automatically V.90 or V.34 if the remote modem lacks V.92/V.44capability or if a combination of network and/or phone line conditions prevents a V.92/V.44 connection.

V.92 features

・ Modem on Hold (MoH)

The ability to put the modem ‘on－hold’ when the network indicates that an incoming call is waiting.

・ Fast Connect (FC)

It results in significantly quicker start－up times on recognized connections.

・ PCM Upstream (not support)

An increase of more than 40% in the maximum data transmission rate to a maximum of 48Kbps on the best connections.

Modem On Hold (MOH) Application Help

Overview

This is an application that manages incoming/outgoing voice calls on a single phone line while being connected to the Internet. It puts the Internet connection on hold and answers/ignores an incoming voice call or places an outgoing voice call and returns back to the Internet without losing the connection. To use the full capability of V.92, the user needs a telephone line that supports the Call Waiting with Caller ID feature and an Internet Service Provider that supports V.92 connections. The application can disconnect the Internet call and accept the incoming voice call if the connection is not V.92. The application runs in the system tray on the desktop. It pops up and displays call events when they occur. It has options for configuration and to view a log of incoming calls.

Options Menu

Right clicking the application icon in the system tray of the desktop displays the options menu. It presents the user with the following options:

V.92 Modem on Hold Settings

This option configures the application to customize call interactions. The default options are set to screen all incoming calls and display them with the Caller ID information for the call. The user can then decide to answer or ignore the call.

・ Enable Call Waiting

The user will be notified of incoming calls when this box is checked. Incoming calls are ignored if the box is not checked. No other options are accessible if the box is not checked. This option is checked by default.

・ Disconnect call, Switch to voice

The incoming call is answered and the Internet connection is disconnected automatically if this button is enabled. This button is disabled by default.

・ Enable Modem on Hold

The user is notified of incoming calls and can then decide to answer or ignore the call if this button is enabled. This button is enabled by default.

・ Enable Caller ID

Caller ID information for the incoming call is displayed if this box is checked. This option is checked by default.

・ Warn before timeout

A warning message is displayed before the Internet hold times out. This gives the user an early warning that the Internet connection will be disconnected if the voice call is not terminated. This option is enabled by default.

・ Warning Value

Time in seconds, when the warning message is displayed

・ To switch between calls, dial

This allows the user to specify digits to be dialed to switch the call from the Internet connection to the incoming voice call. These digits will also be used to switch the call back from voice to data. This feature is used for lines that require DTMF digits to be dialed after the hookflash to switch the call from voice to data and back.

The user can specify different digits for the call to be switched from the Internet call to voice and back if required. This feature is used for lines that require different DTMF digits to be dialed after the hookflash to switch the call from voice to data and back. The dial digits can be specified as one string delimited by a comma.

If the user needs to use a sequence of hookflash+1 to switch from data to voice and hookflash+2 to switch from voice to data, then the dial string will be entered as 1, 2.

Call History

This option displays an incoming call log, showing the last ten incoming calls with date, time, number, and Caller ID. The Caller ID information will be available only if the phone-line supports the Caller ID on Call Waiting feature.

Start Automatically

When enabled, this option launches the application automatically during Windows startup. This is the default configuration of the application. Turning off the option disables the automatic start.

Place Voice Call

This feature allows the user to place an outgoing voice call while connected to a V92 server. This requires the user to have a line with the three-way calling service. The user selects the "Place Voice Call" option. This puts the Internet connection on hold and gives the user the option to place a voice call or to go back to the Internet connection. After selecting the voice call option, the user is prompted to pick up the local phone and to dial the voice call. When the voice call is completed, the user switches back to the Internet connection.

User Scenarios

Incoming Call when Connected to a V.92 Server

The call status window appears with the Caller ID information (if available). The user can answer or ignore the call and return to the Internet connection.

・ Answer

The call is switched from the Internet connection to the voice call. The user can talk to the calling party by using a local phone. The user can choose to resume the Internet connection when done with the voice call or continue talking on the voice call. The duration of the Internet hold is displayed on the call status window. Continuing the voice call after the Internet hold duration is over will cause the Internet connection to be disconnected.

・ Ignore

The Internet connection resumes after the Call Waiting signal ends. The Call Waiting signal may cause the modem to retrain or disconnect the call. The call status window automatically goes away once the Internet connection resumes.

Incoming Call when Connected to a V.90 Server

The call status window appears with the Caller ID information (if available). V90 connections do not support the Modem on Hold feature so the user can disconnect the Internet call and answer the voice call.

・ Disconnect Call/Switch to Voice

The user can click the Disconnect button to disconnect the Internet connection. The local phone will then ring, and the user can pick up to answer the incoming call. When the call is finished, hang up the phone, and then use the modem to redial the Internet connection.

Place Voice Call

This option will work if connected to a V.92 server. The call status window will be displayed. The user is presented with the option to call or ignore the request and return to the Internet connection.

・ Call

The call is switched from the Internet connection to the voice call. The user can use a local phone to make an outgoing call. The user can choose to resume the Internet connection when done with the voice call or continue talking on the voice call. The duration of the Internet hold is displayed on the call status window. Continuing the voice call after the Internet hold duration is over will cause the Internet connection to be disconnected.

・ Ignore

The Internet connection is resumed. The call status window will automatically go away once the Internet connection is resumed.

・ Disconnect Call/Switch to Voice (Déconnecter/Passer en mode vocal)

L'utilisateur peut cliquer sur le bouton Déconnecter pour déconnecter la connexion Internet. Le téléphone sonne et la conversation peut se dérouler normalement. Une fois l'appel terminé, raccrochez le téléphone, puis connectez-vous de nouveau à Internet.

Appel vocal

Cette option nécessite une connexion à un serveur V.92. La fenêtre d'état de l'appel s'affiche. L'utilisateur a la possibilité d'effectuer un appel pendant la connexion Internet.

・ Call (Appel)

L'appel passe alors du mode données au mode vocal. L'utilisateur utilise son téléphone local pour effectuer l'appel sortant. A l'issue de la communication, il a la possibilité de reprendre la connexion Internet ou d'appeler un autre correspondant. La durée d'attente de la connexion Internet s'affiche dans la fenêtre d'état. Une fois cette durée écoulée, la connexion Internet est interrompue.

・ Ignore (Ignorer)

La connexion Internet reprend. La fenêtre d'état de l'appel se ferme automatiquement lorsque la connexion Internet reprend.

・ Réponse

L'appel passe alors du mode données au mode vocal. L'utilisateur peut utiliser normalement son téléphone pour dialoguer avec son correspondant. A l'issue de la communication, il a la possibilité de reprendre la connexion Internet ou d'appeler un autre correspondant. La durée d'attente de la connexion Internet s'affiche dans la fenêtre d'état. Une fois cette durée écoulée, la connexion Internet est interrompue.

・ Ignore (Ignorer)

La connexion Internet reprend après la fin du signal d'appel en attente. Ce signal peut provoquer la réinitialisation du modem ou la déconnexion de l'appel. La fenêtre d'état de l'appel se ferme automatiquement lorsque la connexion Internet reprend.

Appel entrant lors de la connexion à un serveur V.90

La fenêtre d'état s'affiche et présente le numéro du correspondant (si disponible). Les connexions V90 ne prennent pas en charge la fonction Modem on Hold. Par conséquent l'utilisateur doit déconnecter l'appel Internet pour répondre à l'appel vocal.

Start Automatically (Démarrage automatique)

Activez cette option pour activer automatiquement l'application lors du démarrage de Windows. Il s'agit de la configuration par défaut de cette application. Désactivez cette option si vous ne souhaitez pas démarrer automatiquement l'application.

Place Voice Call (Appel vocal)

Cette fonction permet à l'utilisateur d'appeler un correspondant tout en restant connecté à un serveur V.92. Vous devez disposer d'une ligne autorisant le service de conférence à trois. L'utilisateur sélectionne l'option « Appel vocal ». La connexion Internet est alors placée en attente et laisse à l'utilisateur la possibilité d'appeler ou de rétablir la connexion Internet. S'il sélectionne l'appel vocal, un message s'affiche et l'utilisateur peut composer son numéro. Une fois cet appel terminé, il peut revenir à la connexion Internet.

La fenêtre d'état s'affiche et présente le numéro du correspondant (si disponible). L'utilisateur peut répondre à l'appel ou l'ignorer et revenir à la connexion Internet.

・ Enable Caller ID (Autoriser la présentation du numéro)

Activez cette case pour présenter le numéro du correspondant de l'appel entrant. Cette fonction est activée par défaut.

・ Warn before timeout (Prévenir avant l'expiration du délai)

Un message d'avertissement s'affiche avant l'expiration du délai d'attente de la connexion Internet. L'utilisateur peut alors décider s'il doit abréger l'appel vocal ou laisser la connexion Internet se terminer. Cette option est activée par défaut.

・ Warning Value (Valeur d'avertissement)

Nombre de secondes d'affichage du message d'avertissement.

・ To switch between calls, dial (Pour commuter entre les appels, composer)

Cette option permet à l'utilisateur de spécifier les numéros à composer pour passer de la connexion Internet à l'appel entrant. Ces numéros permettent également de repasser du mode vocal au mode données. Cette fonction est prévue pour les lignes nécessitant des numéros DTMF suite à l'actionnement du crochet commutateur afin de passer du mode vocal en mode données et inversement. Il est possible de spécifier plusieurs numéros. Cette fonction est prévue pour les lignes nécessitant des numéros DTMF différents suite à l'actionnement du crochet commutateur afin de passer du mode vocal en mode données et inversement. Spécifiez les numéros à composer sous forme de chaîne délimitée par une virgule. Lorsque l'utilisateur doit utiliser une séquence d'actionnement du crochet commutateur +1 pour passer du mode données en mode vocal et +2 pour revenir au mode données, la chaîne de numérotation se présente sous la forme 1, 2.

Call History (Historique des appels) Cette option affiche un journal des appels entrants, indiquant les dix derniers appels suivis de leur date, heure, numéro et identifiant de correspondant. Les informations sur l'identifiant de correspondant ne s'affiche que pour les lignes prenant en charge l'attente d'appels.

Paramètres Modem On Hold V.92

Cette option permet de configure l'application pour personnaliser les interactions d'appels. Les options par défaut permettent de filtrer tous les appels entrants et d'afficher l'identifiant du correspondant. L'utilisateur a la possibilité de répondre aux appels ou de les ignorer.

・ Enable Call Waiting (Activer l'attente d'appel) Sélectionnez cette case pour prévenir l'utilisateur en cas d'appel entrant. Sinon, les appels entrants sont ignorés. Aucune autre option n'est accessible lorsque cette case n'est pas activée. Cette fonction est activée par défaut.

・ Disconnect call, Switch to voice (Déconnecter. Passer en mode vocal)

Sélectionnez ce bouton pour accepter l'appel entrant et déconnecter automatiquement la communication Internet. Ce bouton est activé par défaut.

・ Enable Modem on Hold (Activer Modem on Hold)

Activez ce bouton pour prévenir l'utilisateur en cas d'appels entrants et lui permettre d'accepter ou de refuser ces derniers. Ce bouton est activé par défaut.

Aide de l'application Modem On Hold (MOH)

Présentation

Cette application gère les appels vocaux entrants et sortants sur une ligne téléphonique unique tout en permettant de rester connecté à Internet. La connexion Internet est alors mise en attente ce qui permet de répondre ou d'ignore un appel vocal entrant, voire d'appeler un correspondant. La connexion Internet est ensuite rétablie sans interruption. Pour bénéficier de tous les avantages du mode V.92, l'utilisateur nécessite une ligne téléphonique prenant en charge l'attente d'appel et la fonction de présentation du numéro, ainsi qu'un fournisseur de service prenant en charge les connexions V.92. L'application risque de déconnecter la communication Internet et d'accepter les appels vocaux entrants lorsque la connexion n'est pas de type V.92. Vous trouverez l'icône de l'application dans la barre d'état système du bureau. Elle se développe lorsque des appels sont en cours. Elle dispose d'un ensemble d'options et assure le suivi des appels entrants dans un fichier journal.

Utilisation du modem interne TOSHIBA

V.92 / V.44 Le modem interne TOSHIBA utilise la technologie V.92/V.44. Le modem offre les fonctions suivantes lorsqu’il est connecté à un fournisseur de services Internet prenant en charge la norme V.92/V.44.

REMARQUE: Cette fonction n’est disponible qu’aux Etats-Unis et au Canada. REMARQUE: Les débits V.92/V.44 ne peuvent être réalisés que lorsqu’un modem compatible V.92/V.44 est connecté à un ordinateur hôte compatible V.92/V.44. Le modem interne TOSHIBA sélectionne automatiquement le débit V.90 ou V.34 si le modem distant n'est pas compatible V.92/V.44 ou si une combinaison de problèmes au niveau de la ligne ou du réseau empêchent une connexion V.92/V.44.
