Using Web 2.0 in the Classroom

Wikis, Blogs and A/V Set-upUsing Web 2.0 in the Classroom

This is a quick what are they and how can I use it in the classroom workshop. 1A/V Projector Use and Set-upUse the A/V Projector to utilize Web 2.0 and video content in the classroom.

The projector serves as an Output Device to view material coming from another device such as a computer or DVD/VCR machine.2

Output from computerOutput from DVDInput to projector (you should be able to have both a computer and DVD connected (multiple input options)If you have a Desktop or Laptop there will be an video output jack that you will connect to the video input of the A/V Projector. In order to get the audio out to the projector, you will use the headphone jack on the computer and audio cable to input audio on the projector (an adaptor may be needed and will come with the projector). For connecting the DVD/VCR you will use the standard video cables you may already have (red, yellow, white).3Wikis "Wiki" (/wi : ki:/) is originally a Hawaiian word for "fast".

Wikis in Plain English videoThis is the idea: you can share information and post it on the Internet without having to learn some complicated computer language. This is perfect way for teachers and students to post information. You can take it one step further and allow students to collaboratively design wikis on assigned topics, create study guides, post student work the applications are as endless as our imaginations! 4Examples of Wikis:

Edison High School Library Media CenterThe Main Page is about current happenings, access to the research databases, the Library and L2 calendar. The Sidebar provides quick links to Teacher Pages, FUSD, PowerSchool, TeleParent, Discovery Streaming, Net Treker, Search Engines, & Research sites.

Example of classroom/library wiki: Edison High School Library Media Center. Please note the new Databases. They will prove invaluable to students and teachers! Verifiable, accurate information can be difficult to find using a Search Engine. Using a Database will save time and provide a safe way for students to access information that comes from reliable resources that are easily indentified and verified. Time is $ and the Internet is often the poor mans resource. 5Other examples of Wikis:WikipediaCoops World: Wiki ExamplesViking Web wikiSharePoint has a wiki and a blogbut beware for nowthe wiki is a bit stickyyou may want to use a free wiki and then link to it from your FUSD wiki: Edison High Library SharePoint wiki
