Using Your Choice of Material
for Colors
Step 1- Gather Materials
• Things you can trace to make circles, rectangles, triangles, straight lines, curved lines, etc.
• 1 piece of the best white paper you have.
• A black marker, crayon, or colored pencil
Step 2- Trace Items to Create Design • Make sure your design is similar to Kandinsky’s style
• Make sure your design is abstract (no objects or people)
• Listen to music as you work (see links on website)
• Use black to draw lines. This can be with a marker, crayon, or colored pencil. If you plan to use watercolors, don’t use a water based marker (a permanent marker would be fine.)
• Look at the examples on the next page before you start.
Example Designs:
EMAIL YOUR LINE DRAWING TO ME AT [email protected] before you start coloring. This will be for a progress grade.
Step 3- Start to Color to Your Design • Choose the art material you will use: markers, crayons,
oil pastels, colored pencils, watercolor paint, etc.
• Color or paint your design with bright colors
• Listen to music while you work like Kandinsky
• Try to use expressive colors and make them gradually change from one color to another in areas.
Step 4- Complete Your Coloring • Finish coloring or
painting your design.
• Continue to listen to music while you work
