It was an evening to remember as sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan performed alongside UK based Orchestra Sinfonia Verdi conducted by the internation-

ally acclaimed David Murphy at the open air amphitheatre of Kala Academy, Panaji, recently. The Root of Fire Concert took the audience on a magical journey where the melody of the East merged with that of the West.

The amphitheatre was packed with music enthusiasts and the one and a half hour long performance kept the audience entertained throughout the evening. UK based Orchestra Sinfonia Verdi conducted by David Murphy performed pieces by Mozart and a Weber composi-tion for Bassoon among others. The concert began with a brief perfor-mance by the students of Lourdes Convent, Saligao. The students were part of a two day master-class conducted by David Murphy. Held under the aegis of the Deccan Heritage Foundation, the concert celebrated and inspired young, aspiring instrumentalists with a

the next steps towards its conserva-tion,” says Pestana.

Vanessa Antunes will speak about ‘Painting in Goa in the 16th and17th centuries: hits and acquirements’ and José Pestana will speak about the “Mural painting in Goa: study, preservation and conservation”. The conference will be held at the Fundacao Orient premises in Fon-tainhas today, January 24 at 5:30 p.m. The event is open to all. )
