Why is Broadband Development Important?Broadband infrastructure is critical to attracting businesses, supporting education, healthcare, public safety and
economic development in both urban and rural areas.
How has Broadband Planning Supported Infrastructure Deployment in Utah?
Aligned the efforts of over 50 private broadband providers, UDOT, UEN, DTS, public safety agencies and other partners.
Worked with over 250 stakeholders to form state and regional plans to identify best practices and support private sector deployment.
Worked with state leadership and partners to submit com-ments that changed federal policies that would have nega-tively impacted funding for broadband in Utah, particularly in rural school districts.

Minnesota recently asked states if they plan to continue broadband planning efforts
What is an Estimated Cost for Continuing this Effort?Federal funding for project activities and grant closeout will terminate on March 31, 2015 and activities will stop. The program would require one-time funding of approximately $125,000 for FY2015 and $500,000 ongoing funds (a 50%+ reduced budget
from the $1.2 million annual federal budget the program is currently operating under.
