2012 UT TRACK & FIELD QUICK FACTS

Starting BlocksUT Opening Up at Kentucky Invitational Once Again Tennessee will open its indoor campaign at the Kentucky Invitational for the sixth straight season, as

the Vols and Lady Vols compete on Friday and Saturday in Lexington on UK’s oversized 300-meter oval. Friday’s eight-event schedule begins at 6 p.m., while a full slate of action gets underway at 10:30 a.m.

on Saturday in UK’s Nutter Field House. Expected to be on hand for the meet are Arkansas (women), Bellarmine (women), Eastern Kentucky,

Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall (women), Miami [Fla.], Middle Tennessee, Tennessee and Vanderbilt (women). Kentucky will host the SEC Indoor Championships later this season on Feb. 24-26.

Looking Back To Last Year’s Meet Last season freshmen Kianna Ruff (w 800m), Justin Hunter (m LJ) and Dentarius Locke (m 60m/200m),

and senior Jackie Areson (w 3000m) were victorious for Tennessee. Ruff is the only one of the three ex-pected to compete for UT at this season’s meet. Hunter is injured and Locke transferred to Florida State. Returning runners-up include sophomore Jarael Nelvis (m 200m) and junior Nijgia Snapp (w 800m).

The Big Orange Coaching Staff J.J. Clark is in his 10th season at Tennessee and third year as the director over both the men’s and

women’s programs. He has won two NCAA Indoor and three SEC Indoor women’s crowns on his watch. Veteran John Frazier was promoted to associate head coach in the off season. Assistants Jerome Romain (jumps) and Sharon Seagrave (women’s sprints) return. Rohsaan Griffi n (men’s sprints) and Mary Jayne Reeves (distance) joined the staff during the summer

after George Watts (men’s distance) and Norbert Elliott (men’s sprints) were not retained.
