According to UN Reports the world will receive 2.5 billion more people in the next 30 years. Due to rapid urbanization a majority of these people will be urban dwellers' who will have to cope with the rapidly changing weather patterns. These trends combined with rural to urban migration of existing populations and the fact that 1/3 of the world's urban population lives in slums emphasises the urgent need for high quality urban design and planning along with securing its implementation. In response, the United Nations will be convening Habitat III, the bicentennial UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, in October 2016. This conference aims to secure political consensus and commitment to an improved pathway for a "New Urban Agenda” for the next 20 years, one that will promote sustainable urbanisation. The New Urban Agenda will cover six themes: Social Cohesion and Equity (Livable Cities), Urban Frameworks (Legislation and Finance), Spatial Development (Planning and Urban Rural Linkages), Urban Economy, Urban Ecology and Environment, and Urban Housing and Basic Services. Contribute to the New Urban Agenda by participating in one of thirty Urban Thinkers Campuses happening around the world. Join us at an Urban Thinkers Campus in New York City!
