What happens when the circuit is stopped inside the facility? In this simple illustration: Power to the light is turned off.

Much like water in a garden hose, electricity will create pressure on the system as it seeks a way out to complete the circuit or exit the hose.

The electricity “backs-up” into the panel as it tries to find the easiest way to get to ground, completing the circuit.

This “surge” of power is now sent through the facility’s wiring system seeking a way to ground. The extra power is delivered throughout the facility causing the electrical devices to run hotter, expel the extra energy in some form (electrical erosion), run inefficiently and damages the internal components, reducing the life of the equipment.
