Summer of Music Several of our musicstudents traveled toMichigan this summerwhere theyworkedalongsideprofessionals in theirfield at the InterlochenCenter for the Arts.Jack Mergen (JuniorMusic Education), LilahSenibaldi (SophomoreMusic Performance),Chloe Lollar (JuniorMusic Education),Caitlyn King (Senior Music Education) and Andy Austin (MusicPerformance and Pedagogy Graduate) helped young musicians hone inon their skills as musicians and artists.

Festival is aninterdisciplinary summer
music festival, bringingtogether dozens of
performers, composers, andscholars to collaborate on
the performance, creation, and discussion of contemporary music. Thefestival offers an immersive think-tank environment in the state-of-the-art
Natalie L. Haslam Music Center at the University of Tennessee,Knoxville, and presents 7-8 concerts of modern music, aiming to
encourage both appreciation for live music and support for contemporaryart.
Stephen Downing also attended the Society for Minimalist Music SixthInternational Conference. The Society for Minimalist Music was formed inSeptember 2007, at the First International Conference on Music andMinimalism, at the University of Bangor, Wales, directed by Pwyll ap Siôn andTristian Evans. The Societyfor Minimalist Music exists topromote the intellectual andscholarly study of the musicknown as minimalism, andoriginating in the 1960sactivities of composers LaMonte Young, Terry Riley,Tony Conrad, TerryJennings, Jon Gibson,Charlemagne Palestine, PhillNiblock, Steve Reich, PhilipGlass, and others. The Society's interests are not limited to the music of thatperiod, but also to ensuing streams of music developed from minimalistorigins, and also in the relationship of music to minimalism in the other arts.Specifically, the Society recognizes minimalism not only in its familiar idiom ofmotivic repetition, but also its more general concern with drones and stasis.The Sixth International Society for Minimalist Music Conference will be hostedby the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN in June 2017.
Stephen Downing, Jenna Kirby, and CameronWestbrook traveled to the island country of St.Lucia to perform with the Laborie Steel Orchestrain the annual Panorama competition. Title-defenders Laborie Steel Orchestra played in thepenultimate spot. Outfitted in black three-quarterpants ensembles, highlighted with blue, yellowand white undershirts, seventy-eight playerschipped onstage to take their places. Most werealso adorned with blue and white feathered facemasks, and all were prepared for what was aspirited delivery of Andrius Edwide's arrangementof De Invader's Beh Le Lesh from 2001.

Dr. Julie Hill was selected as Yamaha's featurededucator/performer for Yamaha's magazinecalled "Support Ed". Click here to read the fullarticle.
Dr. Julie Hill also traveled to Taiwan for the 9th Annual Taiwan International Percussion Convention whereshe lectured and performed with Caxia Trio.
Dr. Julie Hill and Dr. Eric Willie co-wrote the "All-Inclusive Audition Etudes". This method book is acollection of junior read senior high school audition etudes along with sight reading exercises. For
