Quick overviewUWI Mona Circle K International Club is a part of the Kiwanis International movement; one of the world’s largest non-profit service organizations dedicated to the complete development and enhancement of not just humankind but the world. Circle K is an arm of the Kiwanis movement controlled and lead by some of the world’s best university and college students. Each Circle K club is expected to perform as a somewhat self-sustained institution and as such is given only partial financial sponsorship from a Kiwanis club. The clubs must then be creative in the way they generate funding for their service projects which all clubs and required to do. Each Club is a part of a Division which is a small manageable group of clubs within a District; which normally encompasses 2 or more divisions. A district is normally a country or state wide collection of clubs.

The UWI Mona Circle K International club has been around for more than 26 years and has an impeccable track record for quality service, leadership and a network of dedicated friends who assist in making the dream possible.

Governor’s MessageNicolette Wilson; a daughter of the Caribbean’s leading tertiary institution and a stalwart of the Kiwanis

movement continues to blaze her trail of greatness as the first governor to serve two terms.

Greetings!! The UWI Mona Circle K Club is dear to my heart. As a member of this club, I will continue to look to you for the greatest support as governor this year. As the Circle K Club that has groomed me to be what I am today, it is my deepest pleasure to address you as Distinguished President of this distinguished club, and as Governor of the Caribbean District. The UWI Mona CKI Club is known for excellence, and it is this tradition of undying success, that you all are expect-ed to uphold. As you come in to this organization for varying reasons, I hope you will stay for only one rea-son, to serve your school, community, country and self.

The Caribbean District has entered another year of service, one in which you are needed now, more than ever. Circle K International is the world’s largest student led collegiate service organization. We have a role to play in our Caribbean region. It is our duty to help to produce socially responsible students, giv-ing back to the less fortunate and providing a hap-py life to our children. The Caribbean District is hap-py to have you on board as part of the team. The UWI Mona Circle K Club has an especially big part to play. As the region’s premier institution for higher education, I expect your be the premier club in the region for service, on all three campuses. I therefore charge you, UWI Mona CKI, to be the leader for the

other two UWI Campus Clubs and work closely with them as brother and sister clubs across the three divisions of our District, to render unselfish service, and to give back to the community in a way that no other college or university can. I challenge you UWI Mona to rise above the comfort zone of just your campus and neighboring communities, but in-stead, let your presence and hands of service be felt throughout the Caribbe-an region. Be the leader in this mighty Caribbean District and serve!!!

I encourage you to never lose sight of our tenets, which are service, lead-ership and fellowship. Service is a big part of our goal this year as the Dis-trict encourages clubs to give selfless-ly. Clubs are expected to improve on the service hours from the previous year, and to work hard at ensuring that members are active within the clubs. The Eliminate Project, our major service initiative, has under 2 years to reach its goal of USD 110M. Clubs have a major role to play in ensuring that Maternal Neonatal Tetanus is eliminated by the end of 2015. Fundraisers must there-fore be structured in such a way that clubs make and contribute as much as they can. I implore the members of this club, the UWI Mona CKI Club to rise to the challenge and give to the Eliminate Project like no other club has.

The District has a lot planned for you this year, so I encourage you to stay involved. Read emails, utilize the FB Group and communicate with your Lieutenant governor, a member of this same club. This is a very special year for us as we will be here as CKI members to celebrate Kiwanis 100 year anniver-sary come October 1st. You therefore have a big role to play in ensuring that whatever Circle K does, it is done to the best of our abilities and the high-est quality. Show your K in every way. Use this time to bond with your Circle K friends and fellowship with your spon-soring Kiwanis club of North St. Andrew. I look to you all for a successful year, a year that has not been seen before!!! In everything you, Live to Serve!!! Love to Serve!!! Represent the spirit and beauty of our West Indian Caribbean people!! The Caribbean District! United by our Culture, bonded by our people! I expect full support from this club, as

Greetings fellow Circle kers I hope this message finds you and your family members in good health and spirit. June marks as the 3rd month since I was sincerely honoured by being elected Secretary of the CKI club of the University of the West Indies Mona. Although I have been a member of the Kiwanis family for many years I am still on a learning curve as to how Circle K functions, this is an indication to show that no matter what post you hold, there is still more you need to educate yourself on. Circle K International is an excellent service organization and you all should feel extremely proud to be a part of it and it would have not been so successful without the selfless dedication of the volunteers and officers through the world. UWI also have a history of greatness which we will achieve back this administrative year. All I want from you the members are your time and dedication to the organization, go back to that first day you entered into the club and told everyone why you chose Circle K. Let that ‘why’ become a reality and let our motto and three tenets be your guide. See you all soon but in the mean time ‘gwan’ ...... ‘Live to serve looooôvvvveeee to service!!’

Hola Circle Kers! Hope like myself you are all enjoying the summer. Having fun and com-mitting service where ever and when ever you can. Though I’ve only been a circle Ker for 9 months, which is ironic since after these 9 months I must say that I have fully developed into a loyal circle ker. It is my hope that for the rest of the year. That we continue to press on effortlessly as circle kers to carry out projects, raise funds, integrate with our fellow circle kers and Kiwanis family members on a whole

and aim to matriculate further onto higher ranks. I want to encourage each and every one of you to not let being at home stop you from committing an act of service, Go Online, there are a lot of organizations there waiting for your help and your time. I hope to meet and greet everyone of you who reads this message sometime throughout my tenure as I love meeting new people in the Kiwanis family. Continue to enjoy your summer and achieve.

Tiffany Higgins, University of the West Indies Circle K treasurer. Circle k is a club I hold dear to my heart; it has shaped me into the well rounded individual I am today.

Circle k International is the largest university service leadership organization in the world. Circle k international performs on average half a million hours of service each year which involves more than 13,700 members spanning 19 nations. CKI is making a positive impact on the world everyday. Circle K International promotes the three important tenets which include; SERVICE, LEADERSHIP and FELLOWSHIP. The University of the West Indies, Mona is indeed apart of this incredible organization. CKI focuses on giving back to our community, fostering an environment to build leaders and make enduring friendships.

Since service is an important part of Circle k Internal the University of the West Indies, Mona Circle K club has taken part in two very worthy causes thus far. These include the JCDC Labour Day Project along with the Tin Drive.

Two enthused contributors to the tin drive which was conducted in Ocho Rios. Proceeds were sent to the Jamaica Cancer Society to aid with its continued efforts in cancer treatment. The JCDC Labour Day project involved efforts in revamping the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre. The UWI Circle k club was given the task of beautifying the grounds which involved mainly planting flowers.

For the year to come many other projects are in store a few include the International Beach Clean up and our own Day camp. Not only do we perform service we also have a time for relaxation ‘fellowship’ and always building world class leaders along the way.

Good-Day, I would like to personally take the time out before I say anything else to say thank you for reading this e-mag. I thank you from the depths of my heart.

I Am Tommy Gooden; the bulletin editor with responsibility for Marketing and Public Relations for the year 2014 – 2015. I am new to the Circle K International family; having joined only a few months ago, I have somehow managed to garner the respect and trust of my peers who elected me. There are so many reasons I could give you as to why you should become a part of the University of the West Indies, Mona Circle K; but I’ll sum it up with two word: “the experience”.

For myself and for anyone who has been stupid enough to give Circle K a chance can tell you, this

club really stays true to its tenets: Service, Leadership and fellowship. Those three words mean the world to this board and everything it does is about rendering altruistic service to our community and the world, creating better leaders for the world and creating enduring friendships and bonds unbreakable my time space and anything else to that matter.

I’ve personally gone through my metamorphic stage and transformed from a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly; and so can you. I’ve met people and formed friendships I’m wondering how I ever lived without. I implore you to join this movement to meet new fun and interesting people,

to build your capacity and for a better Jamaica and ultimately a better world! Be a part of us! Be a part of the change and the fun.

If you are a business owner or someone outside the remits of the UWI Mona campus please feel free to connect with us and help us in any way you can. We constantly partner with organizations to make a difference. We have the knowledge, the understanding and most importantly the capacity to make a positive difference in people’s lives.

Thank you and have yourself a wonderful day.
