1.0Surface Preparation: Garden Bed Areas All garden bed subgrade areas shall be cultivated to a depth of 300mm, adjust depth of cultivation above underground services and beneath canopies of existing trees to be retained to avoid damage. Apply a minimum of 600 layer imported topsoil mix (type A) and evenly spread throughout garden bed area while ensuring overland storm water flow paths are directed towards drainage swales and grated storm water pits. Do not alter existing surface levels beneath existing trees to be retained. Refer Detail 3.

Suspend topsoil operations when soil is wet or during frost periods.

Type A Topsoil Mix: Australian Native Landscapes, Greenlife Garden Mix

2.0Surface Preparation: Areas to be turfedAll turfed subgrade areas shall be cultivated to a depth of 300mm, adjust depth of cultivation above underground services and beneath canopies of existing trees to be retained to avoid damage. Apply a minimum of 150 layer imported topsoil mix (type B) and evenly spread throughout turfed area while ensuring overland storm water flow paths are directed towards drainage swales and grated storm water pits. Do not alter existing surface levels beneath existing trees to be retained Refer Detail 2.

Suspend topsoil operations when soil is wet or during frost periods.

Type B Topsoil Mix: Australian Native Landscapes, Turf Underlay

3.0Concrete Garden EdgingAll garden bed edging is to be set out and constructed in accordance with the specifications, landscape plans and details Refer Detail 3, Detail 5. Garden edging shall be pegged out, inspected and approved by landscape architect prior to installation of form work. Concrete edging shall be constructed insitu, 150 deep x 100 wide with a 15mm radius tooled edge and saw cuts at 2.0m intervals Garden edging is to finish flush with adjacent turf and pavement levels.

4.0Building EdgingAll building edging is to be set out and constructed in accordance with the specifications, landscape plans and details Refer Detail 1. Timber edging shall be H4 rated treated pine 100 x 50 with hardwood pegs at 1.0m intervals. Timber edging to be offset 200mm from face of building and backfilled using decorative pebble mulch to a depth of 300mm.

Decorative Pebble: Australian Native Landscape, Nepean River Pebble 20mm

5.0Plant MaterialAll plant material delivered to the site shall be in the numbers, species, variety and sizes as specified on the plant schedule. The plants are to be healthy nursery stock in good form, consistent with the species and variety, free from pest /disease, injury or weed growth. All trees delivered to site shall have a single leading shoot unless specifically required to be multi-stemed. No plant is to be delivered to site which has not been hardened off or is otherwise inferior in quality. No plant shall be "potted on" to meet scheduled pot sizes. Plant substitutions or other modification will not be acceptable without prior written approval. All plants material shall be delivered with durable readable labels indicating type and variety.

6.0Garden Mulch / PlantingInstall shrub and ground cover planting as per specifications, landscape plans and details Refer Detail 3. Prior to planting into ground, all plants are to be laid out in the required locations and densities for inspection and approval by the landscape architect. Where layouts require adjustment due to service locations or other factors, modify density and layout accordingly to ensure an even coverage of planted areas. All plants are to be thoroughly watered prior to planting, immediately after and as required to maintain growth rates and minimize planting stress.

During planting procedure carefully remove container with minimal disturbance to root ball and place in its final position, in the centre of the hole and plumb and with topsoil level of root ball matching finished garden bed topsoil levels. Remove any air pockets while backfilling by lightly tamping down and watering the topsoil.

At the completion of planting operations apply a 75mm layer Mulch (Type A) to all massed planted garden bed areas, reduce depth of mulch layer around the stem of plant to form shallow depression.

Do not plant in unsuitable weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, wind or rain.

7.0 Turf

All turfing is to be carried out and laid in accordance with the specifications,

landscape plans and details Refer Detail 2. Turf used for this project shall be

Kikuyu supplied in Maxi-rolls. Prior to turfing, the prepared surface shall be

watered to ensure topsoil is moist and ready to accept the placement of turf

rolls. Watering is not to cause scouring or erosion of topsoil surface.

Turf shall be harvested, delivered and laid within a twelve (12) hour period.

Turfing is to be carried out to ensure the integrity of all overland flows paths,

drainage swales or finished grades. To avoid compaction and disruption of

finished grades, only specialized Maxi-roll handling and installation equipment

shall be used for this process. No heavy machinery such as tractors or

delivery trucks etc. shall be allowed on the prepared surface.

Turf rolls shall be laid in a stretcher bond pattern, butt jointed and parallel to

the contour lines of the prepared surface. Gaps between turf rolls shall not to

exceed 5mm.

Do not schedule turf laying operation when unsuitable weather conditions such

as extreme heat, cold, wind or rain has been forecast.

Turf: Kikuyu ( Maxi Rolls 21.0m x 1.2m)

8.0Tree Planting

Plant trees to locations in accordance with the specifications, landscape

plans and details, Refer, Detail 3 and Detail 4.

All trees are to be thoroughly watered prior to planting, immediately after

and as required to maintain growth rates and minimize planting stress.

During planting procedure carefully remove container with minimal

disturbance to root ball and place in its final position, in the centre of the

hole and plumb and with topsoil level of root ball matching finished turf /

garden bed topsoil levels. Remove any air pockets while backfilling by

lightly tamping down and watering the topsoil. Prior to backfilling, break

up base and sides of hole a further 100mm to prevent confinement of

root growth.

Do not plant in unsuitable weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold,

wind or rain.

9.0 Irrigation

All massed planted garden bed areas and individual trees in grass shall

be irrigated by an automatic drip irrigation system. Refer Drawing L06/6

for scope and detail specifications. Refer Hydraulic engineers drawings

for all information regarding water supply and connections. Water for

irrigation purposes to be sourced from a potable water supply.

10.0Existing Trees

Existing trees identified for retention shall be protected and managed

during the course of construction in accordance with consulting arborist

recommendations and instructions.

11.0Establishment Period / Turf Maintenance

Handover of all planted garden bed areas and tree planting shall take

place after all landscape work has been completed. Handover shall not

occur before completion of all turfing operations or prior to building works

reaching a stage of Practical Completion.

All turfed areas shall be maintained by the contractor to ensure full

establishment for a period of six (6) weeks. During this period, contractor

shall be responsible for all turf maintenance. Maintenance shall include

but not be limited to: watering, mowing, top dressing, weeding and

replacement of any failed sections or sections in poor condition. At time

of hand over all turfed areas shall show signs of healthy even and dense

growth free of weeds bare patches or other deleterious material. Last

mowing shall take place seven (7) days prior to handover inspection.

12.0Inspections by University Nominated Representative

The following project milestones shall be inspected by landscape

architect and signed off prior to proceeding with next stage of works.

1. Completion of all surface preparation prior to installation of garden

edging

2. Layout of all garden bed edging before installation of formwork

3. Tree and Plant layouts prior to planting

4.Completion of all planting and mulching

5. Final handover Inspection (Planting)

6. Final Handover Inspection (Turfing)
