Senator John Thune is cur- rently accepting applications from college students inter- ested in serving as interns this fall in his Washington, DC office, as well as his Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls offices. Senator Thune’s internship program allows students to gain valuable insight by learn- ing how a Senate office oper- ates. Interns in state offices will participate in constituent service and state outreach activities, as well as assisting the state staff, while students in the Washington, DC office will have the opportunity to witness the legislative process, give Capitol tours, and attend Senate votes and hearings. Both in-state and Washington, DC internships will allow stu- dents to work closely with con- stituents, hone their research and writing skills, and learn a multitude of office skills. “Interning in a Senate office is a great opportunity for stu- dents who are interested in government to serve their state while gaining valuable experience for the future,” said Senator Thune. Local student named to MSU Moorhead’s dean’s list The Minnesota State Uni- versity Moorhead dean's list has been announced for the spring semester 2010. Stephanie Morse, Vermil- lion, was named to Moorhead’s dean list. She is majoring in film studies and social work. MSU Moorhead, with an enrollment of 7,480 students, is a comprehensive univer- sity offering 69 undergradu- ate majors with 95 emphases and options, 16 pre-profes- sional studies, 13 graduate programs, and 31 areas of licensure preparation. MSU Moorhead is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Renner on dean’s list Emily K. Renner of Ver- million has earned a place on the Idaho State University 2010 spring semester deans list for the College of Arts and Sciences, announced Scott S. Hughes, Ph.D., interim dean of the college. To qualify for the deans list, students must complete at least 12 semester credits and receive a grade point average of 3.66 or higher. Ford named to dean’s honor list Lydia Ford, daughter of Steven and Pamela Ford of Vermillion, was named to the dean’s honor list at Morn- ingside College for the 2010 spring semester. Each semester the dean’s honor list recognizes stu- dents who achieve a 3.67 grade point average or better and complete at least 12 credits of course work with no grade below a “C-.” Morningside College enrolled 2,036 full-time and part-time students for the 2009 fall term and welcomes students of all faiths and back- grounds. Morningside offers five bachelor’s degrees, includ- ing a bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of music, bachelor of music education, and of nursing, and a master of arts in teaching degree. Daniel is a 2010 graduate of Irene- Wakonda High School. The Clay County Youth Trust Fund awards are pre- sented annually to Clay County residents. The Venard, 4-H and Centennial Scholarship applicants must be Clay County youth and attending or will be attending a higher school of education. All applicants must demon- strate abilities in scholastics, leadership and citizenship. Scholarships are funded from the Clay County Youth Trust Fund, Inc., a non-prof- it organization designed to provide financial aid to Clay County youth. It is adminis- tered by a Board of Directors comprised of Cathi Powell, Phyllis Sternquist, Sharron Jensen, Mike Carlson, Julie Fallan, Deb Christensen and Ray Passick. Rose and Vi Venard were the principal founders and contributors to the fund. Memorials and gifts to the fund are tax-exempt. The board thanks all who donate each year.
