Vampires, werewolves, and goblins, oh my! It’s that time of year again, grab your broom sticks and your witch hats and howl for Halloween! Halloween (otherwise known as All Saint’s Eve), is the yearly celebration mostly cele- brated in the western countries on the 31 st of October. The traditional reason for Halloween was to use ridicule and humor to confront the powers of death. The word Halloween means “Holy Evening”, but you wouldn’t think so with monsters being celebrated, such as Mummies, Screaming banshees, and the all -time favorite, Dracula. Fun activities for this day of dread include: Trick or treating, bobbing for apples, telling spooky ghost stories, and going through haunted houses for good scares. For this day, darkness rules and so do the treats. Candy corn, Carmel apples, chocolate, and marshmallows, you’ll be up to your shoulders in sweet treats. And one of the most fun things to do during Halloween… would have to be dressing up as your favorite monster! What will you be? A hand painted skeleton, a bed-sheet ghost, a hairy werewolf? Or will you be something more untraditional, like someone from your favorite movie, or videogame, or book? Or would you rather be staying home watching a marathon of Halloween movies such as the Nightmare Before Christmas? Whatever you do, I wish you all a happy Halloween and a great school year! Happy Halloween! Vampires, werewolves, and goblins, oh my! It’s that time of year again, grab your broom sticks and your witch hats and howl for Halloween! Halloween (otherwise known as All Saint’s Eve), is the yearly celebration mostly cele-brated in the western countries on the 31st of October. My first question is from Miah Douglas, who asks how to stay awake during class. After observing my peers, I found that most students fall asleep during classes that they find unin-teresting. To avoid dozing off in some of the less en-tertaining classes, you should follow these simple steps. First, you should al-ways eat a healthy break-fast and have at least 8 hours of sleep. If you don’t do those two essential things, then you are bound to fall asleep during a lec-ture. Second, you should avoid daydreaming at all costs. Daydreams tend to lead to actual dreams. Fi-nally, you should always pay attention in class. If you decide to join a lecture half way through class, you will have no idea what the teacher will be talking about, get bored, and fall asleep.

The second question is

from Catalina Rocha, who

wants to know how to man-

age your homework with

your hobbies. If you have

an unscheduled hobby, like

reading, writing or drawing,

then you should always do

your homework first. If you

have a scheduled hobby,

like if you are a part of a

dance or sports team, you

should always make time to

do your homework before

you start. That way you

know you will have enough

time for everything.

The Maze Runner

Maze Runner is a

movie directed by Wes

Ball. It’s about a boy

named Thomas (Dylan

O’Brian) who finds him-

self in a large expanse called the Glade, with no

memory of his past.

Soon after his arrival,

Thomas becomes one of

the Runners, who map

out the Maze by running

through its sections,

hoping to find an escape

route. Soon after his ar-

rival, a girl named Teresa

(Kaya Scodelario) arrives,

which is unusual for the

Gladers. With her help,

Thomas must convince the other Runners- and

the rest of the Gladers-

that he knows the way

out.

Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life. The movie is based on the bestseller book, “Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day”, and was directed by Miguel Arteta. This is one of the best family movies yet! It’s full of laughs and enjoyment. Yes, the movie does have those parts where everything falls downhill and you feel like someone ripped out your heart and stomped all over it. Still, you HAVE to go see this movie. Take your mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, uncle, aunt, grandma, granddad, someone. Trust me, this is a movie you have to go see. Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day is play-ing somewhere near you.
