Cisco exams expire in 3 years. To recertify, you have to take one of a number of Cisco specific exams; there is no continuing education provision in the Cisco program.

Network+ was chosen by the U.S. Dept. of Defense as one of the certifications that military personnel and contractors may take to meet the requirement for Information Assurance Tech Level I personnel.
