All is progressing better than anticipated here at St. James. Many things continue to move forward in spite of the present challenges. I never thought that I would be endorsing a commercial, but soon we will be providing on our web site a visual update of how our Brick by Brick project is moving forward, the latest updates on our sound system and camer-as, and whatever Pierre and Ron decide to share!

One of the services that will be provided with our new sound system are devices that will assist folks that are experiencing hearing challenges. At this time,

we have a limited supply of these instruments. Once we figure out how the sys-tem operates, we will make them available. Currently we have four (4) devices. We are exploring the pos-sibility of providing for folks that would prefer their own personal device, the op-portunity to purchase them at a reasonable cost. If any of you would like to assist the parish in purchasing additional devices, please let me know. Once we get a firm cost amount, we will share that information.

Although we will not be able to assemble for Vacation Bible School this

God’s peace!summer, it will be provid-ed via of our web site. One of the advantages is that it can be viewed at your convenience. I encourage families to take the time to participate. The staff has put together a stellar experience!

Just a friendly reminder that if you wish to attend a daily Mass, it is not neces-sary to pre-register. We still would prefer that you register for the weekend liturgies.

Love you all!

God’s peace,

Fr. Ed Z.

A seed is a tiny mystery.

It can be eaten just as it is, or it can be planted and produce a hundred more seeds, which in turn produce thousands more. If given the right care, it can feed a family or fill a garden with its beauty. Some seeds will not reach their potential because they are eaten by birds or trampled underfoot, while others will flourish.

Today’s first reading, responsorial psalm and Gospel all use seeds to represent God’s word. He scatters His word all over the earth, on believers

and non-believers, with no prejudgment of who is worthy. How does He do this? Through His prophets, including you and your family, the Bible, and even occurrences in our lives. Our days are full of opportunities to nurture His word, so that it can grow and bear fruit. We can do this through good works, showing love, understanding and forgiveness. We don’t know if our small acts of kindness will take root in someone else’s life and grow, producing fruit. Rather than judging if people are worthy of kindness, we are called to

scatter these acts like seeds just as our heavenly Father does.

This week, perhaps with your family, take a seed, perhaps from a flower, tree or a piece of fruit. Look at it and imagine what it could

become. Talk or reflect on the number

of seeds that are right in your yard or neighborhood. Some will be nourished and grow while others may be eaten or trampled. In the same way, there are many seeds of God’s love in your family, your neighborhood, your church and even in strangers you meet. How can you nourish those seeds? What small actions can grow and produce fruit for God’s kingdom, yielding a hundred, fifty or thirty fold? So let us love with abandon!

May God bless and strengthen your family!

St. James Food PantryMany of our parishioners are using the list on page 4 indicating the needs (both immediate and additional) for pantry items to donate. This list is updated weekly by our Pantry Team and is extremely helpful in keeping our shelves filled.

Computer Paper Boxes STILL NeededEach month our Food Pantry program uses approximately 100 boxes. If you have access to this size box, please consider donating them. We request this size only, due to the ease of handling and storage. Thank You!

The need for donors is great and many current locations are unable to accommodate the space needed during this Coronavirus crisis.

Therefore, St. James Church will once again be opening its doors to host a Community Blood Drive on Friday, July 24th & Friday, August 14th.

Healthy donors are encouraged to book an appointment. Simply go online to www.redcrossblood.org and enter stjcc in the sponsor code. The site will direct you from there or call 800-REDCROSS (800-733-2767). Remember, there must be 56 days between donations.

From Your Parish NurseSelf-care during times of crisis

Self-care is important every day, but it is essential during stressful times. Below are some self-care options. Do one, or as many as you want throughout your day. Make your self-care a priority and make it fun.

• News time limit: Limit the time you spend watching or listening to the news. Allow yourself a certain amount of time each day and then stick to it.

• Hobbies: Pull out your favorite old hobby and start a project, or get a subscription to Netflix.

• Online courses: What have you always wanted to learn? Sign up for an online course.

• Take time for you: Take a bubble bath. Complete your normal grooming routine to feel fresh and more like yourself. Getting dressed daily keeps your energy up. Don’t stay in your sweats or leggings for long periods of time.

• Go for a walk outside: Get into nature and enjoy the sights and sounds.

• Take a lunch break: Step away from your desk or office while eating and actually take a lunch break.

• Eat healthy meals: Include fruits and vegetables with most of your meals. Include something from every color of the rainbow.

• Sleep: Try to get six to eight hours of sleep each night. Be aware that wanting to sleep constantly is a sign of depression. Consult a physician or therapist if you notice this happening.

• Stay hydrated: Drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water daily.

• Exercise: Move your body however it feels good to you, for at least 20 minutes daily.

• Connection: Even with physical distancing, it is important to stay in touch with people you love!

• Call at least one or two daily. Video chat apps such as Facetime, Zoom or Houseparty allow us to see and communicate with friends and family across the country.

• Meditation: Meditate daily for any length of time.

Detailed information will follow in the July 19th bulletin.

Note: Large, sturdy (teen size) backpacks are always in demand! If you see a great deal in the stores, no need to wait to purchase them. You can update SignUpGenius with your purchases when it becomes available.

Thank you!

CYO Fall Volleyball UpdateAt this point, CYO is going forward with plans for the fall sport’s season. If there are any We are still planning for a fall volleyball season. CYO volleyball is for girls going into 4-8th grade. Tryouts should take place in early August. All parish members are welcome and will make a team. We also hope to have open gym time this month once the restriction is lifted. Open gyms give a player some time to learn and develop their skills in a non-competitive environment. Please go to the CYO page on the church website and sign-up for updates as more information is available. See you on the court!!

Please remember in your prayers all who serve in the
