"Closing the Back Door" is imperative for the future of every church. The challenge isn't
unique to Simpsonville Baptist as most churches rarely over-come these weaknesses to achieve true health and growth. Signs of this problem include low guest retention and high member turnover. The relational portion, which is usually the biggest problem for people not staying in a church, stems from unmet needs, unsatisfactory inclusion, no involvement, questionable welcome, and few, if any, friendships. Theological and church reasons for people leaving a church include doctrine, worship, preaching and vision convictions and preferences. Other reasons will include occasional disputes and hurt feelings. The areas that I want to challenge the church to wholeheartedly address are as follows: Hosting of guests: Welcome guests and introduce them to others, helping them to connect with to others through ministry, worship, and fellowship. Guest follow-up: We want people to know we are glad they came to worship or to an event. Member care: Show love and compassion to church family undergoing emotional, spiritual, mental
and physical challenges. Absentee care: When persons fall away from the church family, who will go after them with love and
concern? Evangelistic visits: Will you talk with others about faith in Jesus and how to receive Him? Community outreach: Invite friends, neighbors, co-workers, and relatives to walk with our community
of faith. Churches that don't address the above areas are sure to plateau or die. A church family will only grow to the extent that we take care of others. If a church will take care of people, then the blessings of God will unfold. The church will then reflect the very heart of God for people. The unbeliever and unchurched question the church’s authenticity, faith, and love when these issues are unresolved. I haven't effectively lead the church to address the problem of "closing the back door" in the last five years. I just now have the knowledge and understanding of what needs to happen. I have confidence in the direction that we need to go. Now, I need to lead strong in this direction as never before. One thing I know, we will need everyone to participate in a ministry this large. This ministry of involvement has to be-come a part of the culture of our church worship, ministry and fellowship. What do we need? We will need leaders in each of the above areas in all small groups and ministries . We will need leaders to take care of these ministries during worship, church events, and fel-lowships. Then, of course, we will need people to give of their time and heart making relationships and inviting others to participate in God's family. We will provide training and instructions for the ministries needed. Would you have a desire, giftedness or burden for any of the ministries? Please contact me about how you would be willing to serve. Steve Boyd

I am so excited to be the Minister to Children and their families at Simpsonville Baptist Church. The whole Thompson family (Brad, Shari, Corey, Matthew and Noelle) can’t wait to be there helping Kids and their families in Simpsonville and Shelby county connect to Jesus. Our first Sunday with you will be July 3rd. If you have a facebook page, I hope you will friend me soon so I can begin to recognize you. I continue to pray everyday that God will show me the ways He wants to use you and I to bring others to Him.
Our ministry theme will be “Kid Connection, Connecting Kids to Christ.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9 will be our theme verse: 5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you to-day. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the door-posts of your house and on your gates.
I look forward to serving with you and helping you grow in your connection to Christ. As par-ents and church family, I pray that we will bind together to help raise the children with whom we have contact, in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Please pray for us as God continues to work out all the details of our coming to serve and in the many transitions that have to be made.
In HIS Love, Ms. Shari

ADVENTURE CLUB
Hello, I am Cindy Lowe, the Adventure Club director. I have been the director of the Sum-mer, After School, and Extended Care programs for over a year and recently became the director of the Preschool Program. I am a mom of four wonderful kids, Lyla, Haley, Jessi, and Ryan and wife to my incredible husband J. I love working in the church and providing a service to the community. If you have never thought about how Adventure Club affects the community, let me share. We provide care to more than 125 children in the different programs of Adventure Club . We teach Bible stories and sing songs children may never have heard in their home or in church. During this past school year, the Afterschool program went through almost the entire Bible. Our bible story teach-ers have a wonderful knowledge of the Bible and are able to share it in a way the children can fully understand. We have incredible staff who have worked with kids for years or are in Boyce or the Southern Baptist Seminary. I am very humbled and proud to be a part of these programs at our church.
Our summer program currently has 88 kids enrolled. We have themed weeks with crafts, activities, games, and a guest speaker each week. We are going on 5 field trips during the summer to the pool, movies, and bowling. It has been a great start, and I am looking forward to the rest of the summer! We have begun registration for 3 & 4 year old preschool and will begin registration for the Afterschool program on July 5! If you have any question regarding any of the programs, please feel free to contact me.
The Adventure Club council has agreed to provide $1,000 monthly toward the utilities of the Family Activity Center. In the month of May, Adventure Club provided $5,000 for the months of January through May and will be giving the $1,000 monthly to offset the cost of the utilities that is being used by Adventure Club.

CentriKid Camp Update This year we had 31 children attend CentriKid camp at Georgetown
College!!! There were 20 girls and 11 boys, plus 7 chaperones!!! As usual, the week was loaded with lots of FUN and great bonding time
with a Christ centered focus. The kids participated in track times such as Foot Praise, Splish Splash, Basketball, Cheernastics, and No Boys Allowed, just to name a few. We started off each morning with breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by quiet time (which allowed each of the campers and chaperones time to do their own personal devo-tionals), before the rest of a jam packed day began. And, although "lights out" was scheduled for 10:30 p.m. each
night, I would venture to say that there was not a night that actually happened!!!!
The theme of camp this year was Shipwreck Island: Where God Provides. The kids were lead in Bible Study each day by their group leaders, focusing on Paul's life in the book of Acts. Each day they talked about how God Pro-vides for us. Day 1....God provides Forgiveness. Day 2...God provides Calling. Day 3...God provides Enough. Day 4....God provides Thru Me. Not only was this studied during Bible Study, but recreation and track
times also related back to what they were learning each day.
Although the week at camp was filled with fun, it was also filled with the presence of our Lord! Many of the children began a daily walk with the Lord or dug deeper into their relationship with Him. We praise Him and give Him all the glory for the work He is doing in their lives! In the following weeks, we will be following up with seven
children who gave their professions of faith while at camp!!!!!
Some Interesting and Amazing facts discovered while at camp: Jetta Seirakowski has a beautiful singing voice Luke Wisely needs his own personal secretary and can actually do a
toe touch
Kory Hacker can really dance....really Karly Dugle looks like her brother (Kyler) with her hair pulled back
and acts exactly like her mother did at that age Macey Gowin has to smell her clothes to see which ones are clean
Bailey Sowder didn't scare anyone away Cindy Lowe can't count
Olivia Coffey actually can stay up past 11 p.m. (thanks to Macey) Josh Dugger likes to jump off the diving board.... with his mom's permission Jonah Goldsmith was our hero for finding the "lost wallet" Dana Coffey is not good with directions It was a GREAT week!!!! As we look on towards next year, I would encourage all those children who will be finishing 3rd thru 5th grade and have never been to CentriKid to please consider it.......as well as, all those who have already been. Also, if you've never been as a chaperone.....you don't know what you're missing!!! These
kids are wonderful and worth every bit of the investment of your time!!! There is TRULY nothing like camp!

Eastern Kentucky Matt Garner
This month's newsletter is a bit different because I'm writing to you from the field, both literal and figurative. I'm on the mis-sion trip in eastern Kentucky and am sitting on the back patio of a ministry called Haven of Rest, looking out on a field and then on to mountains in the background. Haven of Rest is a prison min-istry started by a woman named Eileen Mullins. It's across the street from the Big Sandy Federal prison around Inez, KY. Eileen started this ministry after her son shot and killed his wife and was sent to prison. She realized there was no place for visiting families to stay when they came from all around the country and felt God telling her to build this place and minister to these people. This is only one of the many ministries in eastern Kentucky that has God's finger-prints all over it.
We've got a large group from our church working in a 25 mile radius as well as other groups who have joined us. Besides the Haven of Rest, we have painted and restored a church in West Van Lear; we have a group led by Ken Hyde who is painting, doing construction, and building a deck for a dynamic church plant in Paintsville called Mountain Community Fellowship; there's another group serving at a ministry called ARO (Appalachian Reach Out) working with a huge food and clothes closet and doing a local VBS. We are getting ready for a revival service to-night in Inez and preparing for a Touched Twice clinic on Saturday where people will receive free medical/dental/vision care as well as spiritual counseling. Posters are up all over the towns and there is excitement in the air!
We have had nightly worship services and last night got to baptize (in a swimming pool) a young woman who had dedicated her life to Christ! We also heard testimonies of others giving their lives to Christ! It was amazing and humbling.
I am sure you will hear more about the trip, but for now, just know that God is at work in these hills and your prayers and support are needed.
After some date wrangling, we have set October 10-20 as our new tentative dates for the Japan mission trip. if you are interested in going with us and sharing the gospel in a foreign land, contact me at [email protected]. There's no telling how God will use us!

PROPERTIES TEAM
June has continued to be a busy month
for the property team as they have continued to oversee and organize
special projects. The baptistry in the Chapel has been sanded and received a fresh coat of
paint. The Chapel’s final Sunday School room is on schedule to be completed by July
1. With a new student minister being called to our church, our Student ministry area
(below chapel) has received a carpet shampoo and closets and classrooms have been
cleaned out. The property team consists of Scott Sagesar, Lisa Davis, Jerry Gordon,
Larry Curry, Al Poulter, Gary Stewart, and Denise Miller (staff representative).
Crafts For Christ was originally formed from a home
group that studied the book Missional Renaissance. Marilyn
Rhoads and Susan Fenton came up with the idea to make
crafts to sell and use the money for missions. We started to
meet in April and had our first craft show at the Fish Fry on
June 3rd. God was good… we made $537. All profits go
towards our missions ministries.
Our next craft show will be this coming Fall and we also hope to have a booth at the
Simpsonville Fall Festival. Please keep a look out for the dates in upcoming publication.
We would love for you to join us! We meet each Monday in the Fellowship Hall from
10am-2pm. ( Please bring your lunch!) Both men and women are welcome and no experience
is necessary. We have something for everyone to do.
If you have homemade craft items you would like to donate, please call Amy Griggs at
722-8582 and we can make arrangements to pick them up.
I would like to thank Susan Fenton, Marilyn Rhoads, Betty Woodrum and Shirley Ragan
for their hard work and dedication. Our first craft show was a huge success due to their
dedication and God’s faithfulness.
“ God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

NEW MINISTRY
We can utilize many of the odd things you have gathering dust in your garage or home. Material, foam shapes, bells, paint, paintbrushes, batting, thread, thread spools, jewelry beads, wire, old crosses, odd pieces of wood, etc. can all be used to create something fun. A trip through your “odds & ends drawer” could give that special touch to the right project!
