I am diabetic for the past ten years. In the recent past, I am having severe itching over legs. What should I do about it?

This question is particularly relevant in the winter season. Many diabetic patients experience itching in winter, particularly in the legs due to the dryness of skin. Diabetes patients experience increased itching due to three reasons. 1. Due to diabetes, there will be a reduction of secretion from skin glands. 2. So diabetes patients are prone for skin dryness which may cause itching and cracked heels. Through cracks bacteria may enter and may cause diabetic foot infections. Sometime severe cellulites can be triggered by simple itching. To avoid itching, wash your foot regularly and apply oil or cream to keep the skin moisturesed. Simple coconut oil or liquid paraffin or moisturizing creams can be applied to avoid dryness and itching. Daily examine your legs and foot for any colour change or any breach in skin to avoid foot infections.
