Introduction

Oral history is the recording of people’s memories, experiences and opinions. These recordings often provide not only a valuable insight into important events and everyday life, but also new perspectives that challenge our view of the past.

Barking and Dagenham Archive and Local Studies Centre has been collecting oral histories since 2003. This guide provides a list of these recordings organised by subject, together with further oral histories relating to projects undertaken in association with Eastside Community Heritage, as well as details of related printed books within the Local Studies Collection.

Becontree Estate
