Nowadays, we largely usefossil fuels like coal, oiletc., to produce energywhere we have finite supply torun out. But in the case ofrenewable energy, it is not so.Using fossil fuels is verydangerous to all living beingssince it releases carbon-dioxidein the environment causingpollution and other adverseimpacts like global warming withdisastrous consequences.Whereas increased use ofrenewable energy can reducepollution and the public healthis not affected. It makes the lifeto live in harmony with thenature.

Todays technology makesthe people to generate their ownenergy by cutting off the grids. This small production is calledmicro generation and refers tosystems under 50 kw, a typicalheater requires 1 kw forgenerating electricity or 45 kw inthe case of heat. The renewableenergy can be produced by solarenergy, wind energy or biomassenergy. The large scaleproduction may generate moreemployment and wide economicopportunities. At present, thepower sector is not able to matchthe demand and supply in viewof the countrys vastdevelopments. The future maybecome a tussle and bleak in viewof lesser power generation. Butthis can be offset producingalternate energy from smallhydro projects, bio mass gas, biomass power, urban industrialwaste power, wind energy, fuelcells, tidal power etc. The tidalpower is harvested from oceans.According to research estimates,if one thousandth of the energyavailable in the ocean ifconverted into electricity, it couldeasily meet the world demandfor more than 5 times.Strategically placed tidal

Renewal Energy, the answer for clean energy

generates capturing waves in theocean and convert the energy ofthe flow into electricity. Greaterthe velocity of waves and heightof tides, there is more generationof power.

There are 3 types of tidalwaves like wave energy, tidalenergy and ocean thermal energy. In the wave energy, use of tidalwaves cause a turbine to rotatewhich generates electricity insmall capacity which can be usedin power warning buoys or lighthouses. Tidal energy is producedfrom high tidal waves exceeding5 metres which are trapped in areservoir and water let out torotate the turbines like inhydroelectric plants. Oceanthermal energy with the differenttemperatures between the surfaceand deeper water when it exceeds38 degree Fahrenheit is suffice togenerate electricity. Bio mass issimply organic matter that can beused to generate heat or the rawmaterial for producing anotherform of biofuel likeethnol orbiogas. Energy from biomass iscalled as bioenergy. It can be usedfor generating electricity to runvehicles or for cooking. It is oftenplant origin like wood chips, rotted trees, sewage, manure andanimal waste etc.

First generation biofuelcomes from food products sugar

in sugarcane or corn is fermentedand converted into bio-ethnol oralcohol based fuel. Algae asbiomass are very popularnowadays. It can be easilyproduced in any part of the world. It greatly reduces ourdependence on fossil fuels. Eventhough there are drawbacks inusing food products which areexpensive, the biomass energyoffers a reservoir of opportunitiesto people, government andentrepreneurs. Fuel cell is adevice that converts chemicalenergy from a fuel into electricityin the presence of oxygen.Hydrogen is the most commonfuel. Their level of environmentfriendliness depends on thenature of fuel used. In additionto their use in cars and othervehicles including submarinesand aircraft, they can be used asback up energy sourced forcommercial buildings. There aremany types of fuel cells whichconsist of anode and negativecathode immersed in electrolytethat allows the flow of charge. The most common is the ProtonExchange Membrane or DirectMethane etc. They come indifferent sizes from portable tohuge stationery stacks accordingto their usages. The mostsignificant challenge in using fuelcells is the lack of availability ofinfrastructures to generate, storeand distribute the fuel. High costof platinum catalyst is s limitingfactor. Despite these hiccups, there is a huge market for fuel cellsglobally. Hence to save the wrathof pollution, renewable energy isthe safe method and the onlysolution for safeguarding theearth from the evil effects of globalwarming.
