2.0 COATINGS SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 BUILDING EXTERIOR 2.1.1 CMU / EIFS / METAL Textured FASCIA PVC Accent Bands on Marquee Surface Preparation: Remove all loose mortar by rubbing surface with masonry block or scrape with 6” to 8” floor scraper to remove any mortar fins or protrusions. Remove all loose foreign matter with a stiff broom and coat before contamination occurs. CMU refers to Split face and fluted block. Primer: Jones-Blair #3781 Acrylic Latex Block Filler, @ 10.0-18.0 mils dft/to fill completely.

holes with Bondo metal filler. Sand holes level with deck surface. clean area and lightly sand before priming.

Surface Prep: Power wash , clean with Bleach or as recommended by paint Manufacturer. Remove all rust, sands, runs, oils, grease, chalk or other contaminants by SSPC-SP1, SSPC-SP2, or SSPC-SP3 respectively Repairs: Patch existing holes in deck. Valero/Shamrock 2 CAR WASH PAINTING SPECIFICATIONS 1. GENERAL This specification supersedes any previously written or implied specification for
painting any existing or new car wash structures for maximum performance at on-site locations. (Includes California)
1.1 Scope This specification covers Valero’s requirements for the painting of piping,
equipment and typical interior car wash structures. 1.2 Workmanship All work required by this specification shall be performed in accordance with
the recommendations of the manufacturer, Jones-Blair Company, Dallas, Texas or its' distributors. The use of coatings other than those specified herein requires Valero Construction Management approval.
2. GENERAL PREPARATION 2.1 Before applying any coating, all contamination, loose paint, rust, mill scale,
soaps, oil, grease, dirt, dust and chemicals are to be removed from interior paintable surfaces by chemical wet blasting, hydroblast cleaning or power tools. Abrasive blast cleaning may be necessary on heavily rusted areas, but may be prohibitive in some areas. Allow to dry completely.
2.2 Existing coatings such as epoxy or urethane shall be roughened prior to
coating, when necessary, for proper intercoat adhesion by brush-off blast cleaning or power sanding.
3. SURFACE PREPARATION FOR RECOATING

3.1 Metal Surfaces Only loose, cracked, brittle, or non-adherent coating shall be removed
unless otherwise specified. Cleaning shall be performed two Inches beyond the damaged area in all directions or until tightly adhered coating is obtained. Rust spots shall be thoroughly cleaned. Prime immediately after cleaning and surfaces is completely dry.
3.2 The contractor shall have the option to remove all old coating from area
where the amount of damaged or loose coating is excessive. 3.3 Do not prime or coat the following surfaces unless they have been
previously painted: (a) Non-ferrous metal surfaces such as aluminum, copper, brass, or
Monel; (b) Stainless steel; (c) Glass, tile or ceramic; (d) Machined or finished operating parts of machinery, valves or rubber
hoses. 3.4 Primer Prime all bare ferrous metal with Jones-Blair #33010 White Epoxy Urethane
Primer. (In CA. use #33010-CA) Catalyze 3:1 ratio with #99951 catalyst. Apply primer a minimum of 2 mils DFT. Allow primer to dry a minimum of 8 hours before recoating at 70°-80° F and 50% RH. Primer may be reduced up to 15% with Jones-Blair #21092. Do not thin for brush or roller application.
4.0 PREVIOUSLY PAINTED SURFACES OF BLOCK, CONCRETE, ROUGH-
TEXTURED BRICK, ETC. 4.1. Clean as in Section 2 and roughen existing gloss coatings such as
urethanes or epoxy. If fillers are removed by cleaning the surface, fill again with Jones-Blair #3781 Acrylic Latex Block Filler. Block filler may be applied by roller but for maximum filling, work filler into crevices with a brush. Allow surfaces to thoroughly dry before top-coating.
5.0 NEW SURFACES AS IN 4.0

5.1 Clean surfaces free of oil, grease, wax and other foreign matter. Fill all porous surfaces with Jones-Blair #3781 Acrylic Latex Block Filler. For best results brushing should follow spray or roller application while the filler is still wet. A gallon of block filler will typically cover 50 - 150 square feet depending on the surface. Allow block filler to dry 24 - 48 hours before applying finish coats.
6.0 NEW GLAZED BRICK/PORCELAIN 6.1 Clean free of all foreign matter and prime with Jones-Blair #33010 or
#33010-CA Epoxy Urethane Primer as in 3.4 7.0 FINISH COATS 7.1 Urethane Two-Package System 7.2 Jones-Blair Gloss Acrylithane C-HS #4400-000 White Aliphatic Urethane shall be
applied as the topcoats at a minimum of 2 mils DFT. (In CA. use #4600-011 White. Two coats are required for either coating. These coatings shall be applied to all primed and roughened surfaces. Acrylithane C-HS catalyzes 7:1 ratio with #99979 catalyst. #4600-011 catalyzes 3:1 ratio with 99951 Catalyst. These coatings are very suitable for this application because of the varied types of environments ranging from severely corrosive environments to mild atmospheric conditions. Aliphatic Urethane also has excellent recoatability.
7.3 Mixing and application techniques Jones-Blair Acrylithane C-HS is a two component system and must be
mixed. A 7:1 mixing ratio is required. Mix one (7/8) gallon of Acrylithane base material with one (1) pint of #99979 catalyst. (In CA. use #4600-011 mixed with #99951 Catalyst) Up to one-half (1/2) pint of #21092 thinner may be added, per gallon, of mixed paint for spray application. For brush and roller application thinning is not normally required. Apply Acrylithane only to thoroughly dry surfaces. When applying at temperatures exceeding 80° F, addition of as much as three fluid ounces (1/5 of pint) of #21093 drying retardant per gallon of Acrylithane C-HS or Acrylithane HS-4 (CA.) is recommended. This prevents dry spray and undesired fast drying on the surface being covered as well as on brushes and rollers. For application in temperatures below 45°F, it is recommended that 1/4 ounce of #99011 be added per catalyzed gallon of Acrylithane C-HS or HS-3. Either Acrylithane product or #33010 (#33010-CA in California) Ureprime White Primer may be recoated after one hour at 70°F and 50% RH.
