The ancient Norse legend told how half the Soldiers

who died in battle wentto Valhalla, where they

became comradesagain… forever

Page 5: Valhalla nov2011
Page 6: Valhalla nov2011

The Soldiers of Valhallaworked during the day

and tended their woundsat night. They tookcare of each other.

Page 7: Valhalla nov2011
Page 8: Valhalla nov2011

They also feasted each night

in the Great Hall of Odin

Page 9: Valhalla nov2011

Many of today’s Soldiersare feeling the stress from

multiple deployments and hardships.

Page 10: Valhalla nov2011
Page 11: Valhalla nov2011

They’re tired,often worn out.

Page 12: Valhalla nov2011
Page 13: Valhalla nov2011
Page 14: Valhalla nov2011
Page 15: Valhalla nov2011
Page 16: Valhalla nov2011

So are some of thecivilian workers who also

live and work in thewar zones alongside

Soldiers.

Page 17: Valhalla nov2011
Page 18: Valhalla nov2011
Page 19: Valhalla nov2011
Page 20: Valhalla nov2011

Their work and the overall working

conditions are difficulteven on the best days.

Page 21: Valhalla nov2011
Page 22: Valhalla nov2011
Page 23: Valhalla nov2011
Page 24: Valhalla nov2011

Typical accommodationsare pretty depressing

at best.

Page 25: Valhalla nov2011
Page 26: Valhalla nov2011
Page 27: Valhalla nov2011
Page 28: Valhalla nov2011

And don’t even mention the food, which is

still better than MREs.

Page 29: Valhalla nov2011
Page 30: Valhalla nov2011

They should have aplace like Valhalla to

decompress, readjust afterreturning from combat,

learn new skills, andjust have fun!

Page 31: Valhalla nov2011

We found what will be Valhalla

on 200 acres in the Ozark mountains

Page 32: Valhalla nov2011

Hunting, fishing, andthe chance to set up

and work on a farm, andlearn to build cabinsand cottages from

scratch.

Page 33: Valhalla nov2011

So who are weand why do we wantto create Valhalla?

Page 34: Valhalla nov2011

The Valhalla Projectis a nonprofit organization

dedicated to assistingpost-9/11 combat Soldiers

and warzone civilianworkers

The Board serveswithout drawing salaries,

benefits, or othercompensation.

Page 42: Valhalla nov2011

Why are we doing this?

Because we’ve all beendown range and know

the realities andchallenges personally.

Page 43: Valhalla nov2011

Valhalla has a large house for ten people.

Someday Valhalla will host up to 50 at a time.

Page 44: Valhalla nov2011
Page 45: Valhalla nov2011

Soldiers and selectedcivilians will be able to visit for a weekend or

stay for up to 3 monthsat a time. What willthey do at Valhalla?

Page 46: Valhalla nov2011
Page 47: Valhalla nov2011

We saw what some Soldiersbuilt from scratch usingscavenged materials for

their FOB (ForwardOperating Base) in

Afghanistan

Page 48: Valhalla nov2011
Page 49: Valhalla nov2011
Page 50: Valhalla nov2011
Page 51: Valhalla nov2011
Page 52: Valhalla nov2011

Those at Valhalla will bebuilding energy efficient

off-the-grid cabins…

for themselves, and alsofor future generations of

Soldiers and combat zonecivilian workers

Page 60: Valhalla nov2011

Page 61: Valhalla nov2011

Why will building cabinsbe so important?

BecauseSoldiers can’t go back toFOBs that meant a lot to

them, but they will be able

to come back to Valhalla each year if they want to.

Page 62: Valhalla nov2011

The soil at Valhalla is very rich in clay

Page 63: Valhalla nov2011

Clay like this is perfect for cob building

Page 64: Valhalla nov2011

Clay is also great for straw bale plasters

Page 65: Valhalla nov2011

Building cabins will give

a sense of accomplishment

and confidence in thecivilian world, and

teachskills so individuals

canbuild their own

affordable homes if they want to.

Page 66: Valhalla nov2011

So what else willthe Soldiers and war zone civilian workers

do at Valhalla?

Page 67: Valhalla nov2011

Soldiers and US civilians in Afghanistan have been teaching villagers how to

farm. Some units also keeptheir own chickens and

goats for food.

Page 68: Valhalla nov2011
Page 69: Valhalla nov2011
Page 70: Valhalla nov2011

Good food starts withhealthy, happy animals

so Valhalla will havechickens, sheep, goats, rabbits, a few cattle and other livestock to care for.

Page 71: Valhalla nov2011

Chickens for eggs and pest control

Page 72: Valhalla nov2011

Goats for milk, meat, and weed

control

Page 73: Valhalla nov2011

Donkeys for guarding thesmaller farm animals

Page 74: Valhalla nov2011

Cattle for milk and meat

Page 75: Valhalla nov2011

Hay is already being grown in Valhalla’s pastures

Page 76: Valhalla nov2011

Page 77: Valhalla nov2011

Raised bed vegetableand herb gardens as well

as orchards and berrypatches will grow theadditional fruits and other foods needed

Page 81: Valhalla nov2011

The 200-acre Valhalla property has an incrediblearray of forests, pastures,

and features that offerendless possibilities.

Page 86: Valhalla nov2011

Countless places to camp

Page 87: Valhalla nov2011

Deer are everywhere

Page 88: Valhalla nov2011

Page 89: Valhalla nov2011

That’s really great dirt for the garden

Page 90: Valhalla nov2011

Page 91: Valhalla nov2011

Get out of there, now!

Page 92: Valhalla nov2011

We’ve found wild turkey eggs

Page 93: Valhalla nov2011

The old abandoned farmhouse

Page 94: Valhalla nov2011

200 acres is a lot of area!

Page 95: Valhalla nov2011

So what are wedoing today to makeValhalla a reality by

Spring of 2012?

Page 96: Valhalla nov2011

We’ve acquired the property and are now preparing the existing

house for the first “Valhallans.”

Page 97: Valhalla nov2011

The sunken living room floor

was a safety hazard so it has

been raised.

Page 98: Valhalla nov2011

Narrowdoorways

havebeen widened

to allow forwheelchairaccess...

Page 99: Valhalla nov2011

A cramped bathroom has beenconverted into an open wet

room forthose with mobility challenges

Page 100: Valhalla nov2011
Page 101: Valhalla nov2011

Valhalla needed an office, so space

from the oversized master bedroom

has been converted into an office

Page 102: Valhalla nov2011
Page 103: Valhalla nov2011
Page 104: Valhalla nov2011
Page 105: Valhalla nov2011
Page 106: Valhalla nov2011

Many beds have been acquired so up to ten people at a time will have places to sleep by

next spring

Page 107: Valhalla nov2011
Page 108: Valhalla nov2011
Page 109: Valhalla nov2011
Page 110: Valhalla nov2011

Other basic furniture is also being

acquired within a very limited budget

Page 111: Valhalla nov2011
Page 112: Valhalla nov2011

Other essential furniture is stillbeing acquired with frugality

in mind at all times.

Page 113: Valhalla nov2011
Page 114: Valhalla nov2011

EnergyStar super-

efficient appliances

must be purchased

new, but theywill help Valhallasave energy andresources in the

long term.

Page 115: Valhalla nov2011
Page 116: Valhalla nov2011

The first initialenvironmental initiativeshave also been launched

on the Valhalla property toprepare for not only people,

but also the animals we will all depend on.

Page 117: Valhalla nov2011

Tons of lime have been applied to

the neglected pastures to help build

productivity without chemicals.

Page 118: Valhalla nov2011

Abandoned vehicles that have been leaching toxins into the

soil have been systematically removed.

Page 119: Valhalla nov2011

Health and safety hazards of all kinds that posed a threat to

animals and people are being hauled away.

Page 120: Valhalla nov2011

One small pond was choking onlivestock manure, cattails and

leaves

Page 121: Valhalla nov2011

It’s been enlarged and completely rebuilt to ensure

that both livestockand wildlife will have pure

water

Page 122: Valhalla nov2011

A deer feeder had been set up; wildlife food plots will be

planted in the spring

Page 123: Valhalla nov2011

And we are working on

building positive working

relationships – and awareness – of the

Valhalla Project within

local neighborhoods.

Page 124: Valhalla nov2011
Page 125: Valhalla nov2011
Page 126: Valhalla nov2011
Page 127: Valhalla nov2011

Response has beenwonderful so far.

Civilians wanting to honor Soldiers are

investing their spare time and equipment

tohelp Valhalla

happen.

Page 128: Valhalla nov2011
Page 129: Valhalla nov2011
Page 130: Valhalla nov2011

It is our intent to serve as a prototype

thatcan be copied all

over the USA to help ordinary people assist those who

have given everything inthe defense of

freedom.

Page 131: Valhalla nov2011

V is for Valhalla (satellite view)

Page 132: Valhalla nov2011

Military support.Mental health.Environmentalsustainability.

These are our objectives.

Page 133: Valhalla nov2011

But about $400,000into it by ourselves,

nowwe need help too.

Page 134: Valhalla nov2011

How can you help?

By getting the word out.

the Valhalla Project.

“Warrior Police” authors Gordon and Chris Fontana Cucullu are the

foundersof the Valhalla Project, and they

liveat Valhalla as managers to make

sure the vision is carried out as

intended.

Page 137: Valhalla nov2011
