General Rules & Regulations for Exhibitors

1. Any resident of North Dakota may be an exhibitor, but no person shall be permitted to enter more than one exhibit of the same variety in any one lot.

2. All exhibits must have been grown in the State of North Dakota in 2016, except as specified by 4-H and FFA rules.

3. Entries will not be accepted after 10 AM, March 3, and judging of all classes will begin at 1 p.m. on that date.

4. Exhibitors must state on the entry blank the class, lot number and the kind and variety under which the entry is to be judged. The officials in charge of exhibits, or the judges, reserve the right to make any corrections in class or lot numbers in case of errors.

5. The Crops Show management will not be responsible for loss, damage, or mixture of any entry, but will exercise reasonable precaution at all times.

6. All samples must be properly labeled inside. Entry blanks should accompany all samples and must be signed. Include Variety name.

7. All samples and sheaves become property of the North Dakota Winter Show, they cannot be removed without permission and will not be returned.

8. The following minimum quantities will be required for all entries in the open class, 4-H and FFA Divisions.

Two quarts ~ Wheat, durum, oats, barley, sunflower, rye, peas, lentils, beans and shelled corn.

Hybrid seed, commercially prepared seed, treated seed, unclean or bin run seed, will be disqualified. Prizes will not be awarded to unworthy samples.

11. All exhibit entries will be judged by the group placing system. The best blue ribbon entries from the three divisions in each lot will compete for Championship Division premium money and awards. The 2017 North Dakota State Crop Show is dedicated to Bruce Bachmeier of Carrington, ND. Bruce has been involved with the North Dakota Winter Show and State Crop Show for most of his life. As a youth, he exhibited numerous samples, earning many overall champions and awarded the Rutledge Kane award as top exhibitor in three different years. Bruce is a member of the State Crop Show Committee and has worked with many aspects of the show, especially encouraging youth to get involved with exhibits.

Bruce has helped provide grain for FFA and 4-H members to clean and prepare grain samples and taught local youth in FFA and 4-H the process of cleaning samples in preparation for exhibit. He has delivered samples from the Carrington drop point to the Winter Show. Bruce is a major organizer and has judged exhibits at the Carrington FFA Alumni crop show, providing exhibitors an opportunity to re-check their samples before entering in the State Crop Show.

Bruce has provided resources and helped with the North Dakota State 4-H crops judging contest and the North Dakota State FFA contest. He has also coached many teams that have participated in those contests. In addition, Bruce has judged 4-H crop exhibits at the North Dakota State Fair.

Bruce was born in Carrington and grew up on a family farm in rural Carrington area raising small grains, row crops, beef and dairy cattle. He graduated from Carrington in 1988 and Bismarck State College in 1990 with a degree in agriculture sales and service. He has been employed at Wholesale Ag Products in Carrington for 27 years.

Bruce has received the Honorary American FFA degree, ND Honorary State FFA degree, and ND FFA Distinguished Service Award. Bruce and his wife Lynelle were the 2016 Foster County NDSU Harvest Bowl honorees. He is a past president of the ND FFA Foundation Board. Bruce is currently serving as the chairman of the NDSU Carrington Research Center Advisory Council Board, president of the Carrington Ag Ed Advisory Council and is a Member of the Carrington Board of Education

Bruce and Lynelle have two daughters, Caycee and Breanna. Both of whom have developed the passion for cleaning grain as well and have been outstanding exhibitors in the State Crop Show, earning several Rutledge Kane Awards.

In his spare time, Bruce enjoys the outdoors, summer lake time, hunting, and fishing.

Join us as we honor Bruce, on Friday, March 10th, at 6:45 pm, prior to the start of the PRCA Rodeo Performance at the NDWS Event Center. For more information, contact the NDWS office, at 701-845-1401, or 1-800-437-0218.

' North Dakota is known worldwide as a source for quality wheat. This reputation was developed from a commitment of producers and researchers to focus on key functional traits demanded by customers in our wheat varieties. Generic wheat can be grown almost anywhere, and often much closer to the customer than the wheat fi elds of North Dakota. It is a distinction in quality that drives demand for our wheat, often at premium prices.

International and domestic customers demand clean, uniform, high protein wheat with the built-in genetic traits to provide strong gluten and high water absorption for bread and baked products, and strong gluten and bright yellow color for couscous and premium pasta products.

Weather and management practices have a big infl uence on our annual wheat quality, but genetics also have an impact. North Dakota grown wheat can best meet our customer's quality demands through good management practices and planting varieties that have the genetics for quality, as well as agronomic and yield traits.

Competition for customers in the world wheat market is extremely intense, and any advantage makes a diff erence. Prioritizing quality in variety selection will ensure North Dakota remains the fi rst choice for customers at the top-end of the quality spectrum in the world wheat market.
